Moving on

As the light from the rising sun crept into the house, Miya walked into the kitchen. Then she shoved her hands into her robe pocket while she stared at Lucas's broad back.

"What are you doing?" Miya softly said with a sweet smile when her husband turned around and stared at her.

"Making you breakfast." Lucas gently said with adoration bimming in his eyes.

"You didn't have to do it."

"I know. But I want to. Here, come and try it."

Feeling a bit hesitant, Miya took out her hands from her pocket and walked over to the counter. Then she gave Lucas a half-smile before picking up the fork and taking a bite of the pasta.

'This is awful. How did Jackson learn to cook so well? Wait, Miya! Stop thinking about him, it's been a month already. Plus you and Lucas's relationship is doing so well now.' Miya thought as her hand tightened around the fork.

"Is it good?" Lucas asked while anxiously staring at his wife.

His words snapped Miya out of her thoughts. Then she nodded with excitement glowing on her face and happily said, "it's really good."

"Seriously?"

"Yeah."

Forcing a big smile on her lips, Miya took a huge bite of the spaghetti and gave Lucas a thumb up.

After swallowing it down and getting over the awful feeling in her throat, she laid the fork down and stared at her husband with a serious expression on her face.

"What is it?" Lucas asked while cleaning his hands with a towel.

"I was thinking about going back to work. It's been one month since I missed that job interview and our cash is running low. I can barely afford to keep up with the bails and provide the triplet daily needs. What do you think?" Miya softly said making sure her tone was gentle as possible.

His face bore no expression as Lucas tossed the towel on the table. Then he dragged a stood closer to the counter and sat down, and the entire time Miya was holding back her breath.

"You should stay home and take care of the kids since they are at the stage where they need their mother. I will get a job to cover up the bails and the house expenses." Lucas said without losing the calmness in his eyes.

"Really?" Miya asked in shock.

Then her lashes uncontrollably flickered when Lucas took her hands in his, and his thumb smoothly rubbed against her skin.

"I am sorry. I know that I have caused you a lot of headaches and pain in the past. But I promise you that I am ready to be the husband you deserve and the father our kids will be proud of." Lucas sweetly said, then a smile curved on his lips.

"I love you," Miya replied, feeling a sense of uncertainty, and yet she didn't let it show in her voice.

Although she has heard similar words like these in the past, and it only became broken words. Yet this time, she wants so desperately for it to be real and she had hope because Lucas had quit smoking and drinking for a month now.

After sitting in the silence for a while, Miya smile at Lucas and said, "I should check on the kids."

"Okay, and I will clean up here," Lucas said as he let go of her hand.

For the first time in a month, Miya felt her heart beat calmly, and as she left the kitchen and headed upstairs to the triplet room, she didn't feel the need to look over her shoulder.

When she pushed the bedroom door open and walked inside, Miya saw that Milu and Milo were already up. She then smiled at their cute faces before walking over to Mila's crib.

Suddenly the smile on her face disappeared and her eyes widened in horror as she watched her daughter struggling to breathe.

Suddenly Miya's entire body when cold, and She felt so scared that she forgot how to breathe, and when she opened her mouth, her words deserted her as fear choked her.

"Lucas!" Miya finally screamed in terror as tears rushed down her face unknown to herself.

As Jackson wore his tie, he paused for a moment, heavily sigh, and thought, 'Why would you allow that woman and her mad husband kissing scene to live in your head rent-free for a month. Ahh, just thinking about it makes me annoyed."

Then his ringtone drew his attention from his thoughts and back to reality. After blankly staring at his reflection for a moment, Jackson walked over to his bed, picked up his phone, and answered the call.

"Good morning, dude. I just spoke with Steven, and he's already on his way to the tailor for his suit fitting and so am I. Are you on your way?" Chris's voice echoed from the phone speaker.

"Yeah, I am getting dressed," Jackson mumbled as he strived to finish tying his tie and keep the phone to his ear.

"Oh, you and Miya…"

"We are good. I haven't don't anything stupid to ruin her marriage. However, it is becoming difficult to see my kids these days. How long do I have to keep playing pretend?"

"I don't know. When I told you to lie are didn't know how complex things were going to get. Maybe I wasn't thinking about the future at that moment."

A frown settled on Jackson's face as he picked up his coat from on the bed and wore it. Then he grabbed his keys off the sheets and said, "You know that I can't keep lying forever, right? I am lawyering up after Steven's wedding. It's time that I become a father to my kids."

"You are right." Chris's voice flowed out of the phone speaker.

After ending the call, Jackson left his room and headed out of his house. Then he got into his car and drove off.

However, as he got closer to Miya's house, he saw her standing on the road, and his foot hastily stepped on the brake.

The car can to a stopped. Then Jackson lifted his head and stared into Miya's teary eyes as she stared back at him with a look of desperation on her face.
