(Andrew's POV)
Sergei extended his arm and pulled me out as soon as he got out.
The beast's claws missed my legs by inches as I got pulled out of the dooming tunnels.
We laid on the ground, tired from all the running we had to do. The beasts followed us around every inch and corner of the tunnels. There were about eight of them. We even found a dead one. It was the largest of the bunch, probably the mother or the leader.
Good news was that they didn't follow us out of the tunnels. I think it had something to do with the fog.
"Hey brat, who do you think killed the behemoth one?" Asked Sergei.
"I don't know. It probably has been dead for a while but no one found it." I said as I tried to regulate my breathing.
"Well I'm glad that one wasn't after us. It would've eaten me in one bite." Sergei said as we laughed.
"True that."
I sat up slowly to look around. It was night time. The moon's light dimly lit the area. We were in some kind of alley. I was clueless as to where exactly it was but I was glad we weren't out on a main street or something.
I stood up and stretched a bit, also cracked my back. Sergei did the same thing.
"Copycat." I said quietly.
"What? I need to stretch too." He said as I giggled.
"Whatever bruv."
"Let's find someplace to sleep." Suggested Sergei.
"Good idea." I started. "How about we begin with these buildings." I pointed to the buildings on either side of us. "But we go together and not do something stupid like they do in the movies."
"I agree." Sergei said as he nodded.
We went to the one on our left hand side first. There was a door that led inside further down the alley. We went towards it slowly and carefully.
The door knob was stiff, indicating that it hadn't been used in a long time. I used some force to turn it and open the door to enter the building. Sergei followed closely.
It was very dark inside. At least outside there was the moonlight.
It was some kind of storage building I guessed. There were boxes everywhere. At least that's all I could see.
We continued going further into the building, slowly. There was a door at the end of the room we were in. Sergei went ahead and opened the door.
We went through a corridor that had so many doors in it that we didn't even bother with checking them. We just headed for the stairs at the end of the corridor.
It was an intense walk. It may not sound like much but we were unsure as to if there was anything or anyone in the building or not so we had to be careful and as quite as possible.
As we reached the stairs we saw a huge writing on the wall.
"BEWARE. SCREECHERS."
"Let's calmly go out." Sergei said.
"Let's go in. Maybe it's nothing and someone is just playing so we don't enter." I said.
"If there is someone then why bother. They could end up killing us." Sergei warned.
"We've dealt with worse." I said confidently.
I took the first step and started ascending the stairs.
I reached the second floor and there was no sign of life, human and non-human.
It was some kind of office building. Cubicles containing destroyed computers and papers, Big monitors on the walls and a lot of lights that were not working.
Sergei followed me after a couple of seconds. It was good that we stuck together.
We went further into the second floor, it was very messy.
'Whatever happened here wasn't pretty.' I thought to myself.
There were papers everywhere, on the ground, the tables and even the walls separating the cubicles. Sergei took out his pistol just in case anything happened.
We kept going through until we reached a large window overlooking the street.
It was empty, emptier than I've ever seen. The whole town was like a ghost town. Void of any motion. A dead town.
I felt scared, lonely, in danger. I had no idea whether Sergei felt the same or not.
I turned around and I saw Sergei looking at me with an emotionless face. It was the first time he looked like that.
All of a sudden his feet came off the ground as blood dripped from his body. Something roared from behind him. It was one of the fog monsters.
It had buried its claws deep into Sergei's body. And lifted him off the ground to further tear into him. It smashed Sergei into one of the cubicles with ridiculous force. It then turned and looked at me as saliva drops came out through its teeth.
First thing that came to mind was Sergei's revolver. I saw he still had it in his hand but he was motionless.
The other thing was that I jump out of the window. Which sounded good when I thought of it but not when I actually jumped.
I had a couple of yards for a run up and then I leapt into the windows.
The glass smashed as I hit the ground hard but adrenaline took over and I took off sprinting into the town.
I glanced back and saw the monster jumped after me and was approaching me slowly. It couldn't run.
There was some blue goo on its right leg, I assumed it was blood. It was walking pretty much only on its left leg. It looked scary still but less scary than if it was running.
'Maybe I can scoot around it and get the revolver from Sergei.' I thought.
I turned around now and started going towards the building we leapt out of. The monster got a little quicker but nowhere near if it was running. I ran around it because the street was wide enough for me to risk it.
I went inside through the door we came in and saw the monster clawed a bit before forcing itself in, because it was larger than the door.
I sprinted up the stairs and made my way to where Sergei was. I saw him leaning on the cubicle, lifeless.
I really wanted to bury him but with what was going on around me I hardly had time to say goodbye after grabbing the gun.
I went to the window and saw the monster on the ground. It sounded like it was moaning from the pain.
Seeing the monster in that shape, I decided to go out through the door I came in.
I got out to see the monster making its way towards the door. Clawing the ground and dragging itself towards me. I took out the Bowie knife I had and buried it in its skull.
Blue goo came out of its head and splashed all over my face.
'My guess was right.' I thought of the blue blood.
"Well, that's all there is to this prick." I said out loud as I stood up straight.
I heard a car engine in the distance. I stepped out onto the street and waited for them.
'Don't be an asshole.' I thought.
