"Are you alright?" A voice asked me. I slowly Peeled open my eyes. A piecing bright light caused me to squint. It was the sun? I shot up to my feet instantly and got a good look at my surroundings. I was surrounded by overgrown grass and field. Wildflowers bloomed from the ground and in the distance I could make out a thick bush of trees.
I turned to the person that was standing in front of me, it was a man.
This man appeared to be in his early twenties fit, tall, and well equipped. His skin was tan and his hair jet black. He looked at me with soft brown eyes that complimented his overtly handsome features.
"Are you alright?" He repeated.
I didn't answer but just looked around in a state of bewilderment.
I glanced down at myself noticing I wasn't wearing my pajamas I'd worn the morning before. Instead I had on blue jeans, a leather satchel and a white tank. My feet were covered in thick heavy boots the same kind my father made me wear when he use to take me camping as a kid.
The man had on similar clothing and in the pocket of his pants I could see the black handle of a knife poking out.
I stepped back defensively.
"Where am I?" I asked looking him in the eye I could feel the tremble in my own voice.
"I don't know" he answered solemnly.
My face contorted in confusion.
What was going on?
Birds chirped aloud all around and the sky reflected a brilliant blue. It was beautiful where we were but how did I get here and why.
I was abducted I know that much for sure and if anything I'd have expected to wake up in a cellar restrained with bondage. This was better though, altleast I was outside I could run if need be, I reassured myself.
"My name is Joseph what's yours?" He inquired taking a step closer only to be matched with me going back another step. He caught the hint and stayed in place but still seeming to want me to answer the question.
"R-Riley that's my name" I replied with a stutter. We stood there peering at one another for what felt like forever but In all actually was only a few seconds.
"You really don't have any idea why we're here or even how we got here?" I patronized hoping to get some useful information out of him.
He shrugged his shoulders and shook his head. I groaned. Running my fingers through my hair, I gripped it at its roots in frustration.
On one side of the field there was miles and miles of thick forest and on the other lay open empty fields of grass and purple wildflowers. I didn't want to get lost in the forest so maybe if I started off in the other direction I might come in contact with civilization, I hoped.
I turned from the man and started off. I sped walked and behind me I could hear the man hot on my heels protesting for me to stay put.
"What the hell is your problem?!" I shouted in his face, annoyance laced deeply in my tone.
He held his hands up in defense and quickly backed away from me appearing apologetic.
"Just listen. You can't go that way they won't let us" he said gesturing off into the distance.
My eyebrows connected together in confusion.
What was he talking about 'they'?
"Just see for yourself" he finished crossing his arms. I looked at him a moment longer before turning around to continue. I made it a few more feet until I smacked hard into what felt like a glass doom. What the fuck?
I placed my hands out in front of me and they meet a wall. What was this? On the other side I could still see the vast field ahead and the tall grass swaying back and fourth in the breeze.
The wall glitched from my touch distorting the view of the picture. I stepped back in complete and utter terror. This was insane.
"What is this!?" I cried out.
All hope that I had was completely drained in that moment and the dread quickly seeped back in.
"Listen I don't know exactly what that thing is but it's there for a reason" Joseph explained re-emerging next to me.
"And what reason is that?" I asked gawking at the invisible wall.
"To trap us."
