Chasing after the Velvet monkeys was exhausting. They were constantly moving from tree to tree, making fun of us as we tried to catch up. Every time I would get close to them I would throw a ball of fire but they would simply dodge it with ease and then get farther away from us.
We were running for about 30 minutes and my stamina was just about to run out. This body is not able to run this long but i pushed it really hard. Damn it! What can I do to get those little bastards? I kept on thinking about what I could do to catch the little bastards. I then remembered that I have an affinity for life which includes nature at its core.
"Alice! IK have an idea."
"Well anything would be good right about now."
"I need you to trust me and stop for a minute."
"The hell are you thinking?!" Alice screamed and stopped running. At least I got her to stop, right? We started arguing in the middle of the woods about stopping even though we already stopped. The entire time we were talking, the monkeys were starting to creep closer to us. Snickering at us they hopped from tree to tree around where we were standing.
While everyone was doing this, I went silent and focused on the life surrounding me. Once I figured out where the monkeys were, I placed small vine traps so the velvet monkeys will get caught up. After planting them all around the branches, i contintued to try and calm down Alice, who was still ranting about my stupid ideas.
The monkeys then rotated where they were perched and got caught up in m traps. I immediately put my finger on Alice's soft lips. "Hush will ya? I just set up a trap for the monkeys with my life affinity. Thanks to you I caught all of them. Come and help me kill them so we can dinnish this stupid quest."
"Wait, you did what?! How could you not tell me?"
"Cause you were busy yelling at me on how stupid my ideas were, even though they actually work. Now will you listen to me for once?" Alice gave a small grimace and then quietly listened to what I had to say.
"Good. Now I have these velvet monkeys in my traps that I created with my life affinity. They were busy hopping around from tree to tree making fun of our arguing. The entire time they didn't notice I was creating vine traps. I finally got them caught and now i need your help to finally kill them so we can go back and rest somewhere. Please?" I said the last word with a calm and kind voice. I didn't want her to hate me for what I said. I care here even if I don't show it.
Alice's stern face softened and she then proceeded to walk over to where one of the monkeys was screeching. She then climbed up the tree and swiftly slit its neck, quickly silencing it. I then went over to another tree and slit the throat of another beast. This proceeded on for a couple of minutes in silence except for the screeching of the velvet monkeys.
I finally felt some sort of connection with Alice rather than us just being people who have to deal with each other. Now I feel like we are true colleagues. Not quite friends but unusual acquaintances. It worked for me so that's ok for now. Though I do hope that we grow closer as time goes by.
After we killed all of the monkeys we put them into a pile and counted 6 of them all together. The quest only said to find only 4 so the extra we should sell for some extra coin. That works out well. We put them up in a net and worked together to carry them back to the town.
It took a while, and we were tired since it was still night time, but when the sun began to rise, we finally arrived back to town. It only took us a whole day to complete our quest. Pretty good right? That was another thing I was wrong about. Turns out people just camp out near the edge of the forest and set up traps for the stupid monkeys to walk right into the traps. It only takes them one night for them to complete a quest like this.
We arrived at the guildhall and turned in our quest items and got some extra money for the 2 extra monkeys we killed. We then proceeded to find a place to rest. A room normally costs only 30 copper per room for one week and costs a bit more for food. We easily found a place to rest and bought a room with a board for one night. We now have 46 silver and 84 copper left. Of course i ended up being the one to carry the money because alice actually is really bad with numbers. Hahaha!
Oh and it turns out that there was only one bed in the room since it was the last one. That's right people! I'm stuck on the floor. Alice immediately pushed me away from the bed and jumped on it to claim it as hers. Oh well. Guess that is all for today. We will start again tomorrow morning. goodnight
