It seemed it was about afternoon, part of the day when Samuel would usually eat dinner and drink his favourite hot chocolate . Teoretically he could have whole time, but how long it would remain his favourite then.
Longer is something happening, it become more indifferent to you or even annoying. Samuel knew a thing or two about that, following his stride throught mist that appeared moments after his little confrontation with those ugly puppies.
Drifting for some time throught dense, lazily flowing fog was already unpleasant experience. It took him whole five minutes to lost sense of direction. Only option that remained was hoping he will come across something.
Similarly to when teprerature was reaching the highest possible digits outside, he felt somehow uncomplete, like he couldn't simply stop or end to start again fresh and new. Similarly to sweat, smelly pulp made of puppies remains was impossible to clean off, lingering to him in unpleasant way.
Despite travelling for at least an ten hours, nothing changed. It was still as bright as before, terrain represented the same mash of dirt and bones with occasional stripes of grass. His body also felt the same , regardless of amount of kilometers he had run .
Even his legs, those he had dangling around before incident, somehow didn't feel any special. There wasn't anything exotic or magical in using them, as if he have been like that since birth, which was even more disturbing. Should he celebrate or something?
Nah, it was neither natural, nor logical . Besides what would he do, start running, jumping while cheering like some weirdo, no chance.
As he was pondering about his position in this whole mess Samuel, jumped over another rift in the ground, Moment he landed on other side his foot got into some crack on the ground, he had a thing for tripping. Cursing he released his leg and kicked the ground digging half of it into dirt.
He stopped. He had to, he could not bear this longer.
"God fucking dammit !" . Samuel sat on the ground trying to collect himself. He crossed his legs, imitating monks he saw once on Internet and tried to empty his mind. No matter how hard he tried, angry thoughts got better of him.
No matter what sent him to this hell hole, it will pay for this. He won't forgive being thrown into this empty nightmare. The fact he could walk only amplified irony. Free and caged in giant prison at the same time .
All he hoped, it wouldn't end up with him waking up, it would mean his own brain is conspiring againts him, and then what ?
His sight fell on one of the fingerless gloves he had on hands. Garments were the only clue about his whereabouts. While he had impression he had came across something like them, he couldn't call it.
Samuel schrugged off things wandering inside his head. He had to fucus.
First he had to establish his goals, ok.
So first and foremost he needs to find someone to call police or anyone who might be able to tell him where he is. Next is, to find out what happened to his body. Forget about clothes, something must have happened to his body, it's to slim, pale and hair is to long and white for some reason. He didn't remember having that kind of strenght and senses so precise either.
"Well, easier said than done" Having said that, Leonard's heart got little ligter after he finally made a plan. Now he had to execute him, but perhaps, perhaps it is better to wait for someone. Parents always said to wait for someone to find you if you get lost after all.
Mentioning his, earlier suspected kidnappers made him stiff. Nonononono, that is what they expect him to do, so obviously it's a trap.
Fired up, Samuel scrambled up from thin carpet of short grass, ready for another trip. While he was getting up, his ear caught a sound . It was a regural rumble, slowly getting more and more loud
"Ohh, right in time. Come on, there my antidepressant." Finally he will have a chance to have some fun. He haven't spot any of these things since he took out those he came across when he woke up.
He turned towards where the sound was coming from ready, slightly bented to prepare for charging monster. When it was about fifty meters from his position, he finally saw it . What Samuel dealt with before was nothing compared to the being he had before him.
It was enormous, about a size of fully grown elephant. Yet instead of trunk and big flappy ears, it's could be only called one big needle cushion. Bones, claws, teeths, and many other body parts were pertruding out of almost every piece of it's skin that itself was numerous times more gross version of what he came across before.
The moment Samuel spot it , went motionless, beast did it too. One thing was a big dog, elephant definitely other. Monster began to twist slowly it's head in every direction.
"Ok, he somehow still haven't noticed me" Samuel breatched a little easier, glad for his body transformation. Small relief though, as in exact same moment it's massive body set it's rotten muscles on.
He stepped back. Step after step. For each one Samuel did three. It went on for ten meters, fifteen, twently and then stopped. Enormous head started shifting again, leaving Samuel dumbfounded.
He was aware had to make a good use of this time. In spite of the stress he began to analyse situation. Something had changed, but what ? If it saw him from afar, why it stopped now, when it was much closer.
Beast began to walk on the side slowly, but definitely faster than before. So far it went better than he anticipated, however Samuel somehow sensed it didn't let him off the hook.
His eyes wandered after it's body, as it back was gently engulfed by weil of mist with tips dispersing into rest far before monster it. Dazzling sight, resembling a weil carried by invisible force... and then it struck him.
"Son of a bastard!" It never used the sense of sight, only the one of smell!
Best wanted to position itself on windward side, so his smell could come to whatever it used to detect it. No chance.
Samuel began to run in the same direction as quiet as he could since he could only guess about it's sense of hearing. He managed to cover roughly the same distance before monster stopped.
It started again shifting it's head, but now only towards where weak breeze was coming from. Just as he expected. Samuel got out a silent grump of self-satisfaction proud of his great intellect. When he wondered what next, he got a vicious idea.
Samuel's common sense fought waliantly agains himfor whole second, butfailed miserably.
He took one of the bones laying around and began to smear it with ooze he still had on robes and head, all while the shifts of giant's head got more and more violent.
Prepared weapon Samuel grabbed by thinner end, and with all strenght he could muster threw into fog . It was an amazing one. Bone flew so fast in was engulfed near intantly. All seemed calm again, until that moment.
Like an anthen catching signal, one of the biggest bones pointed towards a point and then whole body took off.
Ground under it's legs cracked when it's massiwe limbs took off. It charged into the mist with a terrifying loud growl-like sound strong enought to send residing mist into every direction. For a second area around it was completely clear. Great, now Sam definitely wasn't eager to be around when it finds out about his little sheme.
Silent as a shadow he run off, deciding to use traces made by elephant previously. Better that than wandering without any orientation,
At last miasma started dispersing. At first it got only slightly less dense from time to time, but as he was keept progressing throught same scenery Samuel could see further and further ahead.
He had no idea how big was the area covered by fog, but last few hours he was sprinting like a mad throught a road made of big dumb footprints, what could have only meant full area was huge.
He slovered the pace to walk again glad for some reason that first signs of fatigue actually to actually kicked in, at least it was a change. Samuel so far haven't decided if he prefers it to be a dream or new reality for real, when pros and cons weren't fully known to him.
Next few minutes and greish clouds were now only a loosely connected to each other revealing a great vastness behind them, still without anything eatable.
Food was the biggest problem. In the past Samuel was a boy who didn't mind a big meal. For now local fauna and flora was definitely out of question, therefore Samuel had to figure out something fast, as the hunger slowly but steady made his belly more and more in demand of nice treat.
Well, for that he need to actually find something.
Samuel bend his legs, tense whole body and released whole pressure in one jump. It was a trick he had found out while ago while in densest part of the fog. There it hadn't much of a use. Sheer force sent him ten meters into air where nothing obstructed his sight.
While in air he rotated himself to make sure he didn't miss anything . He saw stars as clearly as if he had a telescope or something. Well, considering it should propably be night, credits should be given again to his anormal powers.
On horizon eyes a piece of blue contrasting with brown and weak green stood out of the rest. To make sure it wasn't just a mirage he repeated jump. Low and behold it was still here.
"Blue means water, water means life, life means food." Yes Samuel was right. He landed like a cat and instantly changed the course.
Last few clouds dispersed in front of him, he was already only few hundread meters from the lake, or rather a big pond containing suprisingly clear water.
Around it few small bushes could be seen, but nothing seemed to have fruits or similiar eatable things.
Samuel overcame last meters with long stride and halted just before the surface sending small stones, abundant on the shore, everywhere.
Well, for now he can rest here and try look for something interesting, perhaps catch fish. Fishing wasn't a knowdle Samuel had but maybe he can just catch them with his godly reflexes.
But first and foremost water. He had to clean his body. Samuel wasn't exactly sure how to remove his armor so for now decided it's enought to simply clean ooze off the head.
He reached his hand into unknown depts to pour some water, but as he did it his body leaned and it struck him, his face. Even if he expected his body went throught unknown process he didn't expect something like that.
Observing him was a white porcelain doll with big eye's of mixed violet and gold. He knew this face, it was his game avatar.
