Your mother hates me!

"Honk!" Jackson jumped out of his sleep when he heard the noise of a car outside their house. He turned to wake Jennie up, but she was not in bed, nor was she in the room. "No, no, no! Please don't be doing what I think you are doing!" Jackson said, getting out of his bed with a pair of white socks, a boxer, and gray underwear.

Jennie heard her husband's footsteps running toward the kitchen. "Good morning, babe!" Jennie said with a whisk in her hand and some tomato paste on her cheek when he enters the kitchen. "What are you doing, honey?" Jackson asked. Jennie thought he was kidding with his silly question. "I am making breakfast for mom!" She replied.

Jackson rushed to Jennie. He took off her apron, removed her hair cover, put some saliva on the tip of his finger, and cleaned her cheek. Jackson then fixed her messy hair and fastened the two loose buttons on her shirt. At that moment, the doorbell rang. "Mom is here. Please go downstairs and open the front door for her. I will finish up here." He said. Jennie was about to leave when she stopped.

"Why can't I finish up and you go?" Jennie asked. She was not happy that her husband marched in and took over her kitchen without giving her a valid explanation as to why he did.

"Mom knows that you can't cook anything, not even fried eggs. For the four years we were in a relationship, she understood that. And in the eight years we've been married, my mother has concluded on the fact that you can't cook, and she has accepted that reality. I may have trusted that you learned how to cook because you wanted to learn, but mom will not just assume. She will need answers, dates, and reasons." Jackson informed Jennie. Then, he turned to the stove and tasted the gravy for the pasta. Jennie still did not understand what her husband was getting at.

"And?" She asked, folding her hands. Jackson shifts around with the cooking spoon in his hand. "However, you have not provided me with this information for some thought that is best known to yourself, and I am positive that you will not present her with anything sensible either. I may not care, but my mother will. I don't want your bumping heads. I have enough on my plate as it is. Now can you please open it for her before she breaks down my door." He stated.

Jennie walked out without replying. "Thank you, and I love you!" Jackson screamed. Then he when on with his cooking. Jennie has done most of the work, so it took him a few minutes to get everything ready. Jackson could hear the sounds of people chatting in their house. "Here we go." He murmurs with a sigh. He was about to carry the food into the dining hall when he realized that he only had on a boxer and underwear.

Jackson ran out of the kitchen. Jennie smiled at her mother-in-law as she sat down on the sofa with a frown. "Can I get anything for you, mom?" Jennie asked nervously and leaned against the wall. "Can you get me, my son!" Rose answered. Jennie lifted from on the wall immediately. "Yes, mom." She replied in a humble tone.

Jennie was about to head to the kitchen when she heard footsteps through the hall. "Is that my son?" Rose said, standing up from the sofa. "Yes, mom!" Jennie replied as she wondered why her husband was making so much noise. "Why does it sound like he is running?" Rose asked, following the racket. Jennie felt stressed. Having her mother-in-law over is not always an effortless task for the daughter-in-law. "I don't know, mom," Jennie answered as she followed Rose.

"What do you mean you don't know? He is your husband, after all!" Rose screamed. Jennie did not know how to answer, so she did not respond. "I am talking to you, young lady! Not to a wall!" Rose continued with her complaint.

It frustrated Jennie that her good daughter-in-law's act was not working. "Why don't you ask your son when you see him?" She answered, raising her voice a bit louder. Rose turned around in shock and pointed her finger in Jennie's face. "Do not take that tone with me, young lady." She replied. Jennie kept quiet and continued following her mother-in-law.

Rose stopped at Jackson and Jennie's bedroom door and opened it. "Hey, mama!" Jackson said with an embarrassing expression, as one of his feet was in his jogger pants while the other was outside. "Boy, you scared the hell out of me. I thought something happened, that's why you were running." Rose said as she witnessed her son standing next to the bed with a pile of clothes near him.

"Nothing happened, mom. I only want to wear pants since it will be inappropriate walking around the house in a boxer with you here." Jackson stated, putting his other leg in his trouser. "Son, what are you trying to hide? Everything you have now, I have already seen it." Rose replied, teasing her son.

"Did I show you his naked baby pictures?" She asked Jennie, who was standing next to the door, striving her best not to get too involved. "You show me a few." She answers. Rose stared at Jennie with excitement in her eyes. "I have others on my phone. I will send them to you later on today for you to view. Oh, he had the cutest butt cheeks!" She replied. Jennie gave a tense smile and looked away.

"Okay, mom. Enough of my naked baby buttock. Let's go downstairs and have a lovely breakfast." Jackson announces as he ushers his mother and wife out of the room with him behind them. He led them into the dining hall and went into the kitchen for the food. Rose eyed her daughter-in-law, and Jennie stood up from the chair. "I will go to help him." She stated and followed her husband.

"Honey, what are you doing here? I can handle things. Go back to the dining room and relax. I will be with you guys shortly." Jackson said when he saw his wife in the kitchen. "I feel like your mother doesn't like me!" Jennie said as she took the plates out of the cupboard.

Jackson turned to her in confusion. "Why would you even say that? My mother adores you. She has always taken your side in every argument we have had and showered you with affection more than her son. My mother always wanted a girl child, but she never got pregnant again after she had me. That's one reason she loves you and Steven unconditionally and will accept any friend I have. You know all about this, babe." Jackson reminded his spouse.

Jennie took the silverware set and wrapped it in elegant yellow napkins.

"I know, babe. Maybe she hates me because I have not given her a grandchild all these years. And now she can't stand the sight of me. Mom has been talking harshly to me since she arrived." Jennie said as she started tearing up.

"Don't say such a thing, hubby. Stop creating issues that do not exist." Jackson warned her. Jennie wipes her face with the napkin and picks up the plate. She knew her husband was right, that this concern was only in her head. "You can tell her again. Maybe, just maybe, this is not about me hating you, but it is about me being mad at you. And perhaps I am speaking harshly to you because you are behaving in the wrong approach." Rose said from the kitchen door. "Mom!" Jackson and Jennie said unitedly. Out of panic, Jennie dropped the plate in her hands, and the pieces scattered on the floor.
