Chapter 17 She Will Be Mine Sooner or Later (Part 1)

Ji Anning had finished her enrollment procedures and was hurrying down from their department's registration site, glancing at her watch as she walked.

"Ji Anning."

Just as she reached the first floor, a tall figure suddenly popped out of a dark corner, blocking her way.

"Ah!" Ji Anning was startled, patting her chest before frowning at the beautiful girl in front of her, "Danning, you scared me to death."

It was her good friend from childhood, Yang Danning.

She was the same age as Anning, also at T University, but a sophomore—an upperclassman there.

"Please, you're such a scaredy-cat?" Yang Danning rolled her eyes at Ji Anning, surveying her with dissatisfaction, "Yesterday was your birthday, I said I'd celebrate it with you, but you just wouldn't come out. Do you have any idea how mad Missy here was?"

"Danning, I'm sorry," Ji Anning apologized, bowing her head and pressing her lips together bitterly.

She herself wished she could've gone out to have a simple birthday celebration with her friend instead of experiencing that nightmarish event last night.

Now, just thinking about it made her whole body shiver; she truly hoped everything that happened last night was just a bad dream.

"Knowing you're sorry is good enough for me," Yang Danning pretended to pout in anger before bending down to rummage through her large hemp bag and pulled out a delicate little box, handing it to Anning, "Here, although Missy here is very angry, the gift was already bought, and it'd be such a waste to throw it away."

She tilted her chin, looking proud as if bestowing charity, but Ji Anning broke into a smile, "Danning, thank you."

She gratefully thanked Yang Danning before reaching out unpretentiously to take the box in her hands.

Yang Danning still tilted her chin, pouting arrogantly and pretending to still be angry as she looked at Ji Anning, "Thank me by taking me out to eat."

"Sure," Ji Anning nodded in agreement cheerfully, then her face fell slightly into a helpless grimace, "But not today, let's do it another day."

"Can't you show a little sincerity?" Yang Danning frowned, getting annoyed, and forcefully jabbed Ji Anning's forehead with her finger, "What are you off to do now?"

It seemed she was already used to this.

"What else could I be doing." Ji Anning pursed her lips, looking down at the delicate box in her hands, which she held with care, gently rubbing one corner with the pad of her thumb.

In Capital City, she had only this one friend who cared about her, remembered her birthday every year, and after every family gathering during the holidays, would pull her out for a stealthy little get-together.

She cherished it all the more.

Yang Danning frowned, her tone certain, "Ji Anning, are you off to be an extra again?"

She always spoke loudly, and now, a bit angry, her voice was especially loud. Ji Anning quickly covered her mouth, "Keep it down."

She scanned around to make sure no one was looking their way before removing her hand from Danning's mouth.
