In need of change

Lucas pulled over and stopped in the hospital parking lot. Then he rested back against his seat.

"Are you not coming in?" Miya asked when she saw Lucas closing his eyes.

She knew that the answer to her question was clear, yet she still had a bit of hope that she would get a different response.

"Why should I come inside? I am not the one pregnant." Lucas replied with his eyes still shut.

"But Dr. Christina told me the other day over the phone that she will be performing an ultrasound today. Don't you want to see the kid?" Miya said as she tried to sound calm even though she was getting pretty upset inside.

"I will see it when it comes out. It's not even completely formed yet, so what's the point of seeing it?" Lucas stated with less care in his words and more arrogance.

"Okay, then. See you later." Miya stated.

She bit her lip and held back her tears, then got out of the car and banged the door shut.

Miya knew she should not be hopeful or expect more from her husband, and she should have gotten used to his attitude by now, but the more he acted this way, the more painful it gets.

Steven walked out of the room after sitting with Jackson for a while and doing all the talking while getting no response from his buddy.

"Hey, babe. Did he say something?" Julie said.

Julie, Jennie, and Rose gazed at Steven with hopeful eyes, and that increased his level of depression. He wished that his answers could be something all of them desire to hear, yet the answer was the opposite.

"No, he did not," Steven said.

The optimism in the eyes of the other faded in an instant when he spoke those words. It remained the answer they had been giving each other every time they left Jackson's room, and even though they were getting used to hearing it, still all of them yearned for a change in their own way.

"But did he seem happier when he saw you?" Rose asked, yet she already knew the answer.

"Hold that thought for a second, mom," Steven said as he reached for his phone that was buzzing in his pocket.

"Hey, Steven."

"What's up, Chris?"

"I am on my way to the hospital. How's your buddy?"

"Still the same. Maybe seeing you will help."

Chris and Steven's brief conversation ended, and Steven turned his attention to Rose.

"No, mom. He appeared empty and soulless as he had been for the past few months," Steven said before releasing a deep sigh.

Jennie sat still as she watched the heartbreak on everyone's faces, and all she could think about was how this was all her fault.

She had been trying to prevent Jackson from seeing her for some time now because every time she walked in his room, he seemed to be sadder and angry.

These days, Jennie usually sees Jackson after he has taken his pill and is asleep.

Over the past two months, she and Leon have had numerous arguments about her not returning to his villa since the accident took place and seeing her son.

It breaks her heart every time she remembers that Leo was growing up without her there for him. Yet her guilt would not allow her to go away from Jackson's side and leave for England to see her son.

"Jennie. Jennie!" Steven shouted to get Jennie out of her thoughts.

"Uh," She finally answered.

"How about you go in there and talk some sense into your husband's head? He is messing with everyone's emotions, and it's freaking annoying." Steven lashed out.

'I've been trying so hard to escape something like this from happening. So why do you have to punish me like this God? How can I talk Jackson out of being silent when he's in such a state because of me?' Jennie thought.

"Hey, guys. We have some dishes here for you all and Jackson." Mr. Harper said as he and his wife approached the group.

"Wow! Thank you, Louis," Rose said.

She felt so appreciative that Steven got involved with the Harper family because they have been nothing but helpful since Jackson was in the hospital.

"How's Jackson today?" Harriett said after giving Rose a short hug.

"He is still in the same state. He won't communicate with anyone or eat a lot of food. He is not even talking to me, his mother. Worst of all, it's not because of the injuries, but the fact that he chose to do so." Rose responded.

"I know how you feel. I am so sorry that you have to go through this as a mother." Harriett said with pity in her eyes.

"Thank you. I want to share his burden, but he won't let any of us know what is troubling him. Jennie is going in there to try and talk some sense into him." Rose replied.

'Come on. I thought you guys were concentrating on something else. I guess I can't run from this moment.' Jennie thought.

She got up from her seat, and everyone had their hopeful eyes on her. She headed to the door, walked in, and closed it shut.

"Hey," Jennie uttered.

That was the only word she could think of when she saw Jackson's cold gaze fix on her.

He then turned his head and looked away from her, and Jennie felt a bit of relief because even though he was not talking, his eyes still looked as though they were judging her.

"Everyone out there is worrying about you. Mr. and Mrs. Harper had just arrived, and they brought you some dishes." Jennie said.

With time and no response from her husband, she could feel her heart pounding intensely in her chest. Also, the fear she felt was so real, and the fact that the entire family was outside made her more worried.

Jennie did not want her and Jackson talking about her affair at such a time. Yet, she still wanted him to say something, even if it is just a word.
