Gary nervously fiddled with his jeans, suddenly very uncomfortable in them. He thought of some of the other times he'd been in here. Once he'd drawn all over the walls just to have some friends to play with... he had got in a lot of trouble for that... Even though he was the mayor's son, he was still disciplined like any child - maybe even harsher - since his father had wanted him to be a reliable hardworking man like himself.
Then his father cleared his throat. Gary trembled slightly, he could feel his father's eyes burning into him. "Look at me Gary." His father demanded. However, in his shame, Gary couldn't bring himself to. He was certain the school had called his father about the terrible things "he'd" done. He heard his father sigh deeply. "Gary, look at me." His tone was harsher now and Gary slowly complied, lifting his eyes up to his father's.
He didn't see anger though... Or disappointment or dishonour. Gary was very confused by this revelation. Maybe his father hadn't heard? Gary thought.
His father laughed a hearty laugh at Gary's confusion. He smiled knowing his father didn't laugh very often. "Oh Gary! You should have seen your face!" He exclaimed, hitting the desk with a fist as he laughed. "My boy! I'm so glad that you're home again finally!" He started. Gary smiled, glad that his father was happy about his return. He felt all the nerves inside his stomach dissipate rapidly...
