"But don't worry! They are not all gone! I scattered them all across this world at random places! They could be imbued into an object or just in the air somewhere, or you may even trigger a memory by talking to someone. Don't worry they won't be discovered by others. They are for you only. And when you get too far from the triggers for your memory I will send them closer to your vicinity. See, I'm a very helpful god."
"No…" Zeeth was dejected at this stupid sudden turn of events. He still knew he had a life before this but he couldn't remember a thing about it, just that he was a boy named Zeeth. What a horrible feeling.
"Well, I believe this is fair. Other people lose their bodies and so they aren't used to their bodies yet. It's not as easy as those mangas make it seem you know, so I decided to balance it out so that no one gets an improper head start. But fear not for you will remember how to speak, but I've replaced your language with this world's most spoken language, Zelian. I've given everything I wanted to give so imma go now and you can start your journey."
Zeeth sat there for another minute trying to accept everything. First and foremost, his memory loss. He took a big hit from that. It was like trying to remember the perfect word to use in a situation that you knew existed but was just on the tip of your tongue and then got lost. But on the scale of your entire life instead of a single word. he didn't like it and sat, trying to take it all in.
But after a while, he accepted that he couldn't remember a thing. Instead of wasting his time feeling bad about myself, however, the loss and possible recovery of his memories stimulated him, the fact that he had something so precious taken from him simply caused him to fight more, to find it all despite the literal God taking it from him.
He decided to check out the other stuff he got, like the necklace. It had already appeared around his neck from his hands earlier so it appears that the binding means it will appear around his neck if it isn't there, not just in his possession.
Next, his skill. The screen had disappeared but the logo beside the name of the skill, which showed a picture of a silhouette of a man with a hand raised over a silhouette of a sitting dog and a hundred little white snow-like dots going between the man's palm and the dogs head, appeared on his left shoulder like a tattoo.
He tried to tap on it hoping a screen would appear but nothing happened.
'What? Where's the screen? Do I not get to see the status of things? I thought I would be just like an overpowered anime character.
Oh, hey! I still remember anime! And I remember what mangas are too. Though I don't remember any of the stories. I guess this is God's doing. He must really love manga, huh.'
He checked the necklace and sure enough, the screen didn't come up. That just seemed to be a thing that God allowed him to see temporarily.
He wished he had it, although it would just make him another annoying cliche character with too many unfair advantages.
After checking all these things he got up, resolved to make a proper living in this world. He turned and faced a massive slime ten meters away. The thing was 10 meters tall and just as wide. Every time it landed from one of its massive jumps the sides also flopped down and it left a small crater 11 meters wide on the grassy dirt ground.
...
'Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.'
Zeeth turned around stiffly and sped away trying to walk as fast as possible without alerting the giant slime.
That whole conversation with god had only happened within an instant as god had frozen time. Everything around them everywhere on every planet had been halted so that slime wasn't moving at all before and Zeeth hadn't noticed how powerful it was, assuming all slimes were weak.
But this was a world incredibly dense in mana so anything that absorbs mana throughout its lifetime would, of course, be much stronger than the counterpart on other planets. Even slimes. Or rather, especially slimes as typical ones generally consist of 10% water and 90% mana.
Zeeth didn't know this but he knew that he couldn't handle such a strong opponent so he went looking for a smaller one, hopefully, one the size of his head. As the slime reproduce pretty quickly there were many slimes and many that were pretty small too. Some even the size of a handball, so he decided to go experiment with them first.
He went to a small, handball shaped slime and squatted down next to it to check it out. Upon closer inspection, the slime seems more complicated than he thought and it wasn't just plain, moving goo. The outside was a thin membrane that held in the liquid insides like a malleable yet firm plastic casing. The simple eye dots and cute smiling mouth was also on the inside of the membrane able to move anywhere in the slime through the liquid.
Just as the slime jumped up he cupped his hands to where the slime seemed to be jumping to and caught it. He cupped his hands around it to not let it escape and saw that the blue insides had a darker blue inside than outside. The slime felt like a cold glass of water, really refreshing.
The blueness of the slime comes from mana, not water. If it was all water it would be clear.
'Okay, let's try to tame this slime to experiment. How do I do this? Tame! No…that doesn't work.'
Zeeth tried a dozen other ways, touching the slime with the logo, jumping around with it, and touching their foreheads to see if putting it closer to his head would establish a mind link but none of it worked.
Then he remembered what the logo looked like and he stood up, put his hand above the slime, thought, 'tame', and felt the logo activating. A warm sensation ran from the glowing logo down his arm and when that warmth got to his palm a single white dot came out of his palm and directed itself to the slime.
When the white dot reached the slime it went down to the middle of the slime and slowly dispersed. The slime seemed to grow bigger and a bit darker blue.
'Huh. So that's it? The slime has been tamed? Hey slime, jump up to my head.'
The slime quickly jumped into action. Boing, boing, boing. The slime jumped from the ground onto his shoe, then his open palm, and then his shoulder, and finally the top of his head. It nestled in there quite nicely with his hair and seemed comfortable.
Zeeth was pleasantly surprised by its jumping ability. He was a tall, scrawny kid and six feet one which meant he wouldn't be easy to climb, yet this small slimeball that barely graduated from being a handball easily climbed the six feet in just 3 jumps.
"I'm going to call you Al."
While it was jumping onto him Zeeth noticed that the slime folded into itself several times like layers of slabs of fat and compressed its body so that when it released all the tension it could jump many times its size, somewhat like a fat spring though not totally the same.
After looking at this slime for a while he decided to go for a slightly bigger slime. Maybe one the size of a basketball like he originally planned. He looked around and saw one a few meters away that was a bit bigger but decided it was good enough anyway.
Zeeth slowly approached it from behind and grabbed its side in mid-jump. The slime had no real mouth or lungs so it didn't say anything, but instead, its body gurgled with a "wurg-wurgle" and the eyes rolled back to see its... grabber and its body elongated upwards and out and thinned a little bit to try and escape the grasp.
Zeeth didn't let go and closed his hands tighter around the slime. When escaping didn't work the slime opened a hole from the "mouth" which also created a hole in the membrane in front of the mouth and shot out a jet of sparkling water, only a bit stronger than a hose.
The water splashed onto Zeeth's face, drenching his upper torso and face with water, but did nothing else. Zeeth looked at the slime blankly, "You can do that? Hmm, this water is really tasty. Hey, Al, you do that too."
Al looked at the basketball slime with sparkling eyes, possibly from the water that the big slime shot at Zeeth which also drenched Al, and also real sparkles from discovering that this basketball slime could use that amazing skill.
In reality, the water jet wasn't that great. It was just using the mana around the slime to make more water in its body and took some other mana to use as compressed air behind it to shoot out the water like a jet.
It wasn't that strong, but to a newborn (and very cute) baby slime and a man from another world who also lost all of his memories, it was an amazing skill.
Although his tamer skill with 100 control was far more superior.
After hearing his command and understanding its masters will Al also tried to attack as well. It sat still for a moment, then a hole opened up in front of the fake mouth. Some of the water on Zeeth's head and most of the water on the slime body was sucked away into Al. Then Zeeth felt some of his hair near Al rustled as it absorbed more air around it into itself and Al's body expanded to twice his original size although it still weighed about the same since it was mostly air that Al sucked in which couldn't be converted to water like mana.
Al pointed the hole at the slime still within Zeeths grasp and rapidly shot out what little amount of the water it had absorbed from the basketball slime with the air pushing the water out, which resulted in the body also rapidly decreasing in size until it was the original, small Al again.
Actually, instead of rapidly shooting out water, Al just sprinkled it out. All that dramatic build-up and baby Al only made a light rainbow as water sprinkled the basketball slime.
"Al, what was that?"
Al's body curved into the shape of a question mark without the dot as if it was just as confusing as Zeeth. The basketball slime still held tightly by Zeeth squirmed into the same shape. The basketball slime was just as confused. Why did this bigger and stronger enemy not kill it yet, and instead only sprinkled water on the slime?
with that thought, it had calmed down much more. enough for it to be tamed, so Zeeth also tamed this slime and named it Bu. The logo on his arm turned another white dot black, but Zeeth hadn't noticed this one either.
Three months passed like this, Zeeth going around, taming monsters and every night he would open a call with god. From his experimentation and conversations with God, he learned a lot about slime and this new world.
Slimes are basically the embodiment of mana, they are the creature with the highest mana to body ratio and the rest of the body is just water. The bodies of the slimes are just sentient blobs of water that we're able to move by using mana.
Well, sentient wasn't the right word, as the slimes couldn't think for themselves, they just ran or attacked when they felt endangered and drank water when they felt like it. And that was usually only when they saw water. So they just lived on instinct and could not make complex thoughts.
Slimes are born in one of two ways, one way was that enough mana coalesces into one place in water and it forms a sentient being capable of jumping. Or two, a magician capable of exerting a lot of mana into a controlled space of water and not letting the mana flow out for the next minute can make an artificial slime.
Of course, they had their differences, fake slimes were usually much less flexible, and they stay in the shape of the container that held the water that it used to be.
Naturally born slimes are spherical, but they can bend their bodies to make any shape because of the incredibly complex and amazing structure of its membrane and the natural liquids on the inside making a perfect balance.
Natural-born slimes are also far hard to kill. They normally would be much weaker, but they were still monsters made of mana, so it wasn't easy either. It would require a full-grown man of earth exerting all his strength on a sword swing to pop a small slime and kill it.
However, now that the mana density of this world was so high the monsters born from mana would of course also be stronger. Slimes would now need to be weakened by pretty intense heat first, then shove a sword into the weakened area in hopes that it would pop.
Or, since the slime's physical body is still water, if frozen then you could stop the slime. But that would only halt its movements, not kill it. You would still need to crush it and break the slime to kill it.
But killing slimes was worth it as the water that made up the slimes were top-notch. The water in the slime had been mixed with an abnormal amount of mana, changing its innate flavor to be like a cool, refreshing drink, even in hot temperatures and the water had some chance of temporarily increasing your mana.
Many adventurers and wizards on the stronger side even purposefully lead alive slimes around with them to keep the freshness to a maximum when they needed it.
Also, when Zeeth asked god to tell him the most special features of slimes, god replied, "Slimes are the most adaptable creatures around. If monsters were to be compared to objects, slimes would be the sponges of the monster world and the magic would be whatever it sucked up."
Zeeth had no idea what this meant, he simply thought that slimes could suck up a lot of mana, but he already discovered that with Bu, so he just thought, well that's some time wasted.
He also couldn't "disown" or kill his tamed monsters. The only way they could be disconnected from him is if they rebelled, as stated in the description of the skill. If they did, the tamed creature would first steal about half of its masters' mana and then become enraged, using this extra mana to boost everything about itself, then attack and try to kill the master at all costs.
This usually only happened in serious cases where the master continuously tortures the tamed creature and treated it like absolute trash.
Of course, it would be different for various creatures. Proud creatures like dragons would require constant sacrifices and noble treatment to not rebel and only then would they listen.
