Chapter 11 Summoning and Contract

Throwing the image of a beautiful girl with a hyperactive personality to the back of his mind, Chen Fei left the Holy Fossil Consortium and started walking towards the university which Kim Baek Hyeon's labratory resided, carrying the over twenty kilogram Spinosaurus Fossil on his shoulder.

Since he had started stimulating the spiritual power within him, and diluting the spiritual essence within the wellspring in his heart, Chen Fei had found that while his body may not have physically changed, his strength, speed and stamina had increased greatly.

So long as he had spiritual power to burn, his base physical attributes would be strengthened greatly. However, when his spiritual power ran out, a wave of fatigue and mental strain would overcome Chen Fei, leaving him no different to a completely normal mortal human.

If his first heart wellspring were to be completely diluted and transformed from spiritual essence into spiritual power, his physical body would be strengthened naturally, creating a gateway from the external world to the internals of his body, passively absorbing spiritual essence and refining it into spiritual power.

This is why Cultivation Methods were so important. Having one that can open more than one spiritual wellspring could be the difference between life and death.

Dr Kim's "Boundless" Cultivation Method was exactly what Chen Fei needed in order to become strong, however, how the doctor managed to create such a method baffled even Chen Fei.

As the days passed and Chen Fei gradually adapted to his life as a Fossil Knight, he finally realized how important Boundless was to Knights, and the potential that it created for Knights as a whole.

"If all Knights can unlock all the spiritual wellsprings in their body, than the only difference between them would be their combat techniques and revived fossils. It would even the playing field for everyone, not just myself.....".

Chen Fei frowned at the thought before letting out a sigh as he shook his head negatively.

"For now I'll keep my guard up when I'm with Dr Kim. Regardless of whether his intentions are good or bad, I need him right now to help me fine tune Boundless for my personal use. I don't have the knowledge or the skill required to change or alter a Cultivation Method so he is definitely useful in the short term..... But if something were to happen just before the release of Boundless to the general public, then perhaps the Cultivation Method would get buried along with him.....".

If Boundless did as both Dr Kim and Chen Fei hoped, than it would be obvious that Chen Fei wouldn't like something that gave him a unique advantage over others to be shared. Whether it was greed or selfishness that caused this Chen Fei didn't know.

All he knew, was that Boundless only belonged him him in the current time. Keeping it that way was a high priority of his, even if he had to take measures into his own hands.

Entering the keycode into the large, thick metal door into Kim Baek Hyeon's labratory, Chen Fei walked into the still half-messy, half-immaculate looking room giving a wave to Dr Kim as he set down the large fossils on one of the empty benches in the room.

The University Professor gave Chen Fei a wide smile before glancing towards the massive Spinosaurus Fossil sitting on the workbench. The largest part of the spinal fossil exceeded the actual length of the table and had to be placed in a spot that balanced both ends.

Metaphysical stars could be seen within Dr Kim's eyes.

"What a huge specimen! I could only imagine how large the creature was when it was still alive, and how dangerous it must've been in the wild! It was definitely an alpha predator, probably exceeding even a Tyrannosaurus and Gigantosaurus while on land..... How spectacular!".

Dr Kim caressed the spinal fossil as if gently caressing his lover. Chen Fei just stretched his shoulders out, gradually lessening the tension that was built up over carrying that monstrous package for nearly twenty minutes.

"You probably already know but I'm over 90% of the way from completely transforming my first spiritual wellspring. With any luck, I should be finished tonight, or even once I contract this big fella here..... Are you listening to me Baek Hyeon?".

Chen Fei showed a slightly disgusted expression when he saw Dr Kim rubbing his face against his Spinosaurus Fossil, his cheek pressed up against the fossilized collagen and calcium.

Taking off his clothes Chen Fei placed the scanners over his body once more, remembering where Dr Kim placed them last time. Sitting down on the same bench as the Spinosaurus Fossil in front of him, he glanced at Dr Kim how had gathered himself and was looking at a bunch of numbers up on the screen. Obviously recording Chen Fei's vitals and spiritual power count.

Dr Kim turned towards Chen Fei and nodded, causing the latter to let out a deep exhale and place his hands on the fossil in front of him.

Gathering and guiding the spiritual power within his body, Chen Fei pushed it towards the fossilzed Spinosaurus remains in front of him, attempting to form a connection with the ancient beast.

When Chen Fei's spiritual power came into contact with the Spinosaurus Fossil, an invisible tendril of spiritual essence latched itself into Chen Fei's spiritual power, slowly diluting itself and becoming spiritual power.

This is what made Fossil Knights different from Human Knights. Their innate spiritual power allowed them to assimilate and even converse with other external spiritual essences, forming a link between themselves and the external object.

In most cases, this external object was some sort of fossilized remains, but Chen Fei knew other things existed that could communicate with a Fossil Knights spiritual power.

"Link established! The exchange of spiritual power and spiritual essence has begun!", Chen Fei could hear Dr Kim's voice echo from the other side of the room.

Although he didn't respond, Dr Kim knew that Chen Fei had begun the second part of the process, summoning the remnant spiritual essence to form a pseudo-spiritual body, dependent of Chen Fei's spiritual power.

This pseudo-spiritual body took the form of whatever the fossil it looked like when it was still alive. When it was first summoned, it assumed the form of an infant, gradually growing in size, maturing like any other living thing until it became as large as it was when it was still alive.

When Chen Fei would completely summon the pseudo-spiritual body, it would be a Perennial Copper Fossil. Generally speaking the growth of a revived fossil reflected what rank it would have reached however some revived fossils were able to grow beyond what their age was, becoming a Silver or even a Golden Fossil after just a few years of growth.

This showed that the Fossil possessed a much stronger spiritual essence than originally thought. That, or the Fossil Knight that had contracted it was much more powerful than the fossil it had contracted with.

Chen Fei could feel the exchange of spiritual essence for his spiritual power, gradually forming the image of a blue and dark-yellow egg in the space in front of him. The fossilized remains of the Spinosaurus started becoming more and more translucent as the metaphysical egg slowly grew more and more stable in the physical world.

Every fossil would form and egg before it was contracted. This was the process of being summoned, and was fairly simple in comparison to the second half of the process, which was of course-.

"Chen Fei! Spiritual essence is increasing rapidly! The summoning of the Perennial Fossil is going at a much rapid pace! It's drawing on your spiritual power, using it as an anchor to summon itself to the physical world!".

Chen Fei took in a deep breath as the fossil in front of him shattered completely, becoming tiny little motes of blue and dark yellow light, finishing the final steps necessary to summon itself into this world.

*Crack~*.

A single crack, looking like a bolt of lightning, appeared on the surface of the dual-coloured egg. Chen Fei had steadied himself greatly in order to prepare for this moment, quickly prepared to sever the connection between himself and the summoned Spinosaurus.

By breaking the connection, the revived fossil wouldn't be able to sustain itself without an anchor to this world, and would gradually dissipate without anything to latch onto. Only by making a contract with Chen Fei of its own accord would be able to survive in this world.

*Crack~*.

A tiny piece of the blue and dark-yellow egg broke off the larger structure, revealing a tiny crimson coloured eye for Chen Fei to see.

Crimson coloured irises and slit shaped pupils stared into Chen Fei's normal shaped pupils and green coloured eyes. The latter smiled when he saw the creature beneath the surface of the egg, and broke the connection instantly, standing up in a position to look down on the creature in front of him.

The revived Spinosaurus obviously sensed the lack of any connection between itself and Chen Fei, breaking the eggshell with its tiny little claws in order to get towards Chen Fei and his spiritual power.

When it completely broke out of its shell, both Chen Fei and Kim Baek Heyon couldn't help but let out a sharp breath.

Despite being only a minute old, it was already the same size as a small child. The claws on its hands and feet weren't that developed, however they would definitely be able to give Chen Fei a nasty cut, unable to harm him fatally.

Chen Fei unconsciously smiled when he saw the deadly creature in front of him.

She's perfect, he thought.

Chen Fei and the small Spinosaurus stared at each other, both of them looking directly at each others eyes as they moved together in a circular motion, the revived fossil mimicking Chen Fei's every step.

Revived Fossils contained no previous memories from their past lives. However, the instincts of an alpha predator from over a 100 million years ago couldn't be dulled, and the Spinosaurus barred its sharp teeth towards Chen Fei.

The fifteen year old did the same, using his greater height to scare the small Spinosaurus, causing it to take a step back.

A few minutes passed like this before the Spinosaurus took a step towards Chen Fei, lowering its head in subservience, and extending a tendril of spiritual essence towards Chen Fei.

It was much weaker than the initial tendril, but of no lesser quality or density than before. Chen Fei showed a tiny smile before extending his hand forward, gently patting the baby Spinosaurus, simultaneously releasing his own tendril of spiritual power.

Instead of just latching onto each other, Chen Fei's larger, more purer tendril of spiritual essence coiled around the baby Spinosaurus, imprinting his unique spiritual thumbprint onto the creature, linking it to himself, and completing the contract.

After a few seconds Chen Fei opened his eyes and moved his hand away from the baby Spinosaurus. The waist-tall creature turned its snout-like head upwards to look at Chen Fei, before walking around him closely, rubbing his body into Chen Fei's leg, as if a child clinging to the leg of its parent.

Subconsciously, Chen Fei's smile grew larger and he couldn't help but extend his hand forward, letting the baby Spinosaurus rub its face into Chen Fei's hand, acting less and less like an alpha predator, and more and more like a domesticated animal.

The relationship between a Fossil Knight and a revived fossil was similar to the relationship between a parent and a child. Initially it was only formed due to the link between a contractor and a contractee, out of dependence for the fossils survival and unwillingness to die.

However, as time went passed the relationship strengthened. Despite still existing out of dependence, it transformed from an obligation to a type of duty. Most children would do anything for their parents, as was the same from a revived fossil to a Fossil Knight.

Chen Fei turned towards Dr Kim on the other side of the room, who had wide eyes and a dropped jaw. The Professor gathered himself after a few moments before showing a large smile and nodding at Chen Fei.

"Congradulations Mr Chen. On becoming a real Fossil Knight".
