THE SEEER-YAL KILLER

As Santina was adept in reading someone's character, she found a good way to affect Daniel's decision making and that was through inflating the other party's ego and as expected, Daniel took the bait.

"We have done very well, with what we have got."

The lawyer agreed to her readily. He replied with a puffed chest and a chin held high. His nose was sticking on the air and he had his cocky smile on his lips, making it obvious that he was definitely proud of himself as well as the things that he had done so far in the Bureau.

"Of course you have. And right now, Attorney Sapiro, all we want you to do is read every detail of the report. We tried to create a very accurate profile of the killer."

This time, it was Mikael who expressed his agreement. Finally seeing the road that Santina was trying to take, Mikael decided to join her. Anton on the other hand remained silent on the side and allowed the two to do their thing.

The aspiring priest leaned forward to his seat and put his arms on top of the table across Daniel, and threading his fingers together, he spoke directly to him. Perfectly imitating Santina's mannerism.

It was unsure if he was doing that consciously or it just so happen that he unknowingly developed the same mannerism over time as a result of spending a considerable length of time together with the young professor

"Listen, Mr. Sapiro. We are not trying to trash your efforts here. But I believe that there is also no need for us to tell you anymore how this same technique that we are using right now in conducting our investigation had already attained significant results and successes in the past. You of all the people should know about this, don't you? In fact, you are far more up-to-date in the developments of the international law enforcement community than any of us here."

There was a momentarily gleam in Daniel's eyes when he heard Mikael said that and although it was gone as soon as it appeared, Mikael's eyes were still able to catch it.

The look that Daniel had in his eyes was the face of someone that knew he had the authority over someone, and he obviously took pleasure to it.

There was a light of pleasure shining in his eyes as he sat on his chair, feeling all superior. The same air of superiority that one usually took whenever they feel like someone was desperately trying to get their cooperation.

"Work with us here, Mr. Sapiro."

Mikael urged him and Santina seconded him right away.

"For what we do know about this case, the mutilations were just as significant as the kill itself. Our killer was not doing it out of random reason. This man, whoever he is, he was not only deliberately peeling of the face of his victims. He was also eviscerating their body and purging out their organs, particularly their hearts.----"

"And, and, and, he is removing the penis. Don't forget that. The killer was deliberately removing the victim's genitals."

Daniel interjected with a roguish smile but Santina decided to ignore this and continued.

She wanted to second Mikael's persuasion to the other party and so she used the most persuasive tone that she could ever muster.

"As I am saying, it was like the killer wanted to remove everything that made one human. If I would dare claim, we are actually dealing with a-------"

Yet before she could even finish saying her piece again, Daniel for the umpteenth time cut her off in mid-sentence.

"Yes, yes... I know. A serial killer..."

Daniel said his words ever so slowly with a mocking gravity in his voice especially when he mentioned the word 'serial killer.'

He made it sound as though the 'r' in his serial was rolling in his tongue, that it already sounded more of 'seeer-yal' instead. The corner of his mouth quirked up a little and his lips curled in an expression of slightly amused sarcasm.

This sarcastic remark of his, however, managed to snap the final strand of Mikael's patience and so before Santina could even do anything to sort things out together, her companion already rose from his seat.

The other party's abrupt and not to say, forceful action almost knocked his chair backward in the process.

"Come on, Tina. We are wasting our time here."

Mikael said and acted as though he was about to leave, but Santina caught his hand and stopped him from taking any further step.
