Sixty One

The Saturday Sarahiah stayed home while Caleb went to the store and when he returned home, he saw that she had done a general cleaning in the house, and everything was sparkling.

Caleb entered the room only to see that she had set up a work area, she had fixed a table which had all her files neatly packed on it.

Caleb noticed her working clothes were pressed and racked up and that she looked worn out so he stepped out quietly from the room so her sleep wouldn't be disturbed.

Caleb went to the kitchen, he saw that Sarahiah had his meal in containers covered but he went to his room only to see that it was clean and everything was neat.

Caleb sat on the bed as he felt his head hurting because he didn't eat the sandwich she gave him that morning and the lunch she had packed, because there were so much to finish at the store and he had completely forgotten to eat. 'I might as well freshen up before I fall asleep.'

After putting on a short pants and a vest, Caleb went downstairs to rest the containers in the fridge. He heard the phone ringing so he went to answer but then it stopped ringing, so he wondered, 'Who could it be calling? Maybe mom or dad is calling?'

Caleb went up to his room and he was glad to be alone so he could finally get some rest after seeing that the next day was not a working day.

Caleb woke up from hearing the phone ringing, "Boy, I hate this," he said and hoped that Sarahiah would answer but it continued to ring.

Caleb finally gave up and went downstairs, he called out to Sarahiah as he felt like he could go back to bed. He was about to take up the phone but it stopped ringing, he then went to the kitchen to see his breakfast was covered and he wondered, 'Where is she?'

Caleb knew Sarahiah was up very early, 'Why didn't she answer the phone?' he thought.

The day was quiet and a few times he passed by her room where she worked, but he heard her on the phone discussing business, and another time she was speaking with the boys.

The new week began, and Caleb decided to work in store three. He was excited and anxiously awaiting to see what she might do there, so he worked alongside the assistant manager.

Sarahiah introduced herself the same way as she did at store two. They worked like strangers, a few times when he queried about her whereabout, the supervisor would say, "She take an hour to go on an errand."

Coming to the end of the week, Caleb observed how quiet she had become. He thought 'I wanted to avoid her, but now the tables have turn and she is the one that is avoiding me, and she seems very happy in her own little world, which she seems very comfortable in, except for a few times when I observed that she was in a heated argument with someone on the phone.'
