22. 'Confessions'

*Song Meng POV

In the morning I decide that there is too much on my mind and take a run. Surprisingly enough, I see Qin Shan on jog as well. I want to go to her, but decide not to, as she is at the gazebo 'OUR' gazebo and her figure is just to perfect at ease. She is dressed modestly, in leggings and a loose tank top, but her scent and color still gets to me.

I watch her until I see her enter back into her dorms. Then I think about what she told me, what she confessed about her past to me yesterday. I need to compensate somehow.

During class, I decide that it's time to tell the truth to her. She seems focused on the lecture and looks several times at the place where Zhong Long and those other mongrels (ugh) sit. I pass her my note.

"Can you please meet me at our gazebo after third class? I need to tell you something." She stares at it for a second, looks at me confused, then writes her answer.

"Okay." I smile at her.

After third class, I get to the gazebo and she's already there.

"You beat me here." I say to get her attention, she turns and the soft light from the sun seem to come and surround her.

"I got out of art early because of my exemplary art work from the dance." She giggles. I have to sigh.

"Okay, what did you want to say?" She asks, pretty eager. I bite my tongue. 'Is this a good idea? Should I lie to her? Will she hate me forever after this?' She's staring and everything spills out.

"Qin Shan. Do you trust me?" She looks at me and with calmness and elegance she says.

"I really do." I sigh in relief and continue.

"I-I" I stutter a little bit "I'm not human." There is only a subtle change to her calm expression.

"Qin Shan, I'm something that could hurt you. I'm someone who is dangerous. I'm something that could end your..."

"I don't believe that you would ever hurt me." Her voice is quiet, trembling slightly but exudes a certain confidence that I didn't think was possible.

"Qin Shan. I am a vampire." The last word is almost a whisper. Her face, surprisingly, brightens.

"Really?!" She asks in awe. What is with her calmness? Shouldn't she be running away right now. Shouldn't she be trying to escape me.

"Yeah." I mutter and she laughs. "You didn't really think that I would judge you for being inhuman. I honestly had suspicions by myself."

"Was it that obvious?" I get nervous. What did she figure out. What does she know?

"Well, your super pale and your crazy fast. Your skin is like ice - however, I'm a little bit confused. I've heard your heartbeat. Do vampires have hearts too?" I got to admit, I'm a little bit shocked. Not only by her reaction, but by her curiosity.

"Vampires are similar to humans. We have hearts, we can go outside when it's sunny. The only risk there is that we sunburn easily." She nods, understanding.

"I get sunburned easily too, but I think it's just from being pale." She giggles.

"Can you fact check some things for me?" Her voice is eager and I automatically nod. I want to know what she had thought about vampires.

"Do you sleep in covered areas?" I can tell she means coffins.

"No." I sleep in the dorms and she knows it too.

"Do you have a reflection?" Her voice is mock suspicious.

"Yes" I roll my eyes. "We have pictures together Qin Shan." She blushes.

"Do you have to have permission to enter a space?" I consider this for a second.

"Not anymore." I say and she nods again.

"Aren't you going to ask about my diet?" I say and she looks up at me.

"If your comfortable with me asking." She says and I nod. I trust this girl even more now that her reaction to what I truly am is so mellow.

"I can either eat regular food or drink blood. Drinking blood gives me more energy but I don't need too much energy from just university life." She nods understanding.

"Thank you for trusting me." She whispers which surprises me.

"No. Thank you for trusting me." I tell her and she flinches a little bit but then nods again.

"Mmm." She says and then her eyes brighten.

"Are you ready to head back to Fourth class?" This girl continues to astonish me. I expect her to have a huge buttload of questions and she limits it down to less than five. She doesn't seem to start to try to treat me differently now that she knows what I really am. She trusts that I will keep her safe and is just gratified to know that I trust her as well.

As we walk towards the main square I start to think.

I have been told that confessions lead to hurt. Confessions can pain your heart, your soul, your body, your mind. They can lead to betrayal and confusion to both parties. They make you lose your confidence if the other party does not react in a certain way.

However, I am happy that I built up that confidence to talk and tell my secret to Qin Shan. While being a vampire only goes skin deep, there is all to much more that I will reveal to her...but over time.

Confessions can lead to happiness too, I guess.

Being lost in my thoughts, she notices my relaxed pace and looks up. She smiles at me and then any doubt that I had ever had in her dissapates into the air.

"It's amazing to me that I'm friends with a vampire." She whispers despite the main square being almost completely empty at this time.

"It amazes me that I found a human I could trust enough to tell I'm a vampire." She blushes again.

"I'm glad that I can trust you and tell you anything." She says decidingly and I can only just nod.

Trust is a thing that we have both had problems with. Something that has torn us away from others. Something that hiding just doesn't allow. Trust is something that takes time to build up.

I'm happy that I built my trust up with this girl. 'Thank you Qin Shan.'
