Kyla's Flashback 2

"You did what?!!" Jessica nearly choked on her boba milk tea when she heard Kyla's challenge with her father. Growing up, Kyla had never liked studying academics. Although she had the intelligence in math and science, she found it uninteresting. At first, everyone thought she lacked motivation, but later they discovered she had a talent in mathematics and science related subjects. As long as she reviews the content once, she could easily apply formulas and solve equations with no difficulties.

"Mhm. I told him if I get into Xavier University, then he needs to let me do what I want. If I don't, then I'll go overseas." Kyla removed a tissue from the tissue dispenser box on the table and placed it in Jessica's palm.

As Jessica wiped her lips, her lip gloss smudged on the smooth texture of the tissue. She folded it and rummaged through her purse for her lipstick. While searching for her lip product, her eyes were fixated on Kyla. "Then, what about my brother? Don't you like him? You confessed a handful of times during childhood, but were shot down with his sister and brother bullshit. Didn't you say you were planning on confessing again if you get into Wayne High school?"

She spoke as she took out her rose-gold floral compact mirror and uncapped her lipstick. Tracing the insides of her lip slowly and carefully, she filled the inner parts of her lips; creating a gradient look. She pressed her top lip against her bottom lip a few times before putting everything back into her purse.

Kyla bobbed her head twice and chewed on her boba before smiling like a lovestruck fool. "I am confessing to him. I'm just thinking about where I should tell him how I feel again. I used to tell him I like him, but I've decided to make it clearer this time. I'll tell him I love him more than a friend and brother."

Leaning back against her seat, Jessica tasted a blast of sweetness taking over her mouth even though it was less sweet a few minutes ago. She smirked at how innocent Kyla was blushing and gave her some pointers. "Well, if you want to confess, I suggest you do it fast. Or should I say, tonight?"

"Hmm? Why?" Kyla tilted her head slightly sideways, looking confused.

"Because he received his acceptance letter a few days ago and he is going to the university dormitory welcome night. It starts at eight at night, and there will be lots of girls his age too. If you plan to confess, you should do it before some girl lays their eyes on him. Not like he would be any bit interested in them anyway, but better to be safe than sorry. Right?" Jessica purposely disclosed this piece of information to her.

"Say what?! We're going tonight, then!" Kyla stood up abruptly, forgetting they were still in public. When she slammed her palm against the glass table, everyone turned their attention on her. She shyly scratched the back of her head and sat back down.

That night, for the first time ever, the girls snuck out of their houses and met up in front of Xavier University. Before blending in with a crowd of university students, Kyla made Jessica promise to not tell Isaac about the bet she had with her father. Although Kyla and Jessica were high schoolers, they were tall enough to look like they were incoming freshmen.

Strolling down a crowded hallway, Kyla squeezed through groups of students. "Are you sure it is here?" She asked Jessica for the fifth time.

"I'm pretty sure I saw Room 305 on his letter. Hmm, it should be here." Jessica looked at the increasing odd numbers on the doors and dragged Kyla further down the hall. Seeing an open door to one of the dorms, Jessica smiled. "I hear my brother's voice! Let's go!"

Both of them peeked into the room to see if they could find Isaac. As she had expected, her brother was chilling on the bed with his new roommates. In the following seconds, her smile froze. 'Why do I hear girls giggling?'

From behind, a deep male voice startled the girls. "What are you girls doing? Are you looking for someone?"

The girls looked at the tall university student with a friendly smile and blushed embarrassingly. "Uhm, I'm Isaac's sister."

"Yo! Isaac! Your sister is here!" Right after hearing who the girls were looking for, he announced it as he entered the room. Immediately, Isaac lifted his head with a stunned look on his face. He didn't expect to see any of their faces!

"What are you two doing here?" Isaac asked, looking surprised.

Jessica cleared her throat, patted Kyla's back lightly and gave her a small push. When Kyla peeked in from the hallway, the door had blocked off everything on the left side of the room. Now that she stepped to the center, she saw two pretty girls lazily sitting on a separate bed opposite of where Isaac was sitting.

Her eyes widened as the amount of courage she had to confess suddenly surpassed her own fear of receiving another rejection. She breathed in deeply and folded her hands loosely in front of her torso. Gazing affectionately into Isaac's eyes from where she stood, she confessed.

"Isaac, I loved you since we were this tall." Her right arm could be seen trembling from nervousness. She swayed her palm on the side of her thighs reminiscing their height back then. A smile slowly curved on her lips as she continued speaking. "The many confessions I've made in the past have never been cleared up, so I want to tell you how I truly feel right now."

She exhaled deeply. "I love you, not as a friend nor a brother. I love you for who you are. This feeling is the love between a man and a woman. I figured that you wouldn't take me seriously because I was still in middle school, but now I'm in high school. So, I gathered my courage today to tell you how I feel."

The room turned quiet after these words escaped her mouth. Everyone's eyes were laid on Isaac's evolving expression. His lips finally parted after minutes of silence. "I...I.."
