Aiden : The Beginning

(Aiden's POV)

'Another dawn, another shitty day.' I thought to myself.

I forced myself to sit up from my bed. I had hung a mirror on my wall exactly opposite of where I would usually sit up from my bed. I stared myself up and down.

'What a waste of a soul.'

I dragged myself across my room after standing up. I opened my closet and picked the closest things to me, a red shirt and blue cargo pants.

'Could be worse.' I thought as I put them on.

"AIDEN, HONEY BREAKFAST IS READY." I heard my mother call from downstairs.

"Coming." I whispered knowing well she wouldn't have heard me even if I shouted.

I looked at my room as I put on my boots.

'Amazing how through all what we have been through this town kinda held its self together.'

Well, until the savages came along. Southend sea was a good place to live in after the outbreak.

'Is it even an outbreak?' I asked myself.

Then the savages came under the leadership of Ramsey Grant. A person you would never want to deal with.

I then locked my room's door right before rushing down the stairs. I went to the kitchen where my parents and older brother were waiting for me.

"Good morning and sorry for being late." I started as I took a seat next to my brother and opposite of our parents.

"Good morning Aiden." They all said.

"It's alright son. Your mother over here prepared us some mighty fine breakfast. A nice omelet and some chicken." My father said.

"That isn't really the best but it's all we got." My mother added.

"It's good regardless Mom." I said.

"Son." My father started. "Ramsey asked to see you again today. If you don't want to go, your brother Gareth can go instead."

"No, thanks dad. He asked for me that means I should probably go." I said in a little concern.

"I'm telling you if you want to change your mind about it, just come and talk to us. Alright son?"

"Yeah, thanks." I smiled.

After finishing up with breakfast, I grabbed my black jacket and headed out.

I didn't go to where Ramsey would normally wait for me because I thought it was a little early. So instead I headed to the place me and my friend Jenna would hang out and calm down from the stress of the town. Well, the stress of the town being Ramsey Grant.

Our place was on the outskirts of a small forest. There was a small cave opening that was sealed off by a huge boulder. So we would just sit there and talk.

Jenna was already there when I reached after a five minute walk from the town's main gate. She was cooking something that smelled nice.

"What you cookin?" I asked.

"A rabit." She smiled.

"Finally caught one?"

"No actually it came up to me and .... I'm cooking it now."

"You are a horrible person Jenna and you are going to hell for that." I said as we both laughed.

"I know, I know. You don't have to remind me everyday." She laughed a bit more.

I sat and leaned on the boulder. I thought of what Ramsey could possibly want from me today.

We talked about some stuff we had done the past week and laughed at some stupid moments too. It was fun. Jenna stopped laughing suddenly and turned serious.

"What's wrong Aiden?" Jenna asked seriously.

"Nothing, just thinking." I replied.

"You don't normally do that when you come here. You always tell me to not think about anything when we come here."

"Ramsey asked to see me again today. And I don't have anything to take to him." I said worriedly.

Jenna was a little startled too. She got up and came and sat next to me.

"Maybe he just wants to talk to you." Jenna said as she gently placed her hand on my left shoulder to reassure me.

"He never wants to talk." I started. "I wish I complete my training soon so I can take a gun with me and end this asshole." I said angrily.

"We will do it eventually. Now, I would say stay and eat, but I think you should go and see what he wants." She said with a gentle smile.

"Alright. I will come back here after I do what he wants." I said as I smiled back.

I got up and waved goodbye at Jenna.

'She's such an amazing person and an awesome friend.' I thought to myself.

I took the way I came from. I heard some noises in the bushes but figured they are just from the wildlife around here.

I kept walking down the way that lead to the sea, that's where we would normally meet.

I finally reached the place and saw them waiting for me. He was sat in his Range Rover with the windows down. His guards standing all over the area to protect him.

"At last you decided to grace us with your presence." Started Ramsey.

"Sorry for being a little late, I had some stuff to take care of." I said nervously.

"I had stuff to take care of too." Ramsey laughed a bit. "Isn't it funny how we both had stuff to do yet here we meet?"

"Not really. You asked to see me, didn't you?" I asked in response.

"Ah yes. Where is today's gift?" He asked.

"I didn't get one."

"Why is that, young Aiden?"

"I didn't have time Ramsey. Plus I need time to rest." I snapped.

"Don't worry child. You already gave me today's gift." He said with a wide grin.

"When though?" I asked.

"We took it." He said as he got out of his car.

I was so confused as to what was going on.

"You want to end this asshole?" He said as he pointed to himself.

My heart sank. He somehow knew of the conversation between myself and Jenna. I was so scared, more than I ever had been.

"How about I end this asshole?" He said as he dragged someone out from behind the car.

Emotions rushed all over me. I couldn't imagine what he was going to do next but I hoped he wouldn't kill him.

"No, Ramsey. Listen, please don't." I said as uncontrollable tears started running down my face.

"Aiden, run away brother. This psycho could kill you." Said Gareth as he sat helpless between Ramsey's hands.

"Oh don't worry I won't get my hands dirty my child. They will do it for me." Ramsey said as he nodded.

As he nodded one of his guards came and slid a knife across Gareth's neck. Blood gushed out like a fountain. I stood there as if I got paralyzed and couldn't move a muscle.

"This is a lesson to you kid. Next time do as you are goddamned told and be respectful while doing it." Ramsey snapped at me.

He got back into his car and started the engine. His guards rode their motorbikes and started them as well.

"Think twice before saying or doing anything." Ramsey said to me before him and his guards drove off.

I couldn't move at all. I just stood there. Looking at the soulless body of my brother, blood still coming out. I was wondering if this was a dream or this really just happened.

'He's gone.' I thought to myself.

I somehow dragged myself over to his body.

'Body or corpse?' I thought. 'Either way he is dead.'

I went behind him and grabbed his legs. I started dragging him to the sea. I couldn't bury him because I didn't have anything to dig with. So the sea was the next best thing.

Tears rolled down my face as I dragged him behind me. Every step bringing me closer to the sea. Every step harder to take than the last.

The cool wind brushing against my cheeks as the tears made my face go colder. My heart had sunk and I felt like it was the end for me too.

Finally, I stood one step away from the edge of the cliff. I couldn't take that step. I flopped on the ground to rest. I realized I had made a long trail of blood. Made me feel worse.

I sat staring at my brother's corpse. He was my pillar in life. I relied on him more times than I can count. Now he's gone. In the blink of an eye.

I sat for some time until I realized it was getting dark.

'I've been here for the whole day almost.' I shook myself awake.

I stood up and brought the corpse within inches from falling.

"Thank you for everything you've done for me brother. I will take care of them." I said referring to our parents.

I picked him up on my shoulder and tossed him as far away as I could, so he doesn't hit any rocks.

I saw his lifeless body splash in the water. Then sink down slowly, yet surely.

"Fuck." I said quietly.

I turned back to the blood trail I had left. Following it in tears, I started my way back to the town.
