Home - Gary

Once Gary stepped inside the house, he instantly longed for the freedom of school. His gaze hovering over all the tiny details of the house he'd grown up in. It suffocated him. The pressure of being a mayor's son was only half of it. He made his way over to the grand staircase at the end of the giant entrance. His fingers traced the intricate details of the bannister as he climbed up the wooden steps. It was all so familiar. His mind replayed some of his childhood memories which although happy only brought the all too familiar pain that he'd suffered for the last few years, bubbling to the surface.

After dropping his bags off in his room, he decided to make his way over to his father's office since the old man hadn't had time to break from his work to welcome him home. Gary hesitated in front of the door. The last time he'd been in there, his father had granted his only possible wish... Now he wished it had worked out.

He stepped into the room cautiously, it suddenly seemed like all the Sheffield ancestors were watching his every move, stalking him. A shiver ran down his spine as he felt guilt creep into his stomach infecting everything it touched. He had dishonoured the Sheffield name. He would be lucky if his father was only disappointed.

Gary lowered himself onto the stool not meeting his father's eyes. He knew all he'd see was failed expectations and riled up anger.
