23. 'Myths'

*Qin Shan POV

Song Meng is a vampire. What? My mind is going in circles and I can't help but remenisce about the past actions that he had done right in front of me that were, honestly, tell tale signs.

Thinking back, he never went into direct sunlight, he always tried to stay in the shadows, his skin is so so pale and almost translucent, he is classically gorgeous, he ran so fast to save HuanHuan and I from that creep at the bus stop. The list goes on and on. The way his eyes look like they can see right through me, how he is extremely intuitive. But the biggest thing is...why is he trusting me?

I am human. Fragile. Unable to protect myself against even other humans, yet, he wants to protect me. He seems to know a lot about my past.

The next morning---

I arrive earlier than usual to the first class and text Song Meng that I am waiting for him there. Within a minute, I see the tall figure walking towards me and can't help but smile. He smiles back and I'm pretty sure I start to implode on the inside.

We take our seats and now I think. If vampires are real, then, aren't all of the other mythical creatures? The creatures we learn about in this class certainly could exist if vampires made an appearance. I ask Song Meng.

"Are vampires the only mythical creatures that truly exist." He freezes for a second before shaking his head.

"No." They are not. My mind is blown. I start to think about the different cliques in this class, about how abnormal they really all are.

"Are there some in this class period." Song Meng looks down at me and his eyes show some amusement. He looks up and around the classroom and then back to me.

"Yes. There are." My eyes widen and I frantically search the room to anyone who might be something inhuman. My eyes eventually travel to Zhong Long's group, while they act like any other school bullies, I decide to take a risk and ask Song Meng.

"What is Zhong Long." Song Meng is silent for a second

"Do you really want to know?" I nod my head quickly. This class has gotten so interesting. At this point, I am no longer listening to the lecture.

"He's a shifter. That entire group is." He rolls his eyes. "Actually, most of the kids in this class are shifters of some sort. However, he and that group are wolf shifters. They don't get along with vampires too well." I nod. That explains the strength and the sort of group attitude towards me. It also makes me ponder, just how strong is Song Meng to intimidate an entire pack of shifters with a glance.

I look up at him.

"Why are they so scared of you?" He smiles

"It's a rivalry thing, but lets just say, one of my kind can take more than a few little puppies." His smile is snarky as he whispers to me. I blush and giggle.

"Are there any other types of creatures?" I wonder out loud and he nods.

"Our teacher... he's a unicorn." A WHAT??? My brain is screaming. That's going a little bit far. I look at the middle aged man droning on about the sightings of yeti's and how people can make misconceptions... I don't see anything about him that makes me think "unicorn." I look back at Song Meng to see that he has almost burst into laughter.

"I got you." My face burns and I turn away. "Hmph." His cold hands turn me back to him.

"I'm gullible, okay." My face feels hotter than an asteroid and Song Meng laughs again.

"I was kidding, but there are witches in this class." He nods over to a group of girls wearing pastels and short skirts. They are all beautiful in an inhuman way. I look at them for a second, then nod back at him.

"Yeah, I believe you." He smiles.

"Are you the only vampire at this school?" I ask cautiously. There could be more, I suppose, but truly, Song Meng isolates himself from others pretty continuously.

"Yes." My eyes get impossibly wider.

"Who is it?" I look around the room, searching for anybody with pallor to their skin and red lips.

"Wu He." My jaw drops. The playful, sociable boy who took Huan to the dance is...a vampire too! 'What the heck is going on'

"Really!?" I can't control my expression. Song Meng just nods.

"Anybody else?" He shakes his head.

"We are the only ones who can control ourselves well enough with humans and other creatures. That is the only reason why we can attend this university." He speaks seriously and I know that he is telling the truth so I nod.

"That's so cool." I am in complete awe.

"Thank you." He smiles at me and I just stare at him like an idiot. How did I not see these things before? It seems to obvious now that I know the truth.

"One more question." I almost whisper and he gives me a nod.

"Why did you save me that day from Zhong Long? The first day I started coming here." Song Meng looks at me

"I still don't know why I did that, honestly, but you just attract me like a magnet. I've just decided that it was to annoy him afterwards. I hate bullies like him." His brow furrows a bit but the only words I truly heard were

'attract me' they replay in my mind and I smile.

"Thank you anyway!" He snaps out of whatever thoughts he was having.

"In complete honesty, I should be thanking you." My face goes slack. I'm confused.

"Why?" I have to ask.

"Just knowing you is amazing." I blush again and have to look down. My heart is thumping. I know that I will have to accept him soon enough. I know I can trust him and I really think, that I might be starting to love him.
