Weird Glances

It has been a week since that day and Penelope is upset. Why didn't he say anything? He could have said no but why? She is too preoccupied that she didn't notice her friend Dana was calling her for several times not until she was smacked in the head. She hissed at the pain and looked up to see Dana, hands on her waist and one brow raise up.

"I've been calling you Penelope and you are just too damn preoccupied. What happen? And it's weird you suddenly here in the cafeteria. For I know you are already in the forest with that guy, having lunch. Did you two fight? "sometimes Penelope just wants to punch Dana, because everything that Dana says is true.

"I dunno. If that's what you call a fight, I guess." Penelope said and took a sip on her coffee expressionlessly.

"Oh, tell me what happened, Loffie." and then she sat in front of her and started eating her lunch.

"Well, I kinda ask him to go out, but he didn't answer me back."

"Oh my gosh Loffie, did you just got rejected? By a guy? Seriously?" and after that Dana just can't stop laughing.

"Can you please stop? Your laugh is getting annoying."

"Ha-ha! Well, well, our Loffie is so devastated. Oh, let me meet the guy sometimes! I'll help ya! Do you have his picture? And oh, is he handsome?"

"Speaking of the picture, we in fact don't have pictures of two of us yet and yeah he is undeniably good-looking."

"Oh, it makes me want to see him more. Can I meet him? Let's meet him today. I know you are dying to see him just by looking at your gloomy expression."

"Grr, will you please stop?"

"Alright, alright. Let's go."

"So, where is he?" Dana asked when they are already in the big tree where they usually are. Penelope furrowed her eyebrows as her eyes roamed around the place, looking for something that could be him.

"Well, that was strange. He is always here in this spot, sitting."

"meh your guy is so coward."

"Don't say that!"

"Oh well, if that guy doesn't really want to show up. I guess you could take a picture."

"Yeah, I guess."

"Oh, by the way, what's his name?"

"Oh, his name? Trevor Lee."

"Eh?" Penelope looked at Dana. Dana's expression suddenly became gloomy as she mentioned that name. "Is something wrong Dana?" still the latter doesn't respond, and the former walked towards her. She suddenly gazed up on her and said –" Loffie, I- that was a cool name. I want to meet him someday. Can you inform him that?"

"Sure Dana." The young lady with furrowed eyebrows, watched Dana disappeared through the woods. "What's wrong with her?". She was about to turn around when cold hands circled around her waist. She smiled at the feeling, why is it felt cold, but soothing in some way. "I know it's you, Trevor." The guy just chuckled, then turned her around to face her. They just stared with each other's calm eyes when Trevor breaks the silence. "How are you?"

"I'm fine." The brunet nodded, then suddenly hugged Penelope which the young lady caught off guard. She awkwardly places both of her arms around the brunet's back and patted lightly. "Are you okay, Trevor?"

"Yes, I'm just, I miss you." Penelope again can't utter a single word because of the pounding of her heart. This guy is really annoying her. How come he is so easy to make her heart go wild and feel somersault into her stomach?

"H-hey Loffie, if you really want that-," he stuttered and stopped for a moment. Trevor then back away a little, eyes avoiding Penelope's contact as he played with his finger. "Hmm. If you really want us to go out, then uh. Then it's fine, I'll go with you."

"Really?" Penelope can't believe this. After a week of silence between the two, but suddenly Trevor just ask her out. Is she dreaming?

"Yes, but I only have one condition please." Trevor's expression turned serious which made Penelope halts her enjoyment for a moment.

"What is it?"

"Wherever we go, don't talk to me, but only here. Can you promise me that?"

"That is absurd, Trevor!"

"I know I know, please trust me, just hold onto my hand." Trevor again hugged her tightly. Penelope can sense that this hug is much different than the rest. More like it signifies worry or care?

"Alright, if you say so. Trevor"

"I'm glad Loffie, very glad and please don't do that again, not coming by here by lunch. It makes my heart hurt so much."

"Ha-ha, okay. So, we're a couple now?"

"Yes, Loffie we are. We are always."

...

Penelope happily skips through the school corridor as she recalled their date at the amusement park a few weeks ago. Even though they do not speak on each other as Trevor requested, still they enjoyed each other's company and warmth. Nevertheless, the young lady, however, finds it odd why Trevor does want them to speak in public.

Again, her curiosity blooms as questions piled up on her head about Trevor. Also, she did notice why people look at them weirdly when they are dating back in the amusement park. But she merely shrugged those all off because what matters in her mind is to be with Trevor. She entered their classroom with a smile on her face as she sat beside Dana, who is looking at her intently. The young lady sensed this and asked "what's the matter? You have been acting weird since this past few days."

"Loffie, who are you with at the amusement park on the other day?" Dana suddenly asked.

"Oh? I am with Trevor."

"I see." A pregnant pause fills the two of them as they don't dare to speak up until Dana again spoke up.

"Trevor Lee, the honor student back then with excellent academic performance and was formerly featured in a theatrical play. He was so good in his acting skill that he became popular among girls in this school. Sadly, he suddenly became delinquent and reserved. What do you think what happened to him Loffie? Aren't you curious?"

"What the? How come you know all this Dana? Is there something you aren't telling me?"

"I managed to look up at the student files just because I'm curious about this Trevor guy you kept blabbering about for insanely months! I'm just worried what was happening to my best friend."

"You don't have to worry, everything about me Dana. I am fine. I would really like you to meet Trevor someday, but he doesn't want to. I don't know why."

"Hmm. How come he only wants to see you? I told you Loffie. He is a delinquent, which means he's a dangerous guy. Didn't I tell you not to get attached to him? You are so stubborn!"

"Can you just please stop sticking your nose into other's business? I don't know that you are jealous!"

"I'm not jealous Loffie. I just fucking care about you."

"Whatever!!"

They don't speak to each other after that. Penelope just continued what was her usual doing whenever she has free time or when it is lunch break, to meet Trevor. Nothing much happened between the two, but just the two hearts bond getting stronger and tighter. Somehow, Penelope had known this feeling, something that she felt for years but can't decipher what it is. Also, Penelope is starting to get irritated when students happened to pass by the forest and looked at them strangely like they are freaks. Penelope angrily tossed a rock over the river out of frustration.

"Why are they always looking at us like that? Are we that weird Trevor?" Trevor holds her hands and let her sit on the tree. Penelope leaned over his chest as Trevor enveloped her with his big arms as they hold each other's hand.

"They just don't understand us Loffie."

"I guess so, your hands are always cold Trevor. How come?"

"Ha-ha, that doesn't matter now. What matters is us."

"Trevor, I would like you to meet my best friend someday. She is dying to see you, you know."

"I can't Loffie."

"Alright, but how we take a picture then? We haven't taken a single picture of both of us!"

"I can't that too, Loffie."

"Again? Why Trevor? You also don't want us to go in public except that one we dated back at the amusement park, yet you told me not to dare to speak to you on that time. Why are you doing this Trevor? I absolutely found it odd. You are acting weird. Is there something you aren't also not telling me? You both Dana are so mysterious!"

"Don't make a huge fuss over it Loffie, just focus on the two of us. Let others what they think."

"I seriously don't understand you Trevor. I seriously don't."
