Covering the truth

When Jackson got down from his car and approached Miya, he opened his mouth to speak. But then he stopped and gazed at Lucas and back at Miya.

"What's going on?" Jackson mumbled with worry in his eyes as he stared at the triplet car seats on the porch.

"Mila is not breathing properly. Our car broke down. We are trying to call an Uber, but it will be a while before one gets here, and I don't want to wait." Miya hastily said as her tears flowed down her cheeks.

As Jackson listened to her explanation, he could feel fear clutching onto his heart, increasing his heart rate as his pulse beat in his ears.

"What are you guys waiting for! Get in the car!" Jackson shouted.

Without waiting on Lucas and Miya, Jackson took Milu and Milo's car seats, rushed with them to his car, and settled them in the back seat of the vehicle.

Afterward, Lucas and Miya joined him with Lucas holding onto Mila's car seat. Then within a few minutes, they were all seated in the Mercedes, and Jackson drove off at full speed.

Finally, after breaking multiple traffic rules and screaming at countless drivers to drive fast, Jackson arrived at "Little Angels," the most expensive children's hospital.

He aggressively parked in the parking lot, then turned the engine off and got down from the car.

"Why are we here? I can't afford Mila getting treatment from such an expensive place." Miya cried when Jackson opened the back door of the Mercedes.

Without paying the tiniest bit of attention to Miya, Jackson took Mila out of her seat. Then he stared at Miya and said, "But I can."

"That's not the same. Take us to Grace hospital. My insurance can cover up the expense."

"We don't have time for another drive through town."

Feeling a bit reluctant, Miya moved her lips to reply, but Lucas cut her off and said, "He's right. Let Miya take treatment here. Once I start work, I will pay him back."

Not waiting for Miya's approval, Jackson rushed off with Mila and hurried to the entrance of the hospital.

When Miya and Lucas finally caught up with him in the lobby, the nurses had already taken Mila from Jackson and carried her away.

"Where's my daughter?" Miya mumbled with a hint of annoyance in her tone.

"She is in the care of the doctors. What we have to do now is wait." Jackson replied, striving his best not to break down or let his tears show in his eyes.

After coldly glancing at Jackson with a frown on her face, Miya walked over to the chairs, sat down, rested her face in her palms, and cried silently.

However, when Lucas sat beside her, place his hand around her, and pulled Miya into his arms, she let out a loud cry while holding onto his shirt tightly.

They had been waiting for a while, and finally, a doctor walked up to them. Then he approached Jackson and said, "You must be the father?"

"No, he's not. We are her parents, not him." Miya aggressively said while angrily staring at the doctor.

"I am sorry for the misunderstanding."

"It doesn't matter. What are care about is my daughter!"

The doctor took in a deep breath and said, "can we talk in my office."

"Sure," Miya replied.

As they were about to leave the lobby, Miya turned around, questionably gazed at Jackson, and said, "Judging from your dress code, don't you have somewhere to be?"

At that moment, Jackson got a call from Steven. But he hastily canceled the call and said, "No, I don't. Plus, I am paying the bails, so I need to be here."

The atmosphere between both of them got pretty hostile. But Miya knew that such a situation wasn't the time for her to express her frustration, so she faced the front and they all headed to the doctor's office.

Once they were all seated, Miya got asked a few questions by the doctor about Mila's symptoms and her diet.

Then he left them in his office with these words, "I will need to do a screening, some blood tests, and complete a physical exam of your daughter before I can give any further information."

The awkwardness in the room only intensified as everyone sat in silence keeping their thoughts and feelings to themselves.

After waiting for quite a while, the doctor returned, and his expressionless face had Miya and Jackson more worried since they couldn't guess if he had good or bad news for them.

When the doctor got seated behind his desk, he rested his hands on the flat wooden surface and said "We need to carry out a blood transfusion because Mila has developed an illness called 'Anemia. "

"What?" Miya mumbled, holding in her tears as fear slowly eat at her.

"Your daughter has Aplastic anemia. Which means her bone marrow has failed to make blood cells that's why we need a blood donor."

"Okay. Both her parents are here, so where do we start?"

"Well, I will need a blood sample from the both of you, and they will get tested to seeing which one of you will be giving blood to little Mila."

The entire conversation made the color quickly drained from Jackson's face as the hairs rose on the back of his neck and his mouth ran dry.

His suit suddenly felt uncomfortable when he felt sweat poured down his body while he sat as still as possible, wondering what his next move was going to be.

However, he knew just like a candle can not be hidden in the midst of darkness, so it was with keeping the truth as a secret. One day it would blow up in your face, and today, Jackson had a bad feeling that his secret was about to get expose.

But even though he felt ready for the truth to be out in the open, he still feared the chaos that would be unleashed with it. Finally he made a decision that he wasn't going to allow the truth to slip out today, maybe another day, but not now.

"Okay Mom and Dad, are you guys ready?" The doctor asked as he stood from his seat.

"Yes," Miya replied while getting up from her chair.

When he felt the doctor and Miya's eyes on him, Lucas snapped out of his thoughts and stood up. Then he took Miya's hand in his and said, "We are."
