More confusion

The next day, Chloe woke up feeling bluer than she was yesterday. Steven had not been answering her calls, and Chloe wanted to know why.

However, what she really wanted to know was the identity of the lady who was with Steven in his car the night of her dinner with Matt, and Steven avoiding her calls just made her more anxious about everything.

It took Chloe days to gain enough nerve to determine on visiting Steven again, and today she decided to talk to him face to face.

Within a few minutes, Chloe was ready. She headed downstairs and took a seat at the dining table without saying a word to her family. It was not an issue since Mr. Wanton was still mad at Chloe for wanting to get back with Steven, Mrs. Wanton did not say much to her daughter these days since her husband had not let go of his anger, Fefe was still acting like a brat, and Chloe did not want to have anything to do with any of them.

Breakfast went on as usual, but the silence was extra intense around the table. Chloe quickly swallowed her food because she wanted to get out of the house and leave this tense atmosphere.

A few seconds into the Wanton family breakfast, Fefe rudely drops her fork, and her parents' eyes focus on her. However, Chloe did not care less about the drama her sister was about to create.

"What is wrong?" Mr. Wanton asked when he saw Fefe standing up from the table.

"I can't eat with her here." Fefe cried.

Chloe did not stop eating her cheese on toast, nor was she concerned about replying or reacting to her little sister's rude comment.

"Where are you going?" Mrs. Wanton shouted as Fefe walked away from the dining room.

"To the living room to watch some television," Fefe answered.

"Are you not going to school?" Her father asked.

"I still have time in my favor!" She replied.

'That's what you get for spoiling her.' Chloe thought.

After Fefe left, their awkwardness at the table only intensified. The silence felt like torture for both the parents and their daughter.

The tumultuous TV sound echoed from the living room into the dining room, and the volume was so loud that Chloe could hear exactly what was being said.

"We interrupt this program to announce that the vice president for 'Tech and Knowledge' got involved in a severe accident yesterday. Mr. Jackson David got taken to the hospital, but so far there's been no news about his current condition. So far the CEO, Mr. Mason, has released no statement concerning this issue. Stay tuned for more information."

As those words echoed into Chloe's ears, she instantly lost her appetite and got up from her chair. Her body trembled in fear from the news. She could not believe the information the reporter had given.

Although Chloe and Jackson's friendship ended on rough terms, they had been good friends before Steven broke up with her, and now she wished that the reporters had reported something else.

"Jackson David sounds familiar. Chloe, is he not your ex-boyfriend's best friend?" Fefe screamed from the living room.

Her parents gazed at her, but Chloe's thoughts were not focusing on them. What she wanted was to be there for Steven and Jackson.

"I got to go," Chloe said.

She felt herself tearing up. She then grabbed her bag and rushed out of her house.

Steven, Julie, Jennie, and Rose had spent the night at the hospital. So far they have gotten no other news about Jackson. Nurses kept going in his room to check on him, and all any of them could say after they came out was "His condition is stable."

"Hey, guys." Mrs. Harper announced when she and Mr. Harper met with Steven and the others.

"I bake some fresh pastries for you guys. Does anyone want to try my coconut pie?" Mr. Harper asked.

"Yes!" They all answered in unison.

For a few seconds, as everyone ate, they suppressed the sadness for a while and had some brief cheerful conversations.

"I am going out for some fresh air." Steven declared after he got done with his food.

A few minutes after he had left, Rose approached Julie and Jennie. She gives them a warm smile, and they return the same.

"How about both of you go out and get some fresh air? Mr. and Mrs. Harper and I can stay here." Rose gently said.

At first, Jennie was hesitant, but she did not want to decline her mother-in-law's request since it would seem rude, so she and Julie agreed and followed after Steven.

Steven stood outside. The strong wind hit against his face, and he liked it. A taxi stopped, and he gazed in its direction.

"Chloe?" Steven mumbled.

He stared in confusion as Chloe walked towards him. Then it clicked to his mind that he had not really broken all ties with her.

Steven rushed toward Chloe and stopped her a few distances away from the hospital. He knew that if he allowed her into the building, things may get a little out of control, and he did not want any misunderstanding between his ex-girlfriend and his current girlfriend.

"Ha! Chloe, good morning." Steven announces with an uncomfortable smile.

Chloe studied his approach to her and knew that Steven was acting weird. However, it did not disturb her since she knew Jackson being in the hospital would greatly affect him.

Suddenly, Chloe rushed to Steven and gave him a big hug. He was so shocked that he just stood still and allowed her to embrace him.

"I am so sorry for what happened to Jackson." Chloe whispered as she squeezed him tightly.

"Why did you stop?" Jennie asked.

She then directed her gaze to where Julie was looking and the sight of Steven hugging Chloe confused her to a great extent.

"Isn't that Steven's EX?" Julie mumbled.

"Yeah. But I am sure he wouldn't betray you. Anyway, there is no chance for those two to get back together." Jennie replied.

Julie kept looking at the transparent glass as she continues searching through her thoughts to figure out what they were discussing.

After a few seconds, Steven gently pushes Chloe a few distances away from him.

"Why are you here?" Steven asked with a dumbfounded expression.

"Can we go into the hospital? I want to speak to you privately. I also want to see Jackson, and I can not do all that when I'm standing outside on the street." Chloe stated.

She tried to walk past him, but Steven blocked her, then he gave her a bright smile.

"Are you hungry? If you are, we can have this conversation over breakfast at the café because I am hungry too. But if you want to see Jackson, then you have to come back another time because his current condition doesn't allow him to have many visitors." Steven said.

There was no way he was going to allow Chloe and Julie to be in the same building since Steven knew that Chloe still had feelings for him, and Julie thought he and Chloe's relationship was completely over.

"Sure let's do it over breakfast," Chloe said.

Steven felt glad that Chloe did not make a fuss about him refusing to let her enter the hospital.

Julie watches as her boyfriend walks away with his ex-girlfriend, and she wanted to trust him so badly, but the sight of them hugging completely erases all her effort to believe that he is faithful to her.

"Why did you say they don't have a chance to be together?" Julie asked since she was trying to find assurances from elsewhere.

"Let's find somewhere private to sit, and I will let you know why their relationship ended," Jennie replied.
