Chapter 49: You Save Everyone but Who Saves You?

There was no longer a person who waited for her at the gate of her house every morning before she went to school. There was no longer a friendly neighbor that visited their house. There was no longer a seat mate who looked uninterested in all the lectures but still aced the exam.

There was no silver hair anymore that would make anyone want to comb it with their fingers--there wasn't a pair of golden eyes anymore.

She waited everyday--she looked forward to the day that she can see him again. She repented that day- when she stopped running towards Light- because it might have changed the way things were if she just became brave enough to reach him-

But

Light was no longer with Joy anymore. He abandoned her- as much as she knew--

But she was wrong.

Light had been watching her from the sidelines, trying so hard not to get caught. He have the ability from above to make himself not visible to the other chosen since he was the original one and he used that everytime.

He still waited for her at their gate every morning. He still walked with her towards their school. He still sat beside her and watched her as she ate- and when missions came, he made sure to fix them before she could make her move.

He acted like a ghost even though he's not and he tried so hard not to run to her when she thought of him hard. He fought the urge to wipe away her tears because he was still uncertain about the future until Yvan updates him.

"Who are you? Are you the new artist? How bold of you to say hi to a superstar like me, barging in my dressing room like it was nothing." a young lady who was putting make up on, wearing a shining long sleeved dress told the man who wore a nice white suit and a hat that covered half his head.

"Pardon my intrusion" he said and removed his hat. The lady saw him through her peripheral vision and her huge mirror with many bulbs. She faced him.

"You are unfamiliar. Are you new here or are you one of my die-hard admirers? You're not bad for an admirer." The lady said.

"Asumi Yahiko, a superstar--the one who was called the voice that descended from the orient- I am Light Elkin."

Asumi stood up and went in front of Light. "What nonsense is that?"

"I am from above." Light said and looked at her direct into the eyes. The sight of the pair of golden eyes that were almost glowing shocked her because she was sure that it wasn't contact lenses. He looked different because he had silver hair and golden eyes that looked perfect--he looked perfect.

"You must be an artist. You act well but I'm not going to believe you. What do you take me for- and what are you saying that you came from above? Are you an angel?"

"If you say I am, then I am" that phrase led Light to remember someone who had asked him the same question. He remembered her so clearly that he almost saw her in front of him because of the eyes of Asumi-

"Why are you here?" Light said as he threw himself on her and hugged her. "I was lost without you."

"I'm right. You are really one of my fans. To think that I have a hot fan makes me feel accomplished. Say, do you want to die with me?"

Light flinched. He, for a moment thought that Joy was in front of him because Asumi had gray contact lenses on and because of the question that rattled him. He almost forgot that she was his mission--the superstar.

" You are irrational. " Light whispered. "If you die, lots of people who love you will be depressed--imagine idolizing a person, looking up to them but she decides to die anyway - do you think that they will be happy? Do you think giving up is really the option? Lots of people loves you. They see you as a ray of sunshine and hope-" the thought of Hope gave him a pang in the chest." The bottom line is.. You shouldn't do this to your fans. I know this is selfish of me because you have been suffering. You have been facing hardships but please... Please continue living so others can also live. Many people looks up to you and your songs had been giving hope to other people. You may not know that you might have saved someone from their despair. You just might never know. "

" This world is selfish. True enough that I give hope and happiness to other people but how about me? Of course all this is will not be understood by someone like you. A self-proclaimed angel. "

Light looked down because he understood that way more than anyone else in the world. It was true that he will save everyone--but in the end, he will be left alone. Forgotten by everyone.

" You save everyone, but who saves you?" he whispered but that made Asumi astound. Light looked at her again. "Asumi Yahiko, I understand you more than anyone--in this life, is there even a time that you felt genuinely happy? The time when your happiness was able to reach out to other people?"

Asumi was even more astound to hear those words from the stranger. She remembered how happy she was the moment she first stepped on the stage and performed her own song in front of many people--she was so happy when she first won an award and when she touched people through her songs. Performing and being a superstar overall is the greatest happiness she can never forget.

Light heard a dripping sound from the long sleeve she was wearing and the bloody table in front of the mirror caught his attention. Before he came, Asumi was slicing her own wrists and her hands were dripping blood but she seemed different to her own pain. There was a happiness and guilt that spread through her face like wildfire--she probably have forgotten that Light was in front of her - and her make-up was destroyed because of her sobbing--and one thing was clear--she was sobbing because she was happy that she found herself again.

The happiness of remembering the precious moments of her life was enough for her to live and hang on to her life.

She wanted to continue being the sunshine of the people who appreciated her songs. She wanted to motivate them to live with her. She wanted to live.

Asumi heard indistinct chatters from Light but she did not care. She was so happy at the moment and there wasn't anything that could make her sad again.

"Your name is Light and it's funny how much you've given Light to others when you don't know it yourself." Asumi said as a bright, blinding light blinded her. She closed her eyes and accepted the cold and comforting light that emerged from Light's necklace.

______

" Had a rough mission, Light? " a voice asked from out of nowhere. Light was walking across the dark streets in attempt to get home while his entire arm was dripping hot red blood.

"Every mission is rough" Light replied at him. "You really like to look cool from hiding in the shadows while keeping your silver hair illuminated. Come out Yvan. Tell me news".

"Still none. She still can't remember my face but he remembers someone she loves. Polaris hates my presence and has been trying to keep me away from her sister. Stellar really looks and sounds like Twinquel. I know I can't mistake her for someone else but it's still strange".

"It's been a month already. I'm getting tired and my body seems to be malfunctioning." Light said and held his chest. "My arms, legs and even my chest are full of cuts. Asumi was my 13th mission this month and sometimes I do 2 missions a day in attempt to clear out the missions for her. I don't want her to get hurt anymore."

" Your necklace is going black" Yvan said, looking at his necklace. "Your love is actually useless now because you can't change the fate yet but I am investigating Stellar now and I will update you as soon as possible. Are you sure you are not going back to her again?"

"There are so many times that I want to run to her and stay but I can't save her like that. I need to do all the missions myself because even if this necklace does become black, I will still face the same fate I was destined to have and I am sure that the moment she sees this necklace, she will save me again and I'm sure that her necklace would push me to save her and be erased from her memories. But you know what?" Light looked at him and smiled weakly." seeing her from the sidelines was enough for me even if it has become overly painful and unbearable. But if this suffering can compensate me time-"

" The time you are talking about is getting wasted. If you know that you would still suffer the same fate, why not go to her now and do what you can to live up a limited happy life. That's better than looking so helpless in the streets. " Yvan said and he turned his back at him. "I'm going to look for you tomorrow for updates. Bye for now."

Light did not bother to look at him. He looked at his necklace instead and saw the next mission--Ren's face was on the necklace but it was Akuji that he needed to save. The alter had fronted after such a long time but it was already midnight and he doesn't have the energy to even walk or carry on with life.
