Chapter 31

Zhang Wei nodded and signalled Secretary Bai, who immediately understood and left the office. Now that the two of them were alone. The elder Zhang looked at his son and couldn't help but feel proud. A man of his character was hard to come by in the industry. One willing to start from the scratch. Most would love to love their parents' efforts be handed to them and claim it as theirs, but he chose to start from the ground up.

He felt relieved and was grateful that his son didn't take his strict ways of teaching as hate or neglection. Their Zhang family needed someone strong to lead it and someone who didn't have a strong mentality would only crush the family.

Their family was an ancient one. It had been around for a long time. Their ancestors were initially common folk, but they became independent once they started to help the common folk. Eventually, their family rose to fame and their name was spread far and wide. It continued to grow to what they were today.

Zhang Wei noticed his father's stare. He misunderstood his stare as scrutinizing him. He then remembered the dinner last night and his actions. He seemed to be quite embarrassed about it and cleared his throat.

"About last night, I apologize for my behavior. I could have postponed what I wanted to do but instead walked out on you. For that, I am sorry."

His father was surprised, then laughed. His son could really amuse someone sometimes. He waved his hand. "What you do with your personal life doesn't concern me. I believe that you know the correct decisions to make."

Zhang Wei nodded.

Zhang Yimin couldn't help but ask "Though, when do you plan to date? You really don't have anyone in mind? We welcome anyone with an honest heart into our home."

It was true. As explained earlier, they were common folk before, so they were not picky about wives and girlfriends. It didn't matter where she came from as long as she had an honest heart. One may come from a good background but have a terrible conscience. They don't need any chaos in their family.

"You aren't getting any younger. I am not telling you to retire because you don't have to tell me to know that you want to work for as long as you can. I was similar myself. Your mother was the one to not talk to me till I retired, and you know I cannot say no to her. Sometimes, it's good to have someone welcome you home."

Zhang Wei thought about it. His father was right. He would want to continue working for as long as he could. Deep down, he envied his parents. He was almost in his late twenties. He had enough money to last him and his future children a lifetime. He just hadn't found the right person yet, but it was certainly not from the Ye family.

He looked at his father. "Then let me ask you this. Do you think the Ye family's daughter is a good match?"

His father didn't know how to answer him. He knew what he was saying. Not all marriages in their family were out of love, some were contractual. His son seemed to be saying that if he never found anyone he liked, should he go for the Ye family?

He knew the Ye family wasn't entirely clean. While they did have legal businesses, he had done enough business in the past to know the Ye family quite well.

He shrugged his shoulders. Whatever his son did, he would watch form the sidelines and step in when it became too much.

"Alright, enough of that. Let's discuss the future. I'm not one for gossip like your mother."

Zhang Wei nodded and brought out more documents. The father-son duo spent their afternoon discussing more serious matters.

Meanwhile, Xiu Ying texted Li Na since she hadn't see her all day. She needed to clear the air, and fix things between them. She wanted them to stop walking on eggshells around each other.

Xiu Ying: [NaNa, let's meet up later. We need to clear things up. Should we meet at the coffee shop near the school afterwards?]

She waited for a while but didn't receive any answer. She silenced her phone and entered the classroom. She then heard a vibration from her phone.

NaNa: [Ok, see you then.]

She smiled. Yes, they were going to talk about this.

Li Na who had just responded to Xiu Ying's message was at the said coffee shop at that exact moment. She had a latte in front of her and she faced a man with a frown on her face. She was just about to tell the man off when she received a text from Xiu Ying to meet up. She hesitated at first because she still didn't know what to say to her about the whole 'I'm hiding something from you situation.'

She put her phone down and once again faced the man who was calmly sipping his coffee. She really wondered how smart he was sometimes then remembered at least he was smart enough to enter the university, or maybe he really wasn't.

"Yifeng, what the hell? How am I supposed to face Xiu Ying now that she may be onto me?"

The man sipping his coffee, Lu Yifeng, looked up and smiled innocently. "How am I supposed to know? It's between you and her. My job here is to try to hook you up with Zhang Wei. Don't drag me into this."

He went back to drinking form his cup. Li Na bit her lips and sighed.

"Okay, any new information about him?"

She looked so eager that he almost spat out his drink. He managed to keep his composure. She was acting like she was his wife wanting to find out more about her husband.

"Nothing much is happening. Just focus on me and Xiu Ying for now."

Li NA scowled. What the hell did he mean?

Yifeng saw that face and smiled slyly. "What, you won't? You know I have done more than you. I could back out of this deal now and lose nothing. I could still get close to her because I am not chasing an influential family's child."
