Chapter 10 What The F*ck?

When Chen Fei finished school for the day he immediately went straight towards Water Moon City's Branch of the Holy Fossil Consortium. About halfway through the day he had received a message regarding the deliver of his Perennial Spinosaurus Spine Fossil which unconsciously brought a smile to his face.

The reason why Fossil Knights were so dangerous in combat was because they could command a multitude of different revived fossils in battle. The number and quality obviously depended on how strong the Fossil Knight was, however Copper Fossil Knights could possess 1 or 2 revived fossils, depending on how strong the Knight was.

Revived fossils weren't only useful in battles either.

Some Fossil Knights brought back massive flying beasts that existed millions of years ago such as the Pteranodon and the Quetzacoatlus huge wingspans often exceeded 10 metres or more. Some fossils that specialised in tracking targets, like bears or sharks that can detect smell or movement from dozens of kilometres away.

Some people even tried to revive the fossils of ancient humans, attempting to learn or discover the evolutionary process from humanities ancestors to the modern human.

However, most revived ancient human fossils often showed extremely similar traits to humanity in terms of culture and social interaction. Other than the fact that they could perform some battle techniques and footwork movements, they only made good better bait than anything else.

"A Spinosaurus won't have that problem. A normal Spinosaurus was both a land based and aquatic dinosaur. Its thick, paddle like tail allowed it to propell itself through water that is also flexible enough to use as a whip if the need ever comes around. The spine, or sail rather was used as both a organ that performed thermoregulation throughout the body in addition to serving a hydrodynamic purpose underwater. The claws on its forearms are roughly 6-7 inches long and on its hind legs the claws are about 10 or so inches. Spinosaurus is primarily a bipedal dinosaur, however does utilise its arms and runs as a quadruped if the situation calls for it. It may not be as strong as a Tyrannosaurus, however this is not a normal Spinosaurus".

Chen Fei smiled as he walked through the massive doors of the Holy Fossil Consortium. Several workers on their breaks could be seen sitting in the various chairs near the cafe and a few dozen civilians could be seen either lining up or talking with the receptionists, obviously inquiring about a job.

Anyone could set any kind of job so long as it didn't break any laws. At least, that's what the general public knew.

With enough zeroes at the end of a reward, the any of the Three Big Ones would accept any sort of request. Chen Fei couldn't prove it, but he knew that anything ranging from kidnapping to murder was acceptable to the Holy Fossil Association.

And that was excluding the active bounties they had out on people.

Walking towards a door with two armed mortal guards standing out front, Chen Fei waved his Holy Library in front of the scanner, causing a pleasant sounding ding to echo out before walking forward through the now open door.

This section of the Holy Fossil Consortium was only avaliable to Knights, and the very limited amount of personal with clearance high enough to enter. Like the receptionist that guided Chen Fei towards the supercomputer a few days ago.

"Chen Fei. Fossil Knight ID: 409556001. I received a message regarding the Perennial Fossil the Consortium would give me".

The worker standing at the Trading Post went wide eyed and pointed at Chen Fei with an astonished expression.

"So you're the new Fossil Knight in Water Moon City! I thought that Emily was joking but when a Fossil Knight from the capital came and dropped this massive fossil off, I knew that I had to see you for myself".

Chen Fei nodded and smiled as he signed his name on the sheet of paper in front of him. It was just a form of insurance for the Holy Fossil Consortium so that in the event that Chen Fei either stolen or broken his Perennial Fossil, they wouldn't have to gift him another one.

Some Fossil Knights tried to do that when they got a fossil that they didn't like and tried to loop the system to get a new one. Obviously, they ended up getting a new fossil and the Consortium had to change its rules regarding packages and free fossils.

The worker from across the glass panel extended his hand through the gap in the bulletproof glass and shook Chen Fei's hand.

"I'm Tobias by the way. Huge fan of all Fossil Knights. My father is a Silver Human Knight working in this branch and they gave me this job due to his high status. I'm pretty lucky, but definitely not as lucky as you!".

Chen Fei nodded and picked up the massive Spinosaurus Fossil with a single arm. He had to rest it on his shoulder so that he wouldn't drop it, but the package itself was probably over twenty or so kilograms.

"To be honest I didn't think I would become a Fossil Knight. Some of my..... blood relatives are Knights but my mother wasn't. I was just hoping to become a Human Knight and follow the rest of my relatives. But looks like things are a little bit more complicated than that".

Tobias rolled his eyes and nodded.

"Of course! Water Moon City only has a population of about ten million people so there are roughly about a thousand or so Knights active in the City. Out of a thousand people, there are two Fossil Knights. Yourself, and the branch manager. People are talking Chen Fei, they may not know you now, but they will in the future".

Chen Fei gave a small smile before waving Tobias off and heading towards the exit. He made a note to remember the names of every member of personnel working within the Knights section of the Consortium, as every single one of them was someone probably worth knowing since they could get a job in there of all places.

Just look at Tobias. He was a mortal that was in charge of all the mail and packages going in or out of the Branch. His father was a Silver Human Knight and his connections were definitely a lot more valuable and resourceful than Chen Fei's.

People like this were worth knowing.

"Friends in high places are always a good thing. Having connections and resources avaliable to you is never not something good to- sh*t!", exclaimed Chen Fei as a human shaped figure came running around a corner, narrowly avoiding Chen Fei carrying his Spinosaurus Fossil.

If this fossil broke it would lose some of the spiritual essence contained inside. It was already incomplete, giving him only 10 out of roughly 16 spinal bones so it was definitely weaker than when compared to a complete Spinosaurus Spinal Fossil.

Luckily this fossil was a Variant type Fossil, otherwise Chen Fei might be losing out on this deal.

Frowning deeply and adjusting his posture so that the fossil wouldn't get damaged, Chen Fei turned and looked at the human shaped figure on the floor behind him. Regardless of whether the figure was masculine or feminine he was sure to give this person a piece of his mind if he or she were to bump into someone again.

"Why don't you watch where you're going alright! This isn't a goddamn playground you know?! If I had dropped this, I swear I would make you pay for every piece that broke!".

"..... ow", was the only thing the figure sprawlled out on the floor could say.

The person on the floor stood up quicker than Chen Fei thought they would and brushed their jeans and jumper off, even though no dust or dirt would be found in this facility. It just seemed more muscle memory than common sense as the young woman in front of Chen Fei turned around and gave a small bow.

"Sorry about that. I was in a bit of a hurry you see, my friends are waiting for me outside and I just received both their and my mail from back home. We just got off the road after about a month so we're all dying to get our fan-mail and messages from family and friends. Once again I'm really sorry!".

Chen Fei was about to continue berating this woman but seemed a little off put by her sincere apology. She was definitely older than Chen Fei, yet she was bowing as if she was honoring her grandparents.

He waved it off trying to get her to stand up straight.

"Uh, just watch out next time. You're obviously a Knight so if you were to run into a worker they might get injured or something. Just, don't run in the hallways, okay?".

Chen Fei internally frowned as his words made him seem like some sort of middle-aged man berating his daughter at his place of work. It wasn't that the feeling was uncomfortable, it was just a little weird since he had never done it before.

The young woman in front of him let out a deep sigh and stopped bowing, opting to stand up straight as she simultaneously turned around and saluted Chen Fei. He only got a glimpse of her face, however the majority of it was covered by both a sports cap and thick jumper which blocked some of Chen Fei's vision.

"Okay thanks bye!~".

The young woman, completely ignoring Chen Fei's baffled expression as she ran off full speed towards the end of the hallway, turning a corner and leaving Chen Fei's line of sight.

The image of an extremely pretty girl with a hyperactive personality was somehow embedded into Chen Fei's mind as a curious, yet confused expression marred his face.

He couldn't help but say-.

"What the f*ck?".
