The school bells just rang, about an hour ago Daniel told me to go straight home so then he can have some time to prepare our Valentine's Day date. Adelle helped me pick out his Valentine's Day gift since, well, we haven't been together for long. We ended up picking out a bottle of cologne and a silver necklace with my initials written in gold on it. I'm extremely excited to see what he got me, but there's still the little bit of fear that he didn't know what to get me since we were together for such a little amount of time. What if he assumed that we weren't going to give each other gifts and now he'll end up feeling bad because I got him something and he didn't get me anything? What if we end up having a fight because of it and break up on Valentine's Day? What if-
"You're quiet right now," Keita points out as he bumps into me at the main doors. "Is everything okay?"
I gulp and nod, "Yeah, just a little nervous."
He shrugs, not really seeming to care, "Oh well, best to get you home so then you can get ready for your date." I silently nod and follow him to his car, wondering where the hell Knox is. "What time is he going to pick you up?"
"He said around five," I respond, searching through the crowd of bodies, trying to find Knox. We only have one class together this semester and it's early in the morning, which he showed up late to, but ever since the second period bell rang, I haven't been able to see him. "Where's Knox?"
Keita looks around at all of the students as they fill up the area, "I don't know, maybe he already started heading home."
"But it's fucking freezing!" I cry, thinking about how mad Knox is going to end up being if he were to actually walk home in this weather.
"How about you call him then?" He suggests, pulling his keys out of his pocket and circling them around his finger.
"Nah," I shake my head, pulling my phone out of my pocket. "Knox doesn't like calling, I'll text him."
Knox contact is the third in my phone, his picture is of his face covered in chocolate icing while he's wearing a fedora and smiling innocently. I don't remember how old we were when we took this, but he still has his baby face in it so probably at the beginning of highschool or before it. The last conversation we had was about going to the mall to get a new video game with him. I told him I couldn't because I had a date with Daniel. He responded with a simple, 'Ok, I hope that you have fun.' We haven't talked since, not even in class.
Finally, mustering up the courage, I start typing up the message, 'Hey, where are you? Want a right home with Keita and I?'
It doesn't take him long to respond, 'I need to be invited in order to get a ride home now?'
I can practically see the hurt in his writing, 'Of course not, but you've just been so distant that I'd figure I'd have to invite you. Do you want a ride or not?'
'Nah,' He responds blankly and continues to type. 'Afia's friends gave me a ride home, so I'm good.'
'Oh, okay,' I respond, not really sure as to why there's a sense of hurt by that fact. 'Well I'll see you later then.'
'Ight.'
"Dry?" Keita asks nonchalantly as he climbs into his car.
I climb into the passenger seat and nod sadly, "Yeah, and he also got a ride with Afia and her friends."
"Well at least we don't have to wait for him then," He mumbles, turning his car on and letting it warm up.
We both are silent for a few minutes, I stare out of the window at all of the students meeting up and walking or driving home together, some waiting for their parents to pick them up, and others walking home on their own. What are the chances that Knox actually got a ride home with Afia and her friends? What if he lied and he's actually walking home in this cold?
Finally, Keita shifts the car into drive and we pull out of the parking lot. Still not talking and instead letting the music fill the silence between us.
I've brushed my hair about six times already, brushed my teeth three times, changed clothes twelve times, and washed my face four times. Daniel texted me just a few minutes ago that he will be at my place to pick me up in about twenty minutes and ever since I got home I was running around, trying to have something to do with myself. He won't tell me where he's taking me and for some reason not even giving me a hint for what to wear. So instead I'm going for something a little casual, a little fancy, and a little sensual. Hopefully he likes me, I don't want to risk him breaking up with me just because it seems like I don't know how to dress.
Finally, after I've rechecked and fluffed my hair for about the hundredth time, I sit down on my bed and check my phone. The moment the screen lights up it dings, Daniel.
'Hey, I'm outside, are you ready?' He messages.
Hastily, I leap off of my bed and sprint upstairs, setting Cerberus off as he barks. My parents have already left for a date, which means that I need to lock up. 'Yeah, I'm ready, just give me a minute.'
'Take your time,' He quickly responds, adding in a little heart emoji that makes my heart leap with joy and ease.
"Cerberus, go lie down!" I order, pointing to the living room. He takes a seat in front of me, smiling excitedly, but when I don't relent he heads straight for the living room and lays down on the couch. "Good boy."
I grab my keys and sprint out of the door, listening as Cerberus' paws speed straight for the door. Locking the door and making sure it's shut, I push my keys back into my pocket and begin heading down the steps. His car is right by my place, his music playing as he and I lock eyes through his windshield.
He gets out of his car, his hair is freshly styled and he somehow manages to look more beautiful than usual. He meets me halfway and I leap into his arms, feeling his biceps tense around me. I feel safe, happy, and comfortable in his arms.
"You're gorgeous," He compliments me, his voice low and he speaks into my ear.
"Not nearly as ravishing as you," I flirt back, wrapping my arms and legs around him, letting him carry me to the car.
He sets me down next to the passenger door and opens it for me, I climb in and he goes around to the other side. Once he gets in he reaches into the backseat, grabbing something wrapped in plastic.
"Close your eyes," He speaks softly, making me feel comfortable enough to trust him with everything. I do so and he grabs something out from the back, though this time I can't tell what it could possibly be. "Alright, open."
My heart skips a beat once I catch sight of everything he got me. Bright red roses, a whole bouquet of them, and a heart shaped box which most likely has chocolate in it. My voice raises up multiple decibels, the same level of when a girl sees a puppy, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
"Are you ready for our date?" He asks, smiling excitedly.
"Where are we going?" I ask, contemplating if I should give him his gifts now or later.
"It's a surprise," He grins, pulling out of the parking spot and heading onto the road. "And I think that you'll love it."
Placing my hand on his shoulder, I gaze into his eyes as he focuses on the road, "I'm loving everything already."
