Playing With My Mate

"Why are we here?" Roselyn found herself asking as she looked around the empty hallway, not a single soul had been seen on their way to the library.

At this point, she really wondered if anyone was even present in the Academy other than her and Xander.

Xander handed her a parchment before replying, "You aren't like the other students here. Unlike them, you do not know anything about our realm. You will need more books to get all the needed knowledge. This..."

He pointed at the parchment in her hand before continuing, "... is the list of books you will need. Go and get those from the library. I'll be back to pick you up in half an hour."

"Where are you going?" She couldn't help herself from asking even though she was feeling really happy to finally get some alone time.

The elf took a step closer to her and almost invaded the bubble of her personal space. It took Roselyn a lot of effort not to step back. She stared back into his beautiful emerald eyes, challenging him.

A small twitch appeared on his lips as he spoke, "I have other important things to handle too, little butterfly. More important than babysitting you all day and night."

Roselyn opened her mouth but then closed it. Words seemed to have abandoned her completely as she was unable to say anything in response to the insults that the man just threw at her. She wasn't sure what triggered her more - the babysitting part or the fact that he called her a butterfly.

She clutched the paper tightly in her fist before turning around and heading inside the library since Xander had already left.

If she thought that the library entrance was grand then she was in for a huge surprise when she finally got to see the inside. The place was so huge that she could almost compare it to a football field. Rows and rows of shelves lined with thousands and thousands of books.

Chandeliers of firestones hung from the ceiling, illuminating the entire place, and once again she found the place completely empty except for the young woman who sat at a high table right in front of the entrance and a couple of dark fairies that were flying around the shelves doing their work.

The woman sitting behind the reception desk looked up in her direction with her charming blue eyes before she spoke, "Can I help you, my dear?"

Roselyn hurriedly moved closer to the reception desk as she bowed in greetings before replying, "Hello, I'm a first-year student and looking for a couple of books to borrow." She handed the crumpled parchment to the young woman who gave her a questioning look after seeing the state of the paper.

Other than giving a sheepish smile in return, there wasn't much Roselyn could do to explain, so she just remained silent as she handed her library pass to the woman.

"Ms. Lightwood." The woman spoke as she checked the ID. "Since this is your first time here, one of the fairies will guide you around the library. I'm Kylie, you can call me Ms. Kylie. I'm Madame Adelaide's assistant."

Roselyn bowed again to greet the young woman before she took the parchment back from Ms. Kylie and followed the dark fairy who led her toward one of the farthest northwest sections.

The little fairy fluttered around two of the long rows of bookshelves, to give an idea about where she could find all the books mentioned on her list, before it disappeared.

A long sigh left Roselyn's lips as she stared at the floor-to-ceiling shelves packed with books. At this point, she wondered if she would be able to find the books on her list at all, let alone in half an hour.

She took a look at the parchment in her hand and another sigh left her lips. She moved to search for the first book on her list.

"Tsk tsk! You are such a miserable soul."

The familiar but unexpected voice had her turning around in alarm, her fingers clenching in a fist in order to call her powers while her eyes landed on the person standing in front of her with his back pressed against the opposite shelf.

The Vampire arched his eyebrows high as his gaze landed on her clenched fist, probably mocking her for forgetting that she was in no position to get access to her elemental powers.

"What are you doing here?" She asked as she glared at the man. It was the perfect chance for revenge but unfortunately, she had no access to her powers and she was no match for him in her current state.

But that didn't mean she would let him go so easily. She would definitely take her revenge but that would need a perfect plan and a little bit of more time.

Kaito smirked as he took steps closer in her direction. "Why? Am I not even allowed to come to the library?"

He only stopped when they were standing right in front of each other with minimum space left between them. He had successfully invaded the bubble of her personal space. His aura intimidating but still not able to make her step back.

"Besides, this is my world. I can go wherever I want, whenever I want." His low voice entered her ears and made her glare even more fiercely at him.

Letting out a scoff, she turned around and stepped away to continue looking for the books, she didn't have much time to waste on unnecessary people.

Barely a couple of seconds later, she felt him move again and the next moment, one of his arms was making its way around her waist. Since she was wearing a crop top, his skin made direct contact with her bare waist before his hand came to rest over her belly.

"What are you doing?" She tried to get out of his hold but the man only pulled her closer to him, making her face him as he pressed her against the bookshelf.

"Playing with my mate." He answered with his signature smirk before his lips suddenly found hers.
