Day 3

Yesterday I reached home so tired that I fell asleep right away and had no time to write.

Because on the way to the field I caught a ride and was distracted talking to the merchant, I had a complete misconception of how far that field was and ended up only reaching home close to midnight.

By the way, my actual home is a single room of the Blue Eir Inn, near the market place. Eir is a regional bird, it's quite small and cute. Just like the bird, the Inn's rooms are also small but neat and for me who stays all day away from home, they are just what I need.

The inn also has a communal bath are, 4 toilets and a restaurant that acts like a bar at night, making things really lively no matter what time of the day it is. It's a really great place, their baked pies taste the best and I recommend this Inn to anyone who needs to stay in the city for a small time period, so be sure to take note.

After delivering the horns, I commented to the receptionist about my experiences and she casually asked me if I was aware of the wind direction. Thinking back, it seems like I payed no mind and that may have been way I found no rabbits as I searched around... Good think I'm taking note of this now, so I can correct my mistake next time I try a hunting quest!

Today's quest is a extermination quest. It seems like a night boar is eating all vegetables in the neighboring farm and the farmers are looking for someone to kill it to prevent further damages.

Considering it's only a single target and it's danger level is low, this quest was evaluated as F rank, so it shouldn't be that hard. The only down side is that the reward is the night boar I kill, so it won't help me paying my bills unless I sell it.

Should I sell it? No way! It's a delicious night boar meat we are talking about! There is no way I will miss it!

Sorry wallet, I know you are quite thin, but please endure it for a bit longer.

After walking west for two hours I finally arrived to the farm where the requester greeted me with a smile. He talked about the damages done by the night boar, then he started showing me around.

The farm was not too big, about the same size as Rodrigue's farm. It had a field full of carrots and cabbages, a hen house and a little lake.

I asked if were there fishes in the lake, and the answer was yes but they didn't allow any fishing as it was their winter supplies. How did they know what I was thinking? Am I that easy to read?

Anyway, the greeting was done, it was time to start to work.

While this was a extermination quest, it worked more like a hunting quest instead, so I proceeded as a hunting quest and started setting traps all around the farm. These traps wont be able to capture it, at best they will be able to stop him for a while, a night boar is a whole rank above the horned rabbits so it's strength is more than enough to break all my wood traps. Of course things would change if I had iron traps, but those cost money, and I have no money.

By the way, do you know the difference between an extermination quest and a hunting quest?

Sounds the same, right?

Well, on extermination quests all you have to do is kill the target and have someone confirm the kill, after that you are free to do anything you want with the target's corpse like selling it or even eating it. As for hunting quests, you have to collect a number of specific parts from the target, like horns, meat or even the creature alive. In short hunting quests require extra attention of the procedures of the hunt while extermination quests give us freedom to kill the target whichever way we want.

As it name says, the night boar goes out only at night and stayed hidden in it's nest during the day. Finding it's nest is quite difficult even for experienced hunters, and since the traps wouldn't be able to stop it, my only option was to prepare an ambush, and to do that, I needed to be properly rested, so after setting the traps, I set camp on the side of the house and slept for the whole afternoon.

Night arrived in a flash while I was sleeping.

The Tera and Aqua Moons were both full tonight, exciting both earth and water spirits.

The traps were set, I equipped myself and hid among the vegetables waiting for our guest to arrive.

Time passed slowly and even though I slept the whole afternoon, sleepiness slowly started taking over me.

Around the time the two Moons aligned themselves in the sky a small sound was heard.

The boar entered the field by the south side, evading my traps.

Even so I stood still, waiting for it to get closer and slowly positioned my bow.

...

SHOOT!

The boar screamed in pain and started to run away from me, exactly to the place I set my traps before.

I got up in a flash and prepared another arrow.

The boar got catch in a trap, blinding it's leg to the stack. Feeling the sudden resistance, the boar rolled on the floor as it lost it's balance.

SHOOT!

Taking advantage of it's momentary stop, I shoot another arrow.

The boar screamed stronger than before and started pulling the trap's rope as it tried to ran away.

I prepared my third arrow and shoot it again but on the last moment the boar broke out of the trap and ran away into the night.

Losing sight of the boar, I had no option but give up for tonight.
