The swipe

Jackson was left along with Milo and Milu as Miya and Lucas followed the doctor out of the office.

It took quite a while for the three of them to return, and the moment they were all seated in the room again, Jackson knew that it was now or never for him to act.

So he casually stood up, making sure that his face remained expressionless. Then he glanced at Miya and said, "Excuse me. I need to make a call."

"Okay." Miya absentmindedly said while staring at the bandage on her arm.

As Jackson was about to walk out the door his sight caught a glimpse of Lucas intensely gazing at him with a look of suspicion in his eyes. However, he ignored it and headed outside before shutting the door close.

Even though people were walking past him and the was noise echoing through the walls, the hospital still felt lonely and cold as Jackson strolled down the hall, searching for the room Miya and Lucas had just left.

When he finally stumped across a nurse pulling a trolley with bags of blood on it, Jackson felt a bit of relief in his chest.

Then he rushed over to her, faintly smiled, and said, "Can we talk? It's urgent, please."

"Is there a problem?" The nurse asked with a look of concern on her face.

"Yes, but it's not a hallway discussion."

"Okay. However, I can't stay long because a baby needs a blood transfusion urgently."

After slightly nodding, Jackson casually walked into the room, and the nurse followed him and shut the door behind her.

"Those blood are for baby Mila, right?" Jackson hastily asked, feeling a bit nervous.

"Yes. As I said, she needs the blood transfusion urgently." The nurse replied with a bit of confusion in her eyes.

As Jackson took in a deep breath, he ushered his eyes shut, and after a second of reluctance, his eyelids raised. Then he stared at the nurse and said, "I am her father. The guy blood that you just drew is useless to my daughter. So to not waste time, take my blood instead of his."

"But her mother said…" The nurse mumbled as the confusion in her eyes suddenly shifted into shock mix with doubt.

"I know what her mother told you guys, and she's kinda right because no one knows this except me, and well, few other people do, but not her."

"What?"

"Look, this is a complicated story to explain. So how about I give you thirty thousand dollars to swipe the blood bag and keep your lips seal?"

It took the nurse a second to nodded her head in agreement. Then she ushered Jackson to sit on the bed, hurriedly took an intravenous line, and inserted the needle into one of Jackson's blood vessels.

"This is going to take up to one hour." The nurse worriedly said as she watched the blood roll through the tube.

"Just do what you got to do. I will handle the rest." Jackson mumbled.

Then he slowly took out his phone, when to his call log, and dial the first number on the list.

"Dude, Steven is pissed. Where are you?" Chris's voice echoed from the phone speaker.

"At the hospital. Mila is sick and she needs blood." Jackson said.

"What?"

"I have everything under control. Well, almost everything. I need you to call doctor Marshall and tell him to divert Miya and Lucas's attention for a while."

"Sure. But don't you think it's a perfect time to let fate take its course and allow the truth to be set free?"

A second thought crossed Jackson's mind for a moment. Then he sighed and said, "Nah. Steven's wedding is just a few months away. Jennie is still refusing to sign the divorce papers. Plus I haven't spoken to a lawyer yet about my chances of getting custody of my kids. Also, I don't want them anywhere near that madman when the truth comes out."

"You are right. Lucas is not the kind of guy to take such news lightly. I will phone Marshall right away." Chris's voice echoed out of the phone speaker before Jackson could end the call.

After staring at the clock for a while, Miya looked at the doctor with stress in her eyes. Then she frowned and asked, "What's going on? Shouldn't the nurse already have the result of which one of us blood is compatible with my daughter?"

For a moment, Doctor Marshall gazed at his watched and scowled. Then he opened his mouth to reply to Miya, but his ringtone tone drew his attention to his desk.

"Excuse me," Marshall said as he picked up his phone.

He then answered the call, and the entire time the phone rested against his ear, he uttered no words until after two minutes had passed. Then marshall took in a deep breath and said, "I understand."

After laying the phone back on the desk, doctor Marshall gazed at Lucas, then at Miya, and a gentle smile appeared on his face as he said, "A few more tests need to get run on your husband's blood since it's compatible with Mila. But everything will be over soon."

"Oh, thank God." Miya cried while squeezing onto Lucas's hand, then she stared at him, and he faintly smiled at her.

For the first time in six months, Miya felt completely free now that she knew her babies' DNA matched that of her husband, and she didn't have to feel the weight of unknown guilt that hunted her night and day.

One hour later, the plastic bag finally got filled with Jackson's blood. Then the nurse pulled the needle out of his skin and put a bandage on the tiny bruise.

Afterward, Jackson rolled his sleeve down, stood from the bed, and walked out of the room.

When he arrived at Doctor Marshall's office, he took a second to breathe his nervousness out before opening the door and walking into the room.

The moment he and Doctor Marshall's eyes met, the doc gently cleared his throat before anxiously looking the other way.

Then as Jackson advanced to the couch, he felt Lucas's cold gaze on him. But he kept his cool and took a seat.

"Do you both take me as a fool? When did you guys start your affair?" Lucas angrily mumbled as he slowly withdrew his hand from Miya's grip.

'Well, I guess the truth is coming out today.' Jackson thought while coldly staring into Lucas's mad eyes.
