Chapter 38: Entering His Apartment (2)

"Uncle..."

Had her grandfather sent someone to find her, to investigate her because she hasn't returned until now?

Then...

Ji Anning didn't want to think further, staring with wide eyes at Ji Chicheng who had already approached her.

His stern face seemed to be coated with a layer of frost, cold and terrifying. Those black eyes flickering with a dark glow were even colder than an ice cellar.

Ji Anning bit her lip, bowed her head, and braced for the worst.

Well, it was better they knew; being completely driven out of the Ji Family, her heart would no longer have to endure the torment.

She didn't want to think about the future, about how she should move forward, or what to do with her parents still in recovery; she felt powerless to consider these things.

Yang Danning seemed to realize what Ji Anning was afraid of and quickly explained, "Your mom called me, said you hadn't gone back home and I didn't dare to say you went back alone, so I told her you were with me. After hanging up the phone, I immediately came to find you. Having one more person is having more strength, so I also called your uncle to come out."

Upon hearing this, Ji Anning's head shot up, eyes filled with excitement and surprise. The originally dim black pupils suddenly brightened.

It was like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

She looked at Ji Chicheng, whose handsome face under the lights had even more pronounced and sculpted features, his contours exceptionally clear and coldly defined.

His dark, brooding eyes also looked at her, as inscrutable as ever, leaving one unable to see or guess what he was thinking, what he would do the next second.

Yang Danning, unaware of Ji Anning's gaze, looked at her drenched and disheveled appearance, and scolded with distressed concern, "What are you doing? Are you foolish? Do you know how dirty the fountain water is?"

Ji Anning's nose tingled, and without saying a word, she reached out and hugged Yang Danning.

How wonderful, to have a caring friend like this at such a time, to embrace her, to give her a bit of warmth.

Ji Chicheng stood by, his face stern, silent.

Nobody noticed that his hand, hanging by his side clenched into a fist, had its veins bulging.

So far in this world, the most painful thing for him was to restrain his feelings for her.

Yang Danning gently patted Ji Anning's back. Because of her pity, her voice was a bit nasal, "You naughty girl, you're all wet; don't bring misfortune upon me."

Though she spoke like this, her arms were embracing Anning even more tightly.

"Right." Ji Anning suddenly thought of something and became nervous again. She lifted her eyelids to glance at Ji Chicheng and asked in a lowered voice, "How did you know I was here?"

She herself didn't even know where this place was, how could they have found her?

"Ji Jingfeng called me, said you were here crying, refusing to leave no matter what, and asked me to come and persuade you," Yang Danning said, gently pushing Ji Anning away to take a good look at her from head to toe. She then asked, "What's the matter with you? Why are you here? Did you have a fight with Ji Jingfeng?"

Ji Anning hung her head low, biting her lip, uncertain how to answer.

Her look was such that Yang Danning grew even more anxious. "Speak up, did that Ji Jingfeng kid do something to wrong you?"

Ji Anning shook her head, "It's not that, he did nothing to wrong me; we just had a small argument over something else."

If she claimed that she hadn't argued with Ji Jingfeng, her current state here couldn't be justified.

Yang Danning wasn't foolish; she knew that Ji Anning's answer was just a way to placate her.
