Francis turned his gaze toward Eleanor with an indifferent expression and asked her with a cold tone,
"And why do you think that my decision is too much?!"
She didn't seem fazed on the outside but on the inside, her heart was bitting faster with every breath she took, she was scared of being discovered but she couldn't bear to do anything while a poor innocent girl was going to be executed. So, she decided to talk back even though her heart expressed anxiousness and fear.
"Because I believe that she doesn't deserve to die just for entering the palace....it is too much of a punishment."
He didn't move his golden eyes away from her and replied after looking at her for a moment,
"I am not killing her for trespassing, that is just a reason.." Before he could finish, her face became pale and stunned she said with a voice full of anger,
"Then why?! why are you deciding to kill her so easily?"
Alphonse who was a moment ago beside the window, was now standing beside her and trying to figure Francis's mood that seemed indecipherable. knowing that this subject had always been delicate for him, he feared that anger would prevail over him and that he would attack her not physically of course, but in any way possible.
Francis didn't move or look away from her, as if he was trying to study her intentions. A smile appeared at the corner of his mouth before he answered,
"That's,... obviously because she is a witch."
At his sarcastic response, her eyes widened in surprise and a part of her knew that this may have been the reason but deep inside she wished that it wouldn't be the case. This showed her yet again, the unfair treatment that some people must face because of this kind of selfish decision from royalties. she remembered why, she had to leave her homeland, why she fled like a criminal even though she didn't do anything to deserve it. She supressed her anger and tried to answer calmly with a voice that unfortunately for her sounded more trembling than calm,
"Does been a witch make you a criminal?! I didn't know that, you people judged others because of their difference."
He narrowed his eyes because her gazes suddenly turned as cold as his. Valeria was outraged by the way Eleanor belittled the emperor and intervened by saying,
"You don't even know anything about witches so how dare you judge his majesty's decision?!"
Eleanor answered her without sparing a glance toward her, her eyes still locked on Francis, which annoyed Valeria even more,
"I know enough to say that this verdict is infair.."
Valeria clenching her teeth from anger, then she smirked and asked Eleanor, "so, please tell us what you think about witches."
"I don't know why no one noticed it or even tried to look into it but I believe that there are good witches and dark witches..."
Sebastian frowned at her answer, he was quiet for a while because of the fact that Francis was normally really sensitive about anything related to witches and he didn't want to stir his anger even more by interfering between them like Valeria did. But without meaning to he reacted to what Eleanor said about the witches, hence he asked her,
"What do you mean by that? also, what difference does it make, since however we look at it they are still the same, peoples using weird and malicious spell against others."
"That's a misjudgment, there's a big difference between a good witch and a dark witch. Firstly, they don't use their power for the same purpose and on top of that the origin of their power are distinct for either one of them."
They all looked at her puzzled aside for Francis who still had an indifferent expression, and they didn't seem to understand what she mean. 'It seem like they don't know anything about the witches apart from the fact that they were powerful and maleficent. It may be the reason why the witches were hunted down until now, whether they were good or bad.' She thought, feeling sorrowful for the poor witches that didn't deserves the horrible treatment from the humans. Val touched the scar on his right cheek and said,
"Okay, but how can we differentiate them? also what do you mean by their purpose and the origin of their power."
"Well, you have to understand that the witches don't always use their power any time they want, because it is too exhausting for them and it could harm their body. They use it for a specific purpose like for example healing a person or finding a lost child or growing herbes and vegetables faster. I don't know much but the good witches only use their power to help others or for daily life. They are gifted with their power and it emerge from the earth and nature, it is harmless and if they ever happen to hurt an innocent person, they will naturally lose their power or in some cases become black witches."
They were speechless and skeptics after hearing her explanation but they still didn't interupt her so she continued her explanation,
"For the dark witch, they often do evil work like killing people because they were hired and they also put a curse on people.." As she said that, Francis forehead perked up in surprise as if he had seen it. She looked at him in wonder then pursued,
"They draw their power from the invocation of the evil demons or of sacrifices....for the most dangerous witches, they often sacrifices human...." She had a hard time maintaining a calm expression, because disgust was spreading through her. Then, she deeply breath and continued,
"But you can reconize the difference between them by looking at the place they live in. The good witches have herbes around them but for the dark witches cases they own skeletons of all kind of animal they sacrifices and some times even those of humans.....That's what you must know about them."
Silence fell in the room, what Eleanor said made sense even if she couldn't prove it, they surely often saw what she described at some point out there. They couldn't refute what she told them but the fact that she knew this much about the witches made them wonder and Francis, the most suspicious of them all asked her,
"How did you know about all this?"
