Old Ex

I couldn't tear my eyes away from the man staring at me from across the street. His eyes flickered with hate and hostility. He tore his keys he tore his gaze away and looked down at his phone. She looked at her computer and quickly type something. Her coworkers watched her and kept asking her what was wrong. She clicked enter after typing a few sentences. A second later she clicked a button that allowed her to exit hackerconn. She logged onto the stream and was just in time to hear the host make an announcement:

"It appears Psyche just quit the hackerconn competition."

Everyone watching started commenting into the show. I watched the stream a bit more, my coworkers mumbled in the background trying to figure out why I quit. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Crystal walked past me to the door. I sat back in the chair, my eyes still glued to the screen. I watched as all the other hackers logged into their games and messed with the admins.

Crystal was talking to the person at the door. Soon enough her and the other person passed by me. She whispered to me asking me to speak with her alone. She led me to the women's restroom and locked the door.

"I didn't know you have a boyfriend!" She yelled.

I stared at her in shock. "That's because I don't," I responded. "I don't have time for that and you know that."

"What do you mean? A suuuuuper hot boy came, telling us he was your boyfriend."

I narrowed my eyes. I ran out of the bathroom, then looked at the group my coworkers formed around a- like Crystal said, a super hot boy. He had brown hair with yellow frosted tips, he wore a black, leather jacket with ripped jeans. The boy was the description of a hot, male, rebel.

But he was also my ex. I used to date him in college. Keyword: used. He went behind my back and turned all my friends against me. Not only that but I caught him cheating on me with my former best friend! I broke up with him and contacted the staff. I was moved into a different room with Crystal as my roommate. Then I switched all my classes that he was in and replaced them with honors classes. And everything was doing fine, I was able to avoid him for the rest of my life, until... now.

"What are you doing here?!" I exclaimed.

"Hey babe!" He said. He turned around to face me and he made his way through the crowd to stand in front of me.

I'm so fed up with him! He stood next to me and placed his hand behind me on my waist facing my coworkers. "I am not your girlfriend, don't come close to me or touch me, and why are you here?" I pushed him away and folded my arms. He looked hurt and stared at me. He never answered my question and he started walking to the door. "Where are you going?"

He looked back when I asked and said, solemnly, "Maybe I should talk to you a different time." He looked back down to the floor and walked out.

I explained everything to my coworkers and after a while we all sat down and watched the stream. We all laughed throughout the whole thing because all the hackers were literally playing with the role play servers. They had forced people to talk and wear ridiculous outfits. Hackers have turned into real comedians.

By the time the stream ended, it was pitch black outside, besides for the light from the moon and the street lights. Even though we were closed all day, I still had to clean because we had been eating and drinking coffee the whole time during the live. I grabbed my computer and headed outside. I locked the door and turned around, pulling my phone out to call an Uber since the bus had closed. Before I could even turn it on someone had smacked it out of my hands, sending the phone flying on the concrete to the front of the window. The stranger grabbed my wrists, positioning one up high and the other down a little ways from my side. They pushed me back into the wall, their tight grip impossible to flee from.

I winced in pain at the rough impact on the wall. I looked up to see my ex, Tanner. He smiled at me, it was an evil sneer bad guys in movies would usually express when they got something totally OP (over powered). His brown eyes turned pitch black in the darkness.

"It wasn't very nice of you to embarrassing in front of all your friends like that," he taunted. "Why have you been avoiding me?" He added.

"Why wouldn't I?! You made all my friends hate me!" I yelled.

"I simply told them the truth. They were the ones that went and had those feelings. But I stayed by your side." He sneered.

"By my side?! You cheated on me with my best friend you made hate me!" I yelled.

"She kissed ME!" He yelled back, "let me just explain, Kokoah!"

I winced when he raised his voice. All of a sudden he let go of my wrists, my eyes were closed and I had no idea what happened. All of a sudden I heard another voice.

"I don't think she enjoys being forced onto the wall like that."

I opened my eyes and saw Hunter standing in front of me facing Tanner. Tanner's smile vanished and he stared at Hunter, whenever he'd try to look at me I'd move so Hunter covered me. Tanner sighed, whispered something under his breath, and started to walk away. Hunter turned around to look at me.

"Are you okay?" He asked. He extended his hand so he could look at my wrists. I held my hands up and he looked at them. They weren't hurt, just a little red. "Do you need a ride home?" He looked up and let go of my hand, walking to the window to retrieve my phone.

"Yeah, I do, I'm going to call an Uber." I said.

"Actually. You're coming with me." He announced, barely giving me time to process his words, he pulled me to a long, black car with dark, tinted windows. A limousine?! He opened the door for me and I climbed in. What? It was a free ride- in a limo might I add!

He talked to the driver through an open-and-close window between the front and back. I couldn't hear the conversation, but I didn't care because I was looking at the lights and the cool designs printed on the seats. Hunter looked back at me and then looked at my computer.

"You didn't have to quit the game." He said, looking back at me.

"How'd you know?!" I asked. It had just occurred to me how Hunter had acted very weird in the morning. She also realized how Hunter had stared at her viciously after her name was assigned to "Fighting Feild".

"Your computer turned on last night. You were on the login page of "Fighting Field", your nickname was Psyche." He explained.

I chuckled. "I knew it." I stared into his eyes. "How could I not quit? I messed with your game once and it was a mistake to do so. Besides the way you stared at me, I was kind of forced to." We both looked away, feeling a little guilty for ruining the games for each other. A while later, the silence was getting scary so we both got a drink and talked about the games and what they're about.

"Sir, we've arrived." Chimed a voice.

Hunter climbed out of the car and held the door for me. When we were out of the car he walked me up to a mansion's front door.

"Hunter. This isn't my house." I said, pointing.

"I know." He replied sweetly, "It's mine."
