The Strangest Dream (part 25)

turned red, and his voice cracked as tears streamed down his face. "They are not crazy mom, I've seen things too!" Clyde went on to explain that there are moments he feels like he is being watched, things are being moved, and on numerous occasions, he found scratches on his body and a burning in his chest. "There's a feeling of dread in that house, and for some reason, after I get home from work, I can't remember anything I have done throughout the day, almost like I'm living in some kind of loop!"

Marie then shared her experience in the hall, and he looked terrified. "Mom, I built that house with my own two hands, I don't understand. What about when the baby comes?"

They both agreed that it would be best for them to come back home and live with her and Dunken for a while until they figured this all out. "I'm sure your dad would love the help," she told him. Clyde drove her the rest of the way home and promised they would come back and stay after he cleared things with his job in two weeks.

The house felt so empty without her there, but Autumn was relieved to know they would be leaving soon, and it seemed to have brought them closer together, knowing she was not in this alone. Clyde started helping more around the house after work, and Evelyn learned how to make eggs with only a little mess.

One day Autumn was nesting, so she asked Clyde to get all Evelyn's old baby stuff from upstairs so she could wash everything. Clyde happily went up to get them, but while he was up there he saw something strange, a section of the floor was splintered "How did that happen" he thought to himself "AUTUMN!" he yelled down. Autumn came to the bottom of the steps but refused to come up and see what he was talking about.

He came downstairs holding the bassinet, he described what he saw up there asking her what she knew about it, her face went pale, and she had to sit down. She tried to block that nightmare from her mind, but now it seems to be walking into her reality, but she had no answers for Clyde, she just looked at him and shrugged her shoulders and went downstairs to do the wash.

Evelyn was all snuggled up in bed, Autumn came in to kiss her goodnight, but she didn't seem altogether well. "Mama? Are you feeling okay?" Evelyn saw her mother's handshake as she wiped the hair from Evelyn's face. "I'm fine baby girl, you have sweet dreams." Then she shut off her light and left the room.

Evelyn did just that. She dreamed she was in the forest standing under a big hollow tree, and she had pretty fluttery wings. A fairy came up and introduced himself, his name was Fetch. Taking her hand, he showed her all-around to meet his friends. She laughed and played with all the woodland creatures, everything looked so magical.

The night was lit up by fireflies, and little baby fairies were nestled in moss, and she heard beautiful voices and faint bells ringing all around them. Evelyn was so full of wonder dancing on flower petals and trying out her new wings. Her new friend Fetch then led her downward through some hollow roots inside the tree, followed by two sprites that she met along the way. Still holding her hand, he turned flying backward, not even looking behind him, examining her face.

He glanced at two sprites flying next to her and gave them a half-grin then turned back around. Faster and faster, he flew. Poor Evelyn's wings couldn't keep up, and she felt a burning on her back as her wings started to tear away. The two sprites grabbed both her arms so she wouldn't fall, and they continued to fly very fast dodging left to right and then left again. She cried out, "Fetch, you're scaring me!" and he responded with a chuckle saying: "Good!" They came into an open space and slowed down. It was dark and very damp, and Evelyn had a bad feeling. Fetch then flew ahead, descending to the ground and walked over to a throne of roots in front of her and sat. She fought her arms free, dropping down. "Why have you brought me here?" she asked him. "Why ARE you here, my dear?"
