As it was coming to the last week, things really sped up, Secure Base A resembled an agitated beehive as people came and left without staying for long. Over this period of time, the queen bee Jacob had accumulated a massive amount of beast cores, a vast majority of them were star level 1.
But as the saying goes, while you may not fear a single mosquito, you will definitely fear a swarm. Excluding people who were too isolated to know about the base, or had been eliminated, around 90% of the participants still active worked around the base.
Most people formed hunting groups, which meant beast cores usually had to be shared, or that the leader made various promises to those under them. Jacob spent a majority of his time cultivating.
Jacob is at stage 16, but he has to spend a majority of his time stabilizing his foundation. He suspects he will have to spend around 2 weeks stabilizing his dantian refinement stage 16 cultivation base. The good news though, is that he is practically unrivalled among the students.
Another thing to note is his martial techniques. Near the beginning of the challenge, he was actually quite squeamish when it came to killing the beasts, but whether he had a good mental state, or he was affected by the current society, he quickly overcame this issue.
Now, besides the time he spent stabilizing, he hunted mostly star level 3 exo beasts. He only targets a few he studied for a while to understand their habits, as even though he is strong in dantian refinement, he still has a bit of trouble when it comes to facing these core formation level beasts.
Right now, he is about to enact his final harvesting plan. He has been collecting data on everyone's gathered points, and rough estimates of the beast cores they have held back. Right now he is about to release an item to cause a huge stir.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Suddenly, from the warehouse building, sirens started going off. A few people scattered, while others gathered. People were curious about what was going on. Eventually, a few lights flashed, and one of the display stands that were mysteriously empty, now held an item.
It was an item that looked like an RPG-7, though it's coloring was different, and the missile had a pointier shape. Many people who were familiar with weapons recognized this intimidating weapon. It was called an RPG-HF, HF standing for Heaven's Fall.
It was a rather old weapon, but it boasted the capabilities of launching an attack equivalent of a peak soul formation cultivator. Everyone nearly salivated at the thought of killing a star level 4 exo beast, and the points they would gain from its core.
Most people quickly had their dreams shattered as they looked at the price of the weapon. The RPG-HF cost a whopping 100,000 credits, with 5,000 credits per missile. The beast core of a stage four exo beast is 10,000 points per stage, 30,000 points for a peak level stage 4 exo beast.
They would have to kill 4 peak stage 4 exo beasts to break even, and more than that to make a profit, as many people were hesitating, a few people ran over from the bounty hall with their faces morphed into expressions of confusion.
One of the subordinates ran to their hesitating bosses and whispered, "Boss, the bounty hall just put out a few kill missions for some stage four exo beasts, and their point rewards are 5,000 per stage." This made a few of the bosses eyes shine.
Quite a few people started to pool their points and sell off their stored beast cores. That day alone 4 RPG-HFs were purchased, groups then set out for their targets.
~~~~~~~
Jacob sat back in his chair ready to watch a good show. While it was true that the RPG-HF has a good attack power, there was a major flaw and reason as to why it was discontinued. The instinct of star level 4 beasts and cultivators is too high.
By the time the rocket is launched, the star level 4 beast would have long sensed it, and made moves to dodge, and while the missiles have target locking abilities, they are rather mediocre as they can't keep track of the star level 4 exo beasts.
They are perfect for wiping out masses of star level 3 and below exo beasts, but in those cases, the beast core is usually destroyed as well. A few people knew of this design flaw and saw the immediate trap, but Jacob made quite a few points from the people who had lesser knowledge.
Overall he made around 700,000 points from the sales of the RPG-HF and its ammunition, and this is only the first day, he bets he will sell at least 2 or 3 more, more if someone gets lucky and actually kills a star level 4 exo beast.
With this in mind, he went back to searching for divine elixirs or main ingredients. Besides the four elements tree, he did not find any divine elixirs, but he has found quite a few main ingredients. The only issue being that he is not a pharmacist.
He planned to do extensive study into the subject when he gets to college, the federal university should have more than enough information. While he was searching up stuff on the internet, he came across something surprising, it was the awards for the survival challenge.
Jacob was rather surprised, this was one thing that always confused him, he knew that there would be place rankings, but he never saw any motivations to do so other than getting in good view of the colleges. Apparently, it was because they had yet to come to a final decision and the Daliomon Survival Challenge was actually a rushed decision.
Posted on the same website that hosted the livestreams, were the various rewards for place rankings. The top 1000 would have the choice of any 1st rate university of their choice. The top 500 would get various resources and money. The top 100 were able to be nominated for the top universities, and various resources.
The real good spots were the top 10, they were guaranteed a choice of pick between the two top universities. Now, what really got his attention was the first place reward, it was a custom warframe. Warframes are not human technology, and was actually something they purchased from higher civilizations.
They are mechanized exo suits with a wide range of technology in them, and they are mentally controlled and boost the abilities of the wearer. Jacob was determined to get one. Though he knew he had a vast lead, he wanted to make it concrete without any chances. He packed up his things, then left his room.
