She had been physically hit by the realization, and it was a wonder that she hadn't run away, screaming for her life.
Xuan had actually begun to feel a little light-headed as they walked, and she would have given anything right now for Wei Jingyu to lead her away from this hall right now. All that Ying Xuan was able to focus on right now was how fast her heart was beating and how difficult it seemed to be to breathe. She hadn't noticed that they had stopped walking, or that Wei Jingyu had been staring at her face for the past few seconds.
"Everything all right?" These words and Jingyu's hand on her shoulder brought Xuan out of her mind. She looked into his eyes, and knew that she didn't need to explain. He knew, he already knew what was happening. And as his lips twitched into a reassuring smile and his eyes melted into puddles of caramel, she knew, she knew that everything would be all right. That Jingyu would take care of her.
All the tension drained out of Ying Xuan as she looked into Jingyu's eyes, while he placed his right hand on the small of her back and pulled her slightly closer to himself. Not close enough for it to be inappropriate, but close enough that Xuan could feel the heat emancipating from his body. He next lightly held her chin with his left hand and tilted her face upward, and Ying Xuan blushed upon thinking what her boyfriend was about to do.
But all he did was bend his head down and rest his forehead against her's. Jingyu chuckled upon feeling Xuan's flushed skin and muttered, "Get your mind out of the gutter."
Ying Xuan pouted upon being teased thus, but she could not hold back the smile that spread on her lips. He really was a bad influence on her. "We're fine. Right?" Wei Jingyu asked, bringing Xuan's attention back to his light brown eyes, impossibly closed.
Xuan gave him a little nod, their foreheads still touching, and the stage was suddenly filled with lights as on cue. A slow song started two seconds later and Wei Jingyu grasped Xuan's right hand into his left, and with one of his hand still on her back, both of them began to sway to the music.
Ying Xuan had to put her free hand on his shoulder, mostly because she did not like it hanging freely, and a little to steady herself. Though she had been trained in most of the dance forms since she was a kid, Xuan had to admit that Wei Jingyu was rather good. He led her with such grace and precision that it was all Xuan could do to keep up. She had little time to register that the movements she was doing were of a waltz between all those twirls and twists, let alone worry that she was dancing in front of hundreds of people.
And before she knew it, the music stopped and both of them came to a stop. Ying Xuan blinked as Wei Jingyu steadied her and both of them bowed to the audience. It was when the whole hall erupted with thunderous applause that Xuan realized that the song had finished.
