Su Shaoyan looked at Wei Jingyu's retreating back and said, "He seems somewhat different."
Shi Weiwei said in a small voice, "He seems lonely."
Ying Xuan said nothing as she continued to gaze at Wei Jingyu's back for a second longer than the other two. She then turned to them and asked, 'So, what do you say? Should we go watch?'
Su Shaoyan: "It might be a good idea to see how selections are carried out. Anyway tiring ourselves out before the trials does not seem like something I would like to do."
Ying Xuan turned towards Weiwei, who shrugged, "I'm here to watch the trials anyway. But you guys head there first, I'll just grab a snack from the cafeteria."
Su Shaoyan: "I'll come with you. I could use a bit of caffeine right now."
As the two headed out of the building, Ying Xuan headed towards the volleyball court on the ground floor.
Xuan walked over to the stands and sat down among the crowd. The people trying out were sitting on the benches closest to the court. Ying Xuan caught Wei Jingyu's eye and he smiled and got up. Xuan lost him for a minute in the crowd, but Jingyu emerged soon enough beside Ying Xuan.
He sat down and said, "I'm glad you decided to come."
Ying Xuan: 'I had nothing better to do anyway.'
Wei Jingyu: "Hey you...."
Ying Xuan looked enquiringly at him. "You look really nice." Jingyu finished, a little red in the face.
Ying Xuan chuckled, 'Thanks. Is it so difficult to compliment me?'
Wei Jingyu shook his head, "Of course not. I guess I'm just too much of a coward."
Ying Xuan: 'I think you should go back. You'll miss your chance otherwise.'
Wei Jingyu's face fell. But he nodded and got up. As he was about to leave, Ying Xuan tapped his back and signed, 'Good luck. And you look nice too.'
Wei Jingyu chuckled and said, "That's something mandatory to say when someone gives you a compliment. Anyway, thanks." He then disappeared into the crowd once again.
Shi Weiwei and Su Shaoyan returned shortly and joined Ying Xuan.
"Has the trial started?" Su Shaoyan asked as he took a seat beside Xuan.
'Yes. Watch.' Xuan signed and they immediately became engrossed in the trial.
Needless to say, Wei Jingyu was the best among all the people trying. He was chosen on the spot and the volleyball coach even hinted that he would be made the captain.
The boys went out of the court, presumably to shower, and the girls trial started. Ying Xuan was dumbstruck by the level of difference between the boys and the girls. It seemed like most of the girls were not even trying to hit the ball in the court as it kept flying here and there. The director seemed tired as he said next to one girl after the other. "If the basketball girls are like that too, my position in the team is fixed." Xuan thought to herself as she watched the trials.
Obviously, all the girls were not like that. Some were rather good, but they were like a single fish in a whole ocean.
Soon, a very tall and rather broad girl came onto the court for the trial. She seemed about average as she played. Some of her hits fell outside the court, but some were rather good.
