Prove To You

"Engaged?" She repeated to make sure she didn't hear it wrong.

"Yep. You were the one who proposed to me too. When we separated, you asked me to wait for you until you were old enough to be my bride. When that time comes, you'll be my bride and I can't say no to marrying you. Not only that, you even.."

"I even what?" She gasped lightly when she heard the mysterious pause at the end of the sentence. Using his index finger, he pointed at his lips and tapped it a few times.

"You took my first kiss before you left." His smile was one filled with happiness. Like a child, the curve on his lips looked very innocent and silly. She couldn't help but stare at him and follow along with a smile.

"So, are you willing to take responsibility for me?" He asked, watching her smiling lips change to a parted o shape before closing the small gap again. Patiently waiting for her response, he continued sitting silently. The smile on his face maintained as eye-catching as before.

After thinking to herself for a few minutes, she asked. "What kind of responsibility?"

Indeed, she was intelligent. The term 'responsibility' was never clarified. Did he mean taking responsibility for snatching his first kiss? Or did he mean fulfilling their childish engagement promise? Either way, she would have rejected because she had no recollection of this memory.

Leaning carefreely to the back of his chair, he answered. "Responsibility for signing your signature."

"Huh?" She blinked at him as if he had cracked a cold joke she didn't want to laugh at.

Nodding his head, he curved his body forward, folded his hands and cupped it against his knee cap. "Ever since you confessed to me, took away my first kiss and promised to be my bride; you've claimed me with your signature."

Brushing his thumb against his lips, another silly smile appeared on his face. His cheeks turned slightly red as he recalled the small peck she gave him from years ago. "For all these years, I've been searching for your whereabouts. This might sound exaggerated, but my heart only races for you."

"The joy I felt when I heard I've finally found you were like eating sweet glutinous rice balls with a mystery flavor inside of it. Once you bite into the round dessert, the flavor explodes in your mouth and blasts sweetness into your mouth. That is the closest description to how I felt when I thought about meeting you again."

His beautiful gem-like eyes looked more attractive each time she blinked while staring deep into it. Though his words were sugarcoated and flirtatious, she could see the emotions through his eyes. Anyone has the ability to say the most romantic lines, but only those who means it would have such lovely gaze.

If she said she wasn't moved, it would be a lie. Her heart had been pounding the moment she heard about their relationship. She had mixed thoughts and emotions right now. Her instincts told her he was definitely someone she knew, but a part of her also couldn't accept being his fiancée right after waking up.

"How do I know you're not lying to me? I don't remember anything right now. You can easily say anything and that could become the truth." She didn't want to give in so easily to his good looks and honeysuckle words.

"I can prove it." Standing up from his seat, he settled on the side of the bed. Slowly, he reached for her hand again. Subconsciously, she squinted her eyes closed and retreated backwards. She thought he was either going to kiss or hug her without any notice. His following actions proved her thoughts wrong as he tightened the grip on her hands.

After a few minutes of silence, she realized he hadn't done anything to her. When she squinted her eyes closed, she heard him whispering to Aaron. Shortly after, the sound of closed doors alerted her ears.

Peeking one eye opened, she questioned where Aaron had gone. "Where did he go?"

"He'll be back soon. Don't worry. When he comes back, I can prove I'm not lying."

While they waited for Aaron to come back, he felt the small movements of her fingers rubbing against each other. Since he had never approached girls before nor did he have experience coaxing one, he decided to retract his hand. 'She's nervous. Maybe because she's not used to a stranger approach her out of nowhere. After all, we haven't seen each other for years.'

Actually, when he touched her hands just now, he caught a hint of her discomfort. Therefore, he didn't want to force her hand against his chest. It'll be too quick and probably scare her off.

Soon, Aaron came back with a stethoscope in his hands. "Boss, I brought what you wanted."

Taking the telemonitoring tool from his hands, Jason smiled and carefully plugged the ear tips into her ears. "Comfortable?"

She nodded in response. While wondering how this tool would prove his words true, he unbuttoned the first few buttons until his shirt was wide enough for him to fit his hand inside. Without exposing much skin, he held the chest piece of the stethoscope between the distal part of his index and middle finger.

'Inconsistent... No..It's like dancing to a Hip-Hop tune! Like mine, but mine is a slower kind of dance.' As she listened to the rhythm of his heartbeats, her eyes continuously wandered back and forth from his eyes to chest. Like waves of the ocean, his heart sounded soothing as a lullaby. She felt safe and secure. 'Protective..' This word floated in her mind as she relaxed again.

"Is this convincing enough?" He asked after minutes had passed since she had begun listening to his heartbeats. It was his first time doing something like this, so he felt slightly embarrassed.

It took her a minute to figure out what he meant. This time, her body reacted faster than her mouth as she nodded to his question. His rapid heartbeats caught her full attention. 'He...really does like me..then..'

"So..are you taking responsibility for my heart condition?" He purposely mentioned heart after seeing her reaction towards listening to his heart rate. As soon as he started stuttering for this question, his heart blasted full speed.

She intentionally left a minute or two of quietness to observe his expressions. Even if his face could lie, his heart couldn't have done the same. 'He's either very excited or scared of my response..but he is quite interesting.'
