Repressed Memories

After rounds of examinations, Selina could finally take a deep breath and relax in bed. Doctors stepped out with Jason after they came to a conclusion.

Jason worriedly asked, "How is her condition?"

"Miss. Gu is fine for the most part. When we examined her earlier, we asked multiple questions in different orders to test her reactions and how fast she was able to answer. Everything was fine until we asked about her family members. She seems to have no recollection of anything related to her family." The doctor explained their concluded results to him.

"No recollection? So, she lost her memories?" Jason furrowed his brows.

"You see, the patient had gone through some trauma before she jumped from the bridge. Whatever triggered her to reach a breaking point is like a treasure chest with a lock on it. She gathered everything related to that event and stuffed it in the chest. Her body is in defense mode right now." The doctor took out a pen and scribbled on a piece of paper to demonstrate.

"Would she recover these memories?" Jason nodded as he understood what the doctors meant.

"This.. will depend on herself. There may be flashbacks when she goes back to places she used to go to or see people she used to love. As for her memories, it'll be a difficult process for her and as her guardian, you need to consider carefully too. You can let her recover on her own or purposely trigger her emotions."

"I must warn you, though. Whatever triggered her suicide must have been an extremely distressing event for her to suicide. If she recalls these memories, she might not be able to handle it. I suggest letting her rest and recover naturally. Let her brain work at its own pace."

The doctor recommended his best advice and handed prescriptions to Jason. "These pills and ointments must be consumed and used daily. Her chest injury is healing correctly, but make sure it doesn't contract water. Since the wound was considered deep and had an infection before, you must be more cautious around her. Make sure she doesn't make large movements."

Taking out his phone, Jason started jotting down notes on taking care of her. Once in a while, he would ask questions and continuously nod. After speaking to the doctor for twenty minutes, Jason went back to the room where he saw Aaron having a helpless expression on his face.

It looked like he was screaming "help!" from deep inside.

Turning around, Aaron smiled greatly. "Boss! You're finally back! Miss. Gu has questions for you that only you could answer!"

Forcing a smile on his face, he gave Aaron a quick meaningful glance. "Selina, how are you feeling?"

Jason cursed to himself when he heard Aaron passing the ball to him. The moment he walked in; Selina's eyes had glued to him. Ever since she woke up and saw him, she felt a sense of familiarity. Taking a sip of warm water from the glass in her hands, she cleared her throat.

"Do we know each other?" Her question surprised him once again.

"Yes, we do. You can even say we were friends for a long time." He sat down by her bedside was looked into her eyes.

"How come I don't remember?" She frowned as she realized her memories were as blank as a piece of paper. Her head would start hurting when she forces herself to think of her family.

Curling his lips to a small smile, "Of course you don't remember me. We met for a short period of time. Do you want to hear about our story? I can tell you about it."

She hesitated for a few minutes before nodding to his offer. "Okay."

"We met at an orphanage when you were around five or six years old. I found you crying in front of the entrance and brought you in. You were crying and feeling scared about the strange place. Since I was the one who brought you inside, you instinctively followed me around wherever I went."

"I wasn't good at associating with other kids, so I often played alone. If it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't have fun there. Your smile was the sweetest and most beautiful. You were so innocent and always found the smallest reasons to make me smile."

Chuckling, he supported his chin on his palm. "Selina, do you know what type of nuts you liked best when you were a child? Actually, this snack is a fruit, but often mistook for a nut. It starts with the letter, A."

Tilting her head slightly, she answered, "Almonds?"

"Correct. When we shared a pack of chocolate almonds in the past, you always only wanted to eat the almonds. No matter how many times I told you that you must eat the layer of chocolate with the almonds, you'd stuff the chocolate parts to my mouth."

"Did I? Heh.." She let out a soft laugh at the thought of her silliness.

"When we are a slice of chocolate cake together, you purposely cut thin layers out of it. You told me you liked eating it this way because it's fun. At the end, kids started imitating your method and drove the teacher crazy. You were very adorable and cheerful. Everyone loved you." His eyes curved as his smile revealed his white teeth.

"Haha, then we must have been great friends for you to compliment me like this." As the conversation continued, she became more relaxed around him. Her instincts told her that she definitely knew him for her to lower her guards.

"Nope. We weren't just friends."

"Then what were we?" Suddenly, she felt a warm pair of hands holding onto hers. Her gaze lowered to see his thumbs rubbing against the back of her hand. 'This feeling...' Her thoughts were cut short as he answered her question.

Looking into her eyes affectionately, he smiled like how a grandpa would look at his wife. "We're considered engaged."

Aaron: 'Boss...Just when did you get yourself a fiancée? I was answering your parent's phone calls just yesterday night! They nagged me hours for making you work, work and work. It took me great efforts to convince them about work being more important than relationships. And here you are...with your fiancée..'
