Day 4

As a new day began, I reported last night's events to the requester then went to check the field.

Despite all the action that happened deep in the night, the field was mostly safe, setting aside one half eaten carrot.

I packed my equipment and said good bye.

He asked me if I was giving up, I answered no, I was just finishing the mission.

Because he didn't understand what I meant, I showed him the blood trail leading to the forest nearby.

And then with my bow and arrow in hands, I started my chase after the boar.

--//--

It took three hours to reach the dead boar.

It died due to the bleeding, saving me the trouble to finish it off.

Unfortunately by the time I reached it the ants and blood crows were already having their lunch so the boar carcass was already half eaten, which made me lose all desire to consume it.

I took out it's fangs, hoofs and fur and stored them all in my backpack, then I dug a hole and buried everything that was left.

The way back to the guild was tedious and my stomach protested again and again making me speed up my pace to reach the city even a second faster.

Reaching the city I stopped by the Inn to have lunch and I can't describe my feelings when I found out today's lunch was roasted boar with cabbage and carrots. I really wanted to ask them if they were doing that to cheer me up or mock me, but they surely had no idea about tonight's events so I'm sure it's one damn coincidence. No matter what, the boar was delicious!

--//--

In the afternoon I arrived at the Guild to report my quest.

After showing the fangs as a proof, the guild receptionist asked if I wanted to sell my spoils, and after considering that I had no better use to them, I agreed.

Looking for a new quest was a pain in the ass. Because it was already afternoon, most quests were already taken and the quest board was almost empty. Most ones that were left were too risky for me and even if I wished to take any, I couldn't due to my status as a Rank F adventurer.

Having no ideas on how to proceed, I asked the guild receptionist for an advice. She told me that aside from the board, I could take regular quests directly with her (like the herb collection quest). I accept her suggestion and ended up with a goblin scouting quest.

--//--

The goblin scouting quest was a simple patrol quest. I had to proceed through a preset route and kill any goblin I encountered in the way.

Goblins are troublesome humanoid monsters, they got green skin, yellow eyes and are around a meter high. Their strength is equivalent to a child, but they can produce and use tools like knifes and slings which increase their danger by a lot, but that's not the main problem of goblins, instead it's the fact they are immune to the city's repealing barrier and have a culture of forming big groups.

When I was a child I heard tales about goblin armies pillaging villages and even destroying kingdoms. As I grew up I discover such cases are rare but they do happen, that's why a number of anti-goblin measures are taken by every village and cities.

In a way, I felt proud of myself for finally joining the effort to provide safety for the lives of the people, but at the same time, this could be my first time fighting goblins so I felt a bit anxious as well.

--//--

By evening I arrived back from the patrol and reported there was nothing wrong to the guild.

The receptionist asked me a couple questions and I answered to the best of my abilities, but looking at her face, it seems like it was not enough.

Before leaving I asked if seeing no goblins was common and she answered yes but at the same time worrisome, she complemented saying that the longer they didn't appear, the bigger the army they would bring when they do appear, so she hoped for them to appear at once.

Her words made me worried enough that I may have troubles sleeping tonight.

With nothing left to do, I simply got my reward and went back to the inn.
