Chapter 12 First Wellspring And....

"I'm ready".

Chen Fei sat silently on the floor within Dr Kim's laboratory, rapidly inhaling small amounts of oxygen as if trying to fill his entire being with some external power. The various scanners placed over his body indicated that his vital signs were normal and the refinement of spiritual essence within his first spiritual wellspring was gradually becoming more and more complete.

Dr Kim wasn't sure if Chen Fei could hear him, but he turned towards the fifteen year old and spoke.

"Spiritual essence refinement is over 99% complete! One final push and your spiritual wellspring will become fully developed!".

Chen Fei made no movement or indication that he heard or sensed Kim Baek Hyeon's words, but let out a massive exhale, releasing all the oxygen within him as carbon dioxide.

His single raindrops worth of spiritual power had grown to the size of a finger nail in the past few days, still taking the form of a drop of water. The blue coloured water surged throughout the spiritual wellspring within Chen Fei's heart, rotating faster and faster around the sliver of spiritual essence remaining.

This was what Kim Baek Hyeon was worried about. It was all well and good if Boundless could refine spiritual essence into spiritual power, but if it couldn't create a gateway from the external world to his internal body, it would all be for naught, and Chen Fei might die from spontaneous combustion.

The small Spinosaurus sitting directly beside Chen Fei could see the little beads of sweat appearing on his forehead, and could sense the constant movement of Chen Fei's spiritual power through their connection. Its tiny crimson eyes stared at the spot on Chen Fei's chest where his spiritual wellspring was located, a mixture of curiosity and worry in its eyes.

Chen Fei himself was currently focusing all his efforts on breaking through the barrier that separated him from real Knights. If he was unable to break through the first spiritual wellspring, it would deem him unsuitable for cultivation, and even if his contract with the Holy Fossil Consortium wasn't broken, his ability to gain jobs would be.

'How the f*ck did someone open their first spiritual wellspring in 8 goddamn hours!? It's taken me six days and I'm still having trouble!.... Just calm down Chen Fei. Take a deep breath and concentrate on creating the gateway'.

The gateway he was referring to was what all Knights referred to as a Spiritual Gateway. Once the spiritual essence in a spiritual wellspring was completely refined, it would form what many would call a Spiritual Gateway that connected his spiritual power to the spiritual essence of the natural world.

Using this external spiritual essence it was possible to refine spiritual power even further, increasing the quality, quantity and even density by many folds. Having many Spiritual Gateways was what gave some Knights an advantage over others, as they could fight harder and for much longer.

Other than that, Spiritual Gateways were what Fossil Knights used to store their revived fossils in. Since the creatures were pseudo-spiritual beings from the beginning, they could change from having a physical form to a metaphysical one.

In these Spiritual Gateways, there were nurtured through the constant absorption of spiritual essence from the external world, and refined said spiritual essence into spiritual power using the Fossil Knight to do so.

If Chen Fei didn't open this, the Spinosaurus wouldn't be able to go into its spiritual form. Meaning it would be stuck in the real world, having to grow and develop like any other normal creature would. Although it would be quicker to some degree.

'Come on.... the door is right in front of you Chen Fei..... All you have to do, is push the door open using your spiritual power. Just a push.... just a gentle-'.

Chen Fei's spiritual power hastily pushed itself forward, smashing through the final piece of unrefined spiritual essence, sending a wave of pain coursing throughout Chen Fei's body.

"Motherf*cker!".

Emanating from his heart spiritual wellspring, an extremely hot, burning sensation coursed throughout all of his body. The pain was akin to being doused in gasoline and haivng a cigarette thrown at you. From the top of his head to the bery tip of his toes Chen Fei experienced a pain that rivalled even the pain he felt when he gained the scar on the right side of his chest.

The fifteen year old started clenching his fist so hard that his nails gradually dug into his skin. Blood being drawn from the almost dozen or so wounds and he crawled up into a ball as his screams echoed throughout the laboratory.

"Sh*t! His heart rate and blood pressure are going through the roof! At this rate, he'll enter cardiac arrest and-.....".

Kim Baek Hyeon stopped speaking and just merely gazed at the sight in front of him. The various scanners he had placed on Chen Fei's body were by no means wrong, and were the most accurate form of biological scanning that a University Professor could buy.

They all indicated that Chen Fei was about to enter cardiac arrest however looking at Chen Fei and his Spinosaurus, he could tell that something wasn't right.

Said Spinosaurus was currently sitting on the ground without a care in the world, as if not noticing the screams and burning pain that Chen Fei was currently experiencing. The small creature yawned slightly, opening its snouted mouth, revealing two rows of razor sharp teeth.

"..... Just before it was showing worry for Chen Fei, and that was without him being caused pain..... But now, when he is in a state like this, it shows no sympathy or worry about him. This could only mean-".

Kim Baek Hyeon's eyes widened and his mouth dropped a little. Instantly he turned around and looked towards his computer screen, dividing the monitor into two sections, one showing Chen Fei's vitals, and the other an anatomical diagram of dozens of different mutated monsters and demonic beasts.

All the monsters and beasts were disected of course, however if one looked closely, hundreds of tiny little dots could be seen all over the creatures bodies, every single one of them amounting to the same number.

".... I was right.... Every single creature, regardless of whether they are human, monster or beast, all have exactly 720 spiritual wellsprings within them. After examining countless demonic beasts and mutated monsters, I found that they gradually opened their spiritual wellsprings after devouring creatures with high amounts of spiritual essence within them".

Dr Kim glanced back towards Chen Fei noting that his flesh started squirming underneath his skin, and several bone like protrusions seemed to try to force their way out of Chen Fei's body. The fifteen year olds skin was completely red by this stage, turning a bright crimson as if every blood vessel in his body had popped or something.

Dr Kim glanced back at his monitor.

"The vial I gave Chen Fei, was pure unrefined blood from several beasts that exceeded the Golden Knight tier. The sheer amount of spiritual essence and extremely potent life force within the blood would allow even a huge mutated monster to open up a spiritual wellspring. Using that as a catalyst to practice the Endless Cultivation Method, theoretically it should stop the constant rotations of spiritual essence and forcibly open a Spiritual Gateway.....".

"I hypothesized that the physical changes would occur after opening several spiritual wellsprings..... however, just after opening a single one Chen Fei has already started to transform.....".

Kim Baek Hyeon showed a conflicted expression on his face before resolutely turning towards the messy side of his laboratory, gathering a handful of different notes and diagrams before throwing them into a briefcase.

Dr Kim removed the scruffy looking beard he had on, and took off the white lab coat that would distinguish him within a crowd. Taking a second to delete all the files on his computer, Kim Baek Hyeon turned towards Chen Fei, still with a conflicted expression on his face.

"I'm not expecting to ask for your forgiveness Chen Fei, after all I've gifted you with the strongest Cultivation Method any of the Fossil Organizations have to offer".

The doctor removed his glasses and walked towards Chen Fei, placing a hand on the fifteen year olds scorching hot body with a small smile on his face.

The baby Spinosaurus turned its head towards Dr Kim, gazing at the interaction between him and his Knight. It tilted its head curiously, noting that there was no malevolent intent in Kim Baek Hyeon's gaze.

The scientist smiled before standing up and picking up his fully packed briefcase.

"You are my Adam, Chen Fei..... Now that I know that Endless can be cultivated using pure unrefined monster and beasts blood, all I need to do is figure out a way to stimulate the spiritual essence within mortals to become spiritual power..... Then I will welcome you into my Garden".

Kim Baek Hyeon ignored the screams of pain and the shouts of profanity that came from Chen Fei's mouth. If he could endure the pain and accept his gift, then Chen Fei would become a figure that could stand above all others, an alpha predator in every definition of the word.

Dr Kim smirked as he closed the massive metal doors behind him.

"If you want to change the world, then don't be afraid of getting your hands dirty".
