The Strangest Dream (part 9)

overtaking the candle out of Autumn's hand, dismissing her concerns, "Tut tut have you and your husband been fighting?" "Well yes, a little, but I don't know how this has anything to do with"... The old lady interrupted, "You thought you saw those things, she wanted you to see those things so you would come together as a family again."

Her mother just stood there speechless, dropping her hands to her side, nothing she was saying meant any sense. Kezia handed Autumn the Saint Michaels pendants and said: "Put these on, they will protect you... as if you need protecting."

"But what about my bad dreams? They seem so real," Evelyn asked her.

Kezia bent down to her eye level "Listen, try to write something in your dream, so you know it's a dream. You write something, you see it, you know it's a dream" Then she straightened up, swinging the scarf around her neck. "Pinching yourself works too, it will help you to wake up," and that was that she left. "Mama, you believe me don't you?" "Yes, my darling, I believe you."

That night wearing the pendant, the old lady gave her, and she was tucked in with a kiss from both of her parents, and she fell fast asleep.

She woke up and looked around the room, but she wasn't in her bed, she was in the attic, she knew this by seeing the half-crescent moon window. "HOLLY," she screamed out, "What are you doing here? Did that mean ol girl put you up here? You must be starving like me!" Evelyn crept downstairs and into the kitchen. After looking around, she saw that she was again alone.

A sigh of relief.

Evelyn opened the refrigerator and took out the jam to make her and her doll a sandwich

She never made herself anything but cereal before, so she made quite the mess.

Nothing is happening in this dream, she thought, but then she remembered what that old lady said. Write something down so you know it's a dream, so Evelyn ran in her room and got a red crayon and on the side of her nightstand where only she could see she wrote her first name, Evie.

What if I woke up in the closet she thought so she wrote it there too, in fact, she wrote it in every room just in case.

The day went by so fast, and she found herself downstairs stacking the cards wishing her daddy was there to play with her, thank goodness the next thing she heard was her daddy's truck. She ran to the door and waiting with excitement for him to come in and sweep her off her feet, but when the door opened, it was a tall man with a long mustache.

He gasped at the sight of this little girl in front of him, and Evelyn stood there surprised then she ran up the stairs to her room and hid in the closet "Only a dream, it's only a dream, wake up wake up wake up!" pinching herself on the leg she wasn't that lucky.

She heard the man talking to someone and walking from room to room, yelling out something about being evil, and she just knew he was looking for her.

Hearing his footsteps get closer to her room, she woke up in her bed.

"Mama" "Yes, my darling?" "There was a man in my dream!" Evelyn's mother sat there intently listening to her tell the entire dream and how the man was yelling evil.

"Well, thank heavens, it was only a dream, Evie," Autumn told her. "Why don't we change things up and have a picnic outside!" Evelyn got up and went into the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth
