Attitude

The atmosphere in the room quickly shifted as Jackson gazed at Chris like he was the biggest fool that he had ever seen.

"Did you hit your head or something?" Jackson asked with a dead serious look on his face.

"No," Chris replied as confusion settled in his eyes, then he loudly chuckled when he understood the question.

"If that's so, then why are you talking gibberish?"

"Gibberish? Uhh, is that how I sound?"

"Yes."

"Well, I'll be on my way then."

With a smirk on Chris's lips, he turned around and slowly walked to the door with his hands resting in his pocket.

"Wait!" Jackson shouted, feeling more stupid for falling for such words.

"Yes," Chris mysteriously said after turning away from the door to face Jackson.

"Let's say, I believe you. How did it happen? The doctors said…"

"I know what the doctor said because I told him to. I am sorry for lying to you about your sperm being damage. I couldn't tell you because Miya was never meant to carry your kids."

The stare of disbelief in Jackson's eyes slowly shifted into a gaze of interest as he coldly smiled and said, "Miya, That's an interesting name. So if she's should not have gotten pregnant for me, then whose child was she supposed to be carrying?"

"Her husband."

"Chris!"

"Before accusing me, I want you to know that it wasn't my fault. The deed was already done before I got involved."

From the coldest in Jackson's expression, he wasn't buying Chris's words for even a second since after everything he had been through, trusting others had become an issue.

"I hate home reckons, so why would you make me one!" Jackson calmly said with aggression in his tone.

"Look here, buddy! I know what you mean, and I get why you are finding it hard to believe me, but I didn't plan any of this, okay?"

With a frown on his lips, Jackson doubtfully raised his eyebrows without replying.

"Home reckon! Ha! I am sorry, but you have to be one because the guy Miya is married to is a douchebag! He's the worst! Do you know what I have been through to protect your kids and her?" Chris shouted with rage burning in his eyes.

"How would I know? I have been in a coma for a year." Jackson arrogantly mumbled with no remorse in his tone.

"Well, why you were in a coma, I told you how the kids came out looking nothing like him and exactly like you, and how he's putting her through hell because of that. God knows what he would have done to her if she was not biracial!"

"Really,"

It was frustrating Chris when he saw the lack of interest on Jackson's face every time he mentioned Miya. So he pulled out his phone and scrolled through it for a while.

"Here! See for yourself if you don't believe me!" Chris shouted before tossing it on the bed.

Still feeling a bit hesitant, Jackson picked up the phone and stared at the image of three babies that look alike and almost exactly like the baby picture of him that Rose love to show to everyone when talking about his childhood.

"How did this happen?" Jackson anxiously said as his fingers trembled around the phone.

"The was a mix-up with yours and her husband's sperm. Before the doctor could catch on to her mistake, the job was already done." Chris explained with pity in his eyes as he stared at Jackson's wet eyes.

"So, I am a dad?"

"Yes, buddy. You are their biological father."

Unknown to himself a smile crept upon Jackson's lips as he allowed his tears to fall upon his cheeks. Then he happily stared at Chris and said, "I want to meet them."

The silence that followed his statement had Jackson dumbfoundedly staring at Chris's awkward gaze as he gently rubbed his nose as he avoided meeting Jackson's eyes.

After waiting for almost a minute and studying Chris's expression, Jackson sighed and asked, "What's the problem?"

"This entire hospital and its staff are at risk if Miya finds out the truth. We are talking about the possibility of losing billions of dollars in a lawsuit and getting this place shut down." Chris worriedly said.

"What are you getting at? I am the victim here too. However, I don't mind losing money if that means having a relationship with my kids. And for the hospital, who cares! This mess happened because of them, so it's only right that they pay for their actions."

"Think about it, Miya doesn't know you. It's possible that she could withhold the kids from you and there's nothing you can do about it."

"So what are you saying?"

The words were at the tip of Chris's tongue, but judging from Jackson's expression, he knew it was going to be an intense debate once they came out, and yet he understood that he had to say them.

"You can't tell her the truth." Chris slowly said, hoping that he had made himself clear.

"You want me to lie?" Jackson asked with a look of offense on his face.

It took a while for Chris to process his words convincingly since it was clear that Jackson was mad.

"Yes. But not forever." He uttered without losing the confidence in his tone.

"Are you freaking kidding me! My entire life has been fill with liars, and you want me to do the same? Do you know the damage a single lie can do to a person?" Jackson lashed out with brokenness in his expression.

"I do. But…"

"I don't think you do! Because if you did, this conversation wouldn't exist. And here I thought that you were different!"

"All I am saying is that you withhold the truth from Miya for the time being, get closer to her, and build a relationship with her before telling her the truth!"

"A relationship? I don't care about that woman or her messed-up marriage! All I want is my kids!"

"If you truly mean that, then you have to start with Miya, or you can wait when the triplets becomes eighteen years old before getting to know them!"

"Get out!"

After pacing back and forth for a while, the door finally opened, drawing Steven's attention to Chris as he walked out, angrily mumbling beneath his breath.

"Did something happen?" Steven curiously asked, noticing the frustration on Chris's face.

It took a while to get his rage under control as he breathed out to release some of the tension in his chest.

Then Chris firmly stared at Steven and said, "That guy when through some serious attitude update why being in a coma! Mrs. Harper was wrong! He is not the Jackson we all know."

The was confusion on Steven's face while he dumbfoundedly watched as Chris angrily marched past him and walked out.

Afterward a brief while, Steven approached the room door and attempted to knock, but his hand felt stuck.

He then stood for a while before his hand fell to his side as he let out a sigh.

"It's best to leave you alone. Judging from the rage on Chris's face, I think that I will be disappointed to meet the new you." Steven mumbled as he turned away from the door.
