Maps were strung around the room, spreadsheets scattering the table. When I walked in, my partners were already huddled around a table covered in papers.
"You do know I'm on this team, right?" I stared at them. They both looked up, seeming annoyed. Then, one spoke. "I'm Gabriel. This is James, he's not very welcoming," the guy with kind eyes said.
I nodded stubbornly, then huffed, "I'm Miykal."
"Ok, lets get to work," James scuffed. His eyes stayed fixated on the map.
"Alright, they're dropping us here," Gabriel pointed to a spot on the map, "that is part of the more jungly region."
James cut in, "They'll give us a big open area underground as our base. This is one of the better bases, covered by the jungle floor, and not up in the sky. We'll want to stay there, and gear up for the first days before going out to destroy others. Most will do the same, so the first days will be easy sailing. They've also said they're supplying two animal of some kind, one piece of armor, some metals, and an anvil."
"What are we going to do with an anvil?" I asked.
"Gabriel knows how to use one. That's one of the reasons he was put on our team. Each team has someone who is good at fighting, someone who is good at smelting and crafting, and then the other person, which would be you, who doesn't know their skillset yet."
I grabbed a chair scattered near and pulled it up to sit.
"So, are we allowed to bring the map with us, to keep our plan, and write in any bases we find and know of?" I questioned, focusing on the red marker in James' hand as he guided it across the paper.
"We will be able to have it, yes. Most teams discard it right away, rookie mistake cause any team can easily find it and find their base from it. We can keep it and keep track of everything, yeah." James explained.
A swift knock came at the doors. Followed straight after was a voice. "Five minutes left, the faculty wants you in the main room soon."
We looked at each other, and James took the map, folding it so others couldn't see our plans.
"May the odds be ever in our favour," Gabriel recited.
"Are you quoting the Hunger Games right now?" I asked, annoyed.
"Soon we'll be stuck with a bunch of other people in the ring. Very similar, except we have bases to destroy aswell," He shrugged. We walked out the doors, pacing down the hall to the main room, where others already waited.
"Now that everyone is here," the lady standing on the stage rang into the microphone, "time for the fun part."
Time to see if we're murderers or dead.
