Hackerconn

I woke up to Hunter sitting on the side of my bed. The other side was facing the wall so I couldn't exit unless he moved. He looked back at me, I couldn't read his face it was as if he had totally shut down his emotions. If I'm being honest it was kind of scary.

He stood up and looked back it looked as if a smile had formed on his face but I couldn't tell since he was looking at the ground. I stood up and started to get ready like a normal day. I brushed my hair and my teeth, Hunter stepped outside so I could change and then we both headed downstairs for breakfast. I made some French toast for us to eat and once it was all gone we started walking out. But then I remembered that today was a special day for hackers. It was The 10th anniversary for hackerconns. Basically to sum hackerconn up, it's a huge virtual meet up where hackers in the top 10 list all are assigned games. We're supposed to go and hack them and mess around all day, we can go from hardly anything to shutting the company down! Surprisingly this is a totally legal day. Are gaming companies normally shut their games down when hackerconn comes but those who don't are totally willing to let us back into their games sometimes they do have rules and most of the time we can't shut their business down but when we can we really do try.

Like I said before, I'm the only hacker in the world that can shut a game down which means I'm the only hacker in the world that can shut a company down. And I'm not that ruthless.

I ran back up the stairs and grabbed my computer and it's charger. I dragged Hunter to the bus at a "full-out" run. When the bus arrive I didn't waste any time climbing on and finding a seat. Hunter hadn't said a word to me, or much less looked at me, but I was so excited I hardly even noticed. The time on the bus felt like hours and hours on end.

When we finally reached the café, I ran inside and to my surprise, the café was totally closed! All the employees were there but it was closed for some reason. Ferne, Crystal, and Hazel all walked up to me at once and asked me if I was ready. All of a sudden I totally understood.

The café employees (my best friends) were the only ones that knew about my hacker secret. They found out last year on hackerconn. Last year I had open my computer and apparently it was on full blast so they heard it and it ended up becoming our little secret. They all support me all the way so I wasn't very surprised when I saw that they shut the place down for today.

I open my computer and turned it up a bit so I could hear the names being announced. Luckily I'm at the top of the list, so my game was being said last. Well the top 10 through five players were called and given their games, my coworkers brought snacks for everyone and made drinks. We all sat through the next pair of names. I had heard one familiar name, Second on the leaderboard, VenexViress. They were assigned the game MoineCreft.

When it was finally my turn everyone was on the edge of their seat.

"And finally, ranking first on the leaderboard, Psyche. Who will be hacking..."

Everyone bit their lips and leaned even farther. Anymore leaning would actually cause them to fall.

"Fighting Field!"

My heart dropped.

It went even farther down when I saw Hunter staring at me through the window from across the street, holding his phone in which was playing the live stream.
