What The Hell Was That? 4.2

Nathan stared at the girl sleeping in front of her, feeling a bit of deja vu. Lexie was wearing jeans now but that didn't stop Nathan remembering the last time he saw her sleeping, his eyes travelled from her feat to her calfs, up to her knees, her thighs…

Nathan cleared his throat, looking away from her legs. Instead, his eyes found her face. She's beautiful, her hair looks better now compared to when he first saw her, although it didn't look bad back then. Her mouth was slighlty opened, she was snoring ever so lightly. He laughed and the sound caused Lexie to wake up.

"Hmmmm.." Lexie woke up, looking around, Nathan was standing in front of her looking amused. 'That's new', she thought.

She got up, stretching her arms above her head. Nathan was still looking at her.

"What are you doing out here?"

With his question, she stopped. She remembered her problem, suddenly she feels nervous. "Well…" She mumbled.

"What?"

"I lost my keys." She admitted, looking at the ground.

"You what??" His face no longer amused.

"I'm sorry. I lost it." She finally looked at him and immediately regretted it. Nathan was furious.

"How did you even lose it? Why were you outside anyway?" Nathan moved to open the door with Lexie immediately moving out of the way.

"Well, I was out with Jana buying clothes. I don't really have that much you know, and I wanted to have something more comfortable to wear in there."

With that, Nathan just sighed. She bought clothes? Good. He wasn't particularly fond of her previous outfits, especially that gray skirt and her black tattered shorts. He didn't like the way people looked at her, leered at her. Of course he insisted that it was because she was only a kid. Finally opening the door, he stepped in not saying anything else to Lexie.

Lexie followed expecting him to scold her or something, but he didn't say anything. He went to the office then to the back to get more beer to stock in the fridge, then to the kitchen.

"Is there anything I can do for you?" He finally turned to her, annoyed.

Lexie had been quietly following him around the bar the whole time. "Aren't you mad at me? Scold me?" She asked.

"I'm not your dad princess. Why would I do that?"

"Well, aren't you my boss?"

"Kaylee is your boss." He stated.

"But you also own the bar, right?" She was a bit confused now. According to Jen, Nathan and Kaylee are partners in this bar.

"Yes. But Kaylee hired you, so she's your boss." He started walking again, thinking the conversation has ended.

Lexie followed, not contented with his answer. "Then what are you? I mean, if you're not my boss, then what are you?"

Nathan suddenly stopped and turned that Lexie didn't have enough time to react and she ended up bumping on to Nathan. She looked up and Nathan was only a few inches from him, she gasped and took a step back.

"Well…" He took a step towards her. "I… well… I, am not your boss. That's it." He took another step forward, walking past Lexie.

Lexie was a bit taken a back, she thought Nathan might try something, is she's being honest she was a little disappointed when he walked past her. "Okay then. Not my boss. And not my dad." She said to herself.

Nathan laughed when he heard what she said but just kept going. He still had a lot to do before opening.

"Where did you lose it?"

"I don't know. I'm really sorry." Lexie couldn't look at Kaylee when she's mad. Seriously, Lexie did not expect this, she thought it was Nathan that would be reacting this way and Kaylee would be more chill. I guess it was the other way around.

"How could you not know??" Kaylee was trying to calm herself.

"Jana took me to a thrift shop earlier, then afterwards we had lunch, and that's it. I didn't go anywhere else, I don't know if I left there or dropped it somewhere on the road."

"My god Lexie, how could you be so irresponsible?" Kaylee sighed, still annoyed.

"I'm really sorry Kaylee. I would've gone back to the shop, but I didn't know how." Tears were starting to pool at the side of Lexie's eyes. She hated this, just a while ago she felt so independent, now she feels like a little spoiled girl that doesn't even know how to get to places. She's only been in this town for 10 days, and she haven't been out much, so she's not familiar with the place yet.

"There's nothing we could do now." Kaylee handed Lexie a new set of keys. "Don't lose it again."

Lexie nodded, not trusting her voice not to crack if she answered.

"I'm serious Lexie, this is your last chance. Lose this again and you're no longer allowed here."

"Yes." Lexie looked up at Kaylee, she still looked annoyed. She's scary when she's mad.

After being dismissed, Lexie walked out of the office. Tears finally falling, she kept her head down trying to cover her face, not noticing the person watching her.

"Yo 21, how did it go?" Nathan was standing a few steps away from Lexie. Although he wouldn't admit it, he was waiting for her.

Lexie looked up, furiously wiping away her tears. "Not now Nathan." She managed to say as she sniffed.

Seeing her face, Nathan immediately got serious, he quickly moved towards her. "What happened Princess?" He wiped her tears.

"Nothing." Lexie tried to look away, she didn't want anyone to see her crying like a baby. This is embarassing.

"Come on princess, you can tell me. What did she say?" Nathan's hand was on her head, caressing.

His voice was so soft, so gentle that it took Lexie by surprise. She looked up at him, he was just a few inches away from her. Suddenly her heart was beating so fast, why was he looking at her like this? Is he really concerned, worried?

Nathan didn't realize he was standing too close to her, he didn't realize what he just did. Seeing her, tears falling down her face, he just moved on instinct. Now, with her just a few inches from him, he didn't know what to do, it's like his mind stopped working.

He looked at her lips, they were partly opened from her crying. They looked so soft, so inviting…

Finally coming to his senses, Nathan cleared his throat and took a step back. Lexie was looking at him, surprised, not saying anything.

Nathan cleared his throat again, trying to get past the awkward situation. Not knowing what else to do, he just left.

"What the hell was that?" Lexie whispered to herself.
