Chapter 7: Skills

Our MC has been training for three weeks since the gender swap incident, and finally has made progress on his stats.

Name: Jason Arm

ATTRIBUTE: Unknown

STR: 150

AGI: 80

Now he is able to beat most monsters around the forest solo.

Reyia: Wow! That's a huge jump! You're close to being able to do a breakthrough.

Jason: The hell is a breakthrough?

Reyia: A breakthrough is when someone holds off on leveling up and pushes their stats as far as they can.

Jason: (Hmm...I think I read a light novel with a system like that.) Still, it sucks to not be able to get skills until level five.

Reyia: There is a way to get past that...it is just gonna take a while.

Jason: Really!? What is it?

Reyia: We would need to go to the church and put in a request for a god to remove the limit.

Jason: (For fuck's sake, like hell that is gonna work...if I just outright refuse to even try Reyia may get suspicious. Maybe I should tell her about my reincarnation and about how that goddess apparently hates my guts.) Yo Reyia that's probably not gonna work.

Reyia: Huh? If we don't try we will never know. Why do you think it won't work?

Jason: Would you believe me if I told you I was reincarnated into this world?

Reyia: What?! Well if you were reincarnated it would explain you being in the forest with little to nothing, and not knowing about the world...but what about the story about you having been living in the forest?

Jason: Clever cover story I came up with on the spot.

Reyia: Okay, you were reincarnated but that should make it easier since the god that reincarnated you would be the one to see the request. Why would it be harder?

Jason: That's the issue, the goddess that reincarnated me didn't have a very good opinion about me. If we send a request the best-case scenario is she just throws the request away.

Reyia: And worst-case is what?

Jason: She could do the opposite and make my life a living hell, as punishment for wasting her time.

Reyia: Hmm, that may be what that random skill that showed was...you may have irritated her somehow. But I think you should still check into the church to see if she can remove the limit.

Jason: (Sigh) alright but if she smites me I will haunt your ass.

Our Mc and Reyia make their way to the church and a priest comes up to them.

???: Welcome to the church. I am Priest Marx, Pleasure to meet you. Now then can I ask what you needed the church for on this fine day?

Jason:..I need to make a request to remove the level limit on my skills.

Marx: Ah I see, I'll see you to the waiting area while our oracle makes contact with the gods. Please do note that the gods are very busy, so this may take a few hours.

The priest leads them into a waiting area, and they take a seat. Our MC takes note of three statues, one of which he recognizes as the goddess that reincarnated him.

Jason: Hey Reyia judging from the fact that one of the statues is the goddess that reincarnated me, am I right to assume the others are gods as well.

Reyia: Yes the gods are, the goddess of the soul Lyra, the goddess of life Muse, and the god of earth Fyre.

Jason: (For some reason those names sound familiar.)

Marx: Excuse me, but the oracle has managed to connect to goddess Lyra.

After saying that he leads you both into a room with an orb in the center.

Marx: This orb is for communicating with the gods, you allow your mind to enter so that you appear before the god in spiritual form. Well then, I'll leave you to it.

The priest leaves you and Reyia alone in front of the orb.

Reyia: Why did you want me with you again?

Jason: I'm hedging my bet. She probably won't be too terrible to me if I have another person with me...you know appearances and all that.

Reyia: Right...that makes a little sense.

Jason: (SIGH) Right let's do this.

They touch the orb and their minds are instantly transported to a white space with the goddess sitting in the middle.

Lyra: We meet again...oh you have a friend with you...(Why the fuck is she with him?!)

Reyia: My name is Reyia, it's an honor to meet you.

Lyra: Well then Reyia I am the goddess Lyra, it's nice meeting you. I'm glad that you have manners, unlike that sack of disappointment over there.

Jason: Oh cmon I was hoping she would keep you from doing that.

Lyra: Oh hush now, people who die in dumb ways can't complain when people mock them for it.

Jason: Can we just get to the point of why I came here?

Lyra: Ah yes, the limit, I have some unfortunate news for you.

Jason: Why am I not surprised?

Lyra: The skills you have are rather strong, and if I unseal them too early your body won't be able to handle them and you will be ripped apart.

Jason: How bad are we talking about here?

Lyra: Slowly, painfully, and from the cellular level.

Jason: ... (Sigh) is there any good news?

Lyra: Yes, I can reduce the level requirement to three, however that's pushing it and your body will be under strain that will make you feel pain kind of like growth pains.

Jason: And that is different from how my body was before...how exactly?

Lyra: Actually that's a fair point, you were like a walking pain factory.

Reyia: Umm, what do you mean?

Jason: Oh, in the world I was in previously I did military work for a while, and got some nasty injuries that caused me to have lasting chronic pain, after a while, I got used to it and developed a high pain tolerance.

Reyia: That sounds awful, I hope you don't have to go through that again.

Jason: It's fine, the pain I went through was a good opportunity for personal growth. You don't get stronger without getting injured every now and again.

Lyra: Wow actually insightful commentary, wasn't expecting that. Right, I'll lower the skill requirements, and give you both a small blessing.

Reyia: Umm, what do you mean both?

Lyra: Your a kind girl that puts up with him, so I thought you deserve a blessing as my thanks for making sure he doesn't get himself killed.

Reyia: Oh that's no problem, someone has to do it.

Jason: Why does everyone think I'm helpless?

Lyra/Reyia: Cause you are.

After the simultaneous answers, Lyra lowers the skill requirements and gives the blessings and sends them both on their way.

Muse walks in after they leave.

Muse: You gave her a blessing too?

Lyra: I had misjudged her, she changed my opinion of her after speaking to her for a while.

Muse: (Chuckle) Well well well, it's nice to see you maturing a bit.

Lyra: I admit that the things I did before weren't very mature, but now I can see how he does in his new life. I'm glad that he's making new friends, even if I have to share him with them.

Muse: that's good, let's see if he can make the most out of his new life.
