|3: DO I KNOW YOU?|

|JUNE|

"Bye-bye," I waved as I watched Odette walk away with her nursery teacher. She seemed happy and got used to going to the nursery for eight hours where Wendy would pick her up and bring her home. Wendy would stay with her until I got back and Odette would try to tell me about her day. It is so cute to watch her fuss over her mistakes.

She said she had fun and couldn't wait to go back. She would tell me about her friends she made and she likes them. Yesterday, I told her that she couldn't have a boyfriend, her reply was, 'I don't care about boys except for Papa, Andy, and Ken', aka, Kennedy. I was so proud of her that I hugged tight until she squirmed and tried to run away from me. She was just a little ball of happiness and I couldn't live without her. I was glad they Joan made me Odette's legal guardian.

I walked out the bedroom and looked at the mess in the living room where Odette's toys laid everywhere. I sighed and made my way to the living room and quickly picked up the toys and put them in a basket before making my over to the kitchen to make breakfast. It was about eight am and I didn't have work today but Odette still had day care so I had to get her ready. Which was a problem because she wasn't a morning person, just like her mother. I closed my eyes because I didn't want to think about her death. This was one of the moment where I felt powerless and couldn't do anything for her but wait outside until they got her body prepared.

When I a small pitter patter of footsteps which snapped me out of my thoughts. "Papa?" I heard a small voice.

"In the kitchen, baby." I called out a little quietly so I didn't startle her.

"Hunwy, papa." She mumbled the moment she saw me. I smiled and picked her up.

"Sorry baby. I should've made breakfast earlier. Why don't I help you brush your teeth and then we can have breakfast together?" I started walking towards the bathroom with her in my arms. I put her down on they counter and grabbed the toddler toothpaste and squirted a dot on her toothbrush before handing it to her. Then I grabbed mine and we both brushed our teeth together. When I was done I washed my face and helped Odette wash hers.

When we were both finished, we walked to the dinner table. Odette still needed her high chair, so I carefully put her in and put down the bowl with small pies of chicken strips and a smaller bowl with cut fruits. I got my breakfast with was yogurt with fruits and cereal. As we both finished I grabbed the orange juice and poured it into her soppy cup and in a glass for me. "Thank you," she spoke the words clearly and it surprised me. Since he's been going to the nursery she has been learning how to speak more clearly and it brought tears of happiness form me.

"You're welcome, babe." I smiled. Sitting down we both drank the orange juice quietly. "Finished?"

Odette nodded and I took the cup from her and put it in the dish washer. I had to do the dishes anyway so I'll just do them at night and dry them in the morning. "Scthool?" She asked as she went in her room and grabbed her backpack. I grabbed her lunch bag and my work bag.

"Yes," I laughed as I put on my jacket and shoes. "Do you need help with that?"

"No, big girl." She answered as she concentrated on putting on her shoes. When she was finally done she eloped up with huge grin.

"You're growing up too fast." I pouted making her giggling. We walked out the door and I locked the door before helping Odette down the stairs to the car.

I carefully buckled her in her car seat and then put their backpack in the backseat before walking to the driver's seat and started the engine then putting on my seatbelt. Driving to the nursery was short and quick. I dropped her off and drove to my work place.

Odette didn't make any fuss since she was costumed to going to the nursery.

I walked inside the building and made my way to the front desk since I didn't know which floor I would be working on. "Hi," I greeted the man there. He had brown hair and tanned skin. When he turned to me, I saw his eyes were deep chocolate brown. He had smooth skin and a bit of freaked under his eyes.

He smiled at me. "Hello, how may I help you?" He seemed friendly and polite.

"Hi, I'm June Anderson, the new IT guy." I smiled. I was sweating a bit and my face felt a little hot. "It's my first day and I don't know how to get to the floor."

"That's okay, I'll get someone to help you right away. Give me a sec." The nice receptionist replied. I nodded before he turned away and dialed numbers into the wired phone. "Yes, this is Evan from the front desk. Can you pass it to Mr. Briggs? His new employee is here. 'Kay, thanks."

The call ended and the receptionist, Evan, looked at me. "Mr. Briggs will be right with you in a few." He told me.

"Thank you," I whispered but loud enough for him to hear it.

"No prob." He smiled. "My name's Evan Lakes, by the way."

"Nice you meet you," I reached out my hand but she stood up and I was a bit surprised that he was a few inches taller than me. He brought his arms around me and hugged me. It felt awkward so I hugged him back.

"If you have any trouble, you can always come to me." He winked as he let go. I nodded and looked around. It was a nice and clean interior. The design was modern but it also gave off an old fashion vive which I couldn't explain. As I looking around I saw people looking at me or going about their business. I looked away when I caught a woman's eyes and turned back to see a tall man standing right beside me. "Mr. Briggs. You're early today." Evan joked. When Mr. Briggs didn't laugh, much less smile he tuned to me. "This is your new worker, and this is the head of the IT department."

"Nice you meet you, Sir. I am June Anderson." I reached out my hand but Mr. Briggs just looked at it and then turned away. He started walking to the elevator as I walked there awkwardly.

He pressed the the bottom for the twelfth floor before stepping back. His back was facing me and I looked down at my feet, it felt awkward but I wouldn't be forced out like that. I needed the job and worked my ass off for it. I wasn't going to give up just because he didn't pay attention to me. Wait, why did I want him to pay attention to me? I thought as I was bit shocked. "We're here." His deep voice alerted me.

I nodded and got off the elevator after him. We walked through the office cubicles and then stopped at an empty one. He pointed to it and said, "this one is yours. If you have a problem don't bother me. You can speak to Mrs. Heliburn." With that he walked away and I looked at his back.

I quietly sat down and looked around the label. It was empty but I would fill it in no time, if I lasted long. "That was the nicest I've seen the boss be." I heard a female voice and when I looked up I saw a woman with brown hair and black eyes. She was wearing glasses but it made her look even more beautiful. "Name's Sandra, What about you cutie?" She winked at me.

"June Anderson. Nice to meet you." I smiled as I stood up to shake her hand.

"Welcome to the IT of Kerver Inc." She smiled and shook my hand. "Don't mind the boss, he's always been like this."

"Seems like he has a stick up his ass." I mumbled but she heard me and laughed loudly. That made some of the others look at us.

"Oh my god!" She yelled as she patted the corner of her eyes. "Wow, never thought someone new would say that. That was funny."

I smiled with as I felt the blush raising up my neck. The tip of my ears were burning. "New guys?" A man said behind me and I turned to see a handsome man with curly long hair, in a black suit smile at us. "I'm Johan, welcome to the IT department. Mr. Briggs asked me to help you settle in."

"Thank you." I smiled and we conversed a little before getting to work.

Most of the work wasn't hard since I had done some this during an internship when I was in college. The work was similar and I got the hang of it pretty soon. I was given a simple task and as I was doing it, Sandra popped up said, "it's break time. Let's get something to eat." I nodded and clicked save on the computer before putting it sleep and getting up. I didn't need some to come here and mess it up, like someone did during my internship. I wasn't going to make the same mistake ever again.

"Where are we going?" I asked as we walked to the elevator. The moment the door opened, we saw Mr. Briggs standing there. Sandra and I both greeted him.

"Going to lunch, Mr. Briggs?" Sandra asked cheerfully.

"Yes." He answered curtly. I didn't say anything because it seemed like he hated me or something. Then again, how can he when we've never met before. "New guy, follow me."

"What?!" I yelled because I was shocked that he actually told me to follow him. "Sorry, that was rude. You want me to follow you?"

He nodded and Sandra looked at us skeptically. I looked at him scared because maybe I had done something wrong and he was going to tell me that I was fired. Fired on my first day seemed like the shittest way to be fired. When the elevator stopped Mr. Briggs walked out and I reluctantly followed.

We walked down the side walk and the nearest restaurant. "Table for two." He spoke shortly and the receptionist nodded before grabbing two menus and bringing us to a table. We sat down and she said she would be back to take our orders.

I looked through the menu quietly because I was afraid that if I made any sound, Mr. Briggs would yell at me. When the waitress came back we both ordered. While we were waiting for our food, I looked around. I was trying to keep my eyes off of Mr. Briggs. "Umm, did I do something wrong, sir?" I asked after a while since the silence was killing me.

"No," he answered while looking at me and then his lap.

"Then why-" I was about to ask but was cut off by him.

"Do I know you from somewhere?" He asked while staring at me. It felt like he was staring at my soul and all I wanted to do was get up and run away. His yellow eyes were very enticing.

"I don't think so. Today is the first time we met." I answered. He nodded and when our food came we ate quietly. When it was time to pay, I took out my wallet and was about to pay for it but he insisted that he should pay since he invited me. Ha, more like demanded me. I laughed on the inside.

We went back and the rest of the day was fine. It was seven when I got off work and quickly made my way to my car to drive home. I already asked Wendy to pick up Odette since she got off at four. She probably made dinner because it was my first day.

I unlocked the door, before I could take off my shoes, I heard little footsteps coming my way and a tiny force hugging my legs. "I'm back, baby." I laughed as I picked Odette up before taking off my shoes and socks. We made our way to the living room where I put her down and went to the bathroom to freshen up. When I came out, Wendy greeted me.

"How was work?" She asked as we ate dinner on the dining table. "Any hot men or women?"

I laughed and nodded. "Yeah, plenty. But my boss is a bit of an...ass." I shrugged as I dug into my steak.

"Oh, I see a great love story starting." Wendy joked and I shook my head. She was a big fan Boy's Love.

"I'm too scared to even look at him. And no, don't start." I cut her off before she spoke about one of her crazy fantasy. "Thank you for taking care of Odette."

"No prob," she smiled and cut pieces of fruits to put it on Odette's plate. "She's like my daughter too."

Wendy had to leave after dinner and I had to put Odette to sleep since it was already nine pm. I locked the door after bidding Wendy goodbye and made my way to Odette's bedroom where laid her down and read a bedtime story until she fell asleep. I smiled at her and kissed her forehead before getting up and shutting off the light and turning on the night light.

I made my way to my bedroom and opened my laptop to check my emails and do some work. I sighed and looked at the clock to notice that it was already ten fifty four pm. "I should get some sleep." I mumbled as I shut my laptop and made my way to the bathroom to brush, floss and use the mouthwash. I couldn't sleep well if I didn't do my routine.

I walked back to my bed when I was done and looked at my phone for while. I opened the Photo app and went through all the pictures. I looked at Odette pictures from few weeks ago at the park and gasped when I saw his eyes. That couldn't be, I thought as I brushed it off. It was all a coincidence, there are many people with bright hazel eyes.

I didn't think about it too much and went to bed because I had work the next day and needed to sleep.
