Chapter 5: The Return of Heaven's Proud Son (Part 5)

Majestic and magnificent.

Ji Anning stared at the fountain, her thoughts drifting far away when Ji Jingfeng suddenly turned to look at her, "Chicheng is back."

Ji Anning's train of thought was interrupted, she pursed her lips and smiled, not surprised because she had already seen him.

Looking at that fountain, she knew, the fountain was built for him, if it weren't for his return, why would it be turned on?

Ji Anning's gaze returned to the fountain, which was rising and falling sporadically, and suddenly her eyes felt a bit sour and astringent.

The car slowly stopped at the grand entrance of the mansion, where the butler had already been waiting, Ji Jingfeng unbuckled his seatbelt, got out of the car, and casually tossed the car keys to the butler.

He turned around to reach out for Ji Anning's hand, who had followed him out of the car.

The warm, soft palm made Ji Anning startle, she dumbly raised her head to look at Ji Jingfeng.

Ji Jingfeng raised his eyebrows, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Ji Anning shook her head, inwardly annoyed at herself for overreacting.

Wasn't it normal for them to hold hands? She was getting nervous over nothing.

Stepping through the entrance, Ji Anning sensed a warm atmosphere in the home that hadn't been felt in a long time, even though there actually wasn't a single person in the living room.

Or perhaps… it was just in her mind.

"Everyone is probably in the dining room having breakfast, let's go there."

After changing shoes, Ji Jingfeng once again took hold of Ji Anning's hand, leading her towards the dining room.

Ji Anning frowned, naturally pushing Ji Jingfeng's hand away, "Jingfeng, I'm not hungry. I've arranged to meet classmates at school today to register, and I'm afraid of being late. I want to get ready."

Ji Chicheng was back, at this moment, definitely the whole family would be in the dining room. Thinking of last night's nightmare, she was scared. She didn't have the courage to face it.

Hearing this, Ji Jingfeng didn't make it difficult for her, "Then go get ready. I'll explain to grandpa for you."

"Thank you."

Ji Anning forced a rather unnatural smile, nodded her thanks to Ji Jingfeng, watched him enter the dining room, and then she let out a relieved sigh and turned to go upstairs.

In the shadows, the man retracted his lazy gaze as Ji Anning turned, watching her slowly ascend the stairs.

He lifted his foot, ready to step out of the corner when suddenly his eyes flashed. A petite figure emerged from the second room, storming toward the staircase.

The man thought of something, his gaze briefly flicked to Ji Anning about to go upstairs, the corners of his lips curving with interest as if waiting for a drama that was about to unfold. His steps nonchalantly retreated back into shadow.

...

"Ji Anning!"

Ji Anning had just stepped onto the staircase.

Suddenly, someone from above the stairs called out her name, the voice sharp and piercing.

Ji Anning reluctantly shrugged her shoulders, pursed her lips, and lifted her head with a smile, "Ruoqian."

A fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl, full of aggression, hurried down the stairs to Ji Anning's side, looking at her arrogantly, "Did you finish my summer homework for me?"
