Kyla's Flashback 1

- Flashback -

The birds chirped loudly by the girl's bedroom window. With her palms clapped tightly closed in front of her lowered head, she mumbled. "The god or goddess of learning, please bless this mighty follower's extreme pray. It's the matter of life and death. The school's response is inside this envelope. Please let it be an acceptance letter! Please! Please! Please! I swear I'll study my ass off! I won't read romance novels from my phone nor comics for half an hour less every day of my high school life if I get in! Please!"

She clapped twice, imitating the animations she has watched on YouTube when the characters prayed for blessings. The only difference is that she was saying her prayers to the white envelope with a rose stamp on the top left corner instead doing it at a Japan temple.

Butterflies sped crazily in her stomach as she tore open the seal of the envelope. Taking in a deep breath, she could feel her heart thumping erratically against her ribcage. She squeezed her eyes tight and pulled out the letter. She peeked using one eye and read the first line.

"Dear, Miss. Kyla Os... Congratulations! It is my pleasure to welcome you to Wayne High School for the upcoming 20xx-20xx academic year...I...got in. I got in! I got in! I got in!!! Mom!!! Dad!!! I got in!!" Kyla waved her acceptance letter in the air like a pirate holding their ship's flag. Her voice scared away the birds outside her room as she announced to the world she has successfully gotten into her ideal high school!

Like a child dreaming of unicorns and candy land, Kyla excitedly pulled open the bedroom door and rushed down two floors to reach the kitchen! Her slippers flew off her feet as she failed to stop herself from sliding across the hall. She spread her arms in opposite directions and did a half-split to prevent herself from slamming into the wall.

The excitement on her face couldn't be contained as she searched for the two persons she wanted to tell first. Initially, she planned on announcing this good news to her parents with a broad smile across her face. But the smile on her face curved upside down when she heard voices coming from the living room.

Though she only eavesdropped a few words from each sentence, she could clearly complete the missing puzzle in her mind. She could care less about her crooked pajamas, bare feet touching the cold floor and the conversation she was about to interrupt. At this moment, all that mattered to her was the ignited flame in her heart to fight for her future!

She turned the golden knob and pushed the burgundy door open. Her parents raised their heads to meet her deep frown and disappointment. "Why? Didn't you two promise to let me do what I want? I don't have the qualities to be a bodyguard! I'm good at what I'm doing! Why did you two not ask me before deciding to send me abroad once my high school ends?!"

"Kyla, is that how you greet your father and mother? Where are the manners I've taught you? Besides, didn't you come down to tell us the results from your idea high school? How could you eavesdrop on us and give us such a temper?" Kyla's father, Axel Os shook his head disapprovingly.

"Yes! I came down to tell you that I got admitted to my ideal high school! I was planning on telling you such great news and accidentally overheard you and mother's conversation. I apologize for that, but this does not give any of you rights to send me off or plan my future! You promised to give me freedom!" Her chest weighed heavily and head started to spin from anger.

Seeing how red Kyla's cheeks flushed, her mother, Ruby Os tried calming her down. "Honey. Honey. Your father and I have decided to send you overseas because you have to continue our family career. We've been working for the Wangs, and your father placed his hopes on you. Even though you lacked physical strength, it doesn't mean you can't be trained. Nobody is born as a talent. They practice. Besides, you still have three years and a half left before we send you overseas."

Kyla's lips twitched as her eyes heated in frustration. "Mom! Dad! This is my life, not yours. Other than being a bodyguard, I could accomplish many things in my life! You're sending me to a private academy for training bodyguards because you want that. I know what's best for myself! I want to continue education here. I want to finish high school and attend Xavier University!"

Immediately upon hearing her speak about Xavier University, Axel slammed his fist against the table and raised his arm in the air. He wanted to scare her and make her submit to him, but unexpectedly, she didn't budge. Her eyes sparked with passion with an unwavering determination. She wasn't the little girl who would duck at the sight of his fist swing anymore.

"You only want to attend Xavier University because of Isaac, but you two won't be together. You two don't match. He is from a rich family and Madam Wang already set lines of blind dates for him to attend. Rather than wasting your youth on one man, you should focus on a potential career." His arms fell down to his thighs as he sat back on the couch.

"Then, dad. Let's have a deal. You always looked down on me because of my grades and lack of physical strength in combat. For my future, I will spend the next three years on studying. I will prove you're wrong. I can fulfill my dreams as long as I try. If I get into Xavier University in three years, you will let me go my way. If I don't, then I will be obedient and follow your plans."

Kyla crossed her arms as she proposed a daring challenge to her father. Shooting dagger stares at her eyes, Axel surrendered to her idea. "Alright. Let's see what you could do in the next three years."
