"This is amazing! Your stats are off the charts, Hyoyeon!"
Minho wasn't able to hold back his astonishment after looking at my status. We were in the awakening room of the Hunter Association with the whole class from school, the kids in their own groups around us. Hearing his shout, most of them turned their heads, some confused while others curious.
"That's Hyoyeon, right? What's going on?"
"Just go look, dude. Why ask me?"
"I mean, he's with Minho and Sunghee. They're the popular clique, while we… you know."
"I get you. Minho said Hyoyeon has stats that are off the charts. If that's what I think it is, it shouldn't be surprising, I guess."
"Yeah, you're right. Haah… my stats are just average. Comparison is such a bitch."
'They're flattering me even though they don't intend to,' I chuckled in my mind as I heard them chattering.
"Hmm… your stats and that trait's rank is indeed outrageous, but why don't I see a Unique Trait? You should have one if you're at this level," a voice came from behind me without any warning.
One of my virtues is that I've always been good at maintaining a poker face, so even though I was startled by someone appearing behind me so abruptly, I still turned around in a relatively calm manner.
'Oh, it's the one from HA'. He was the supervisor for our class's awakening… uh, event? What was it called again? Anyway, he was said to be a C-rank Hunter, so if he wanted to sneak up on civilians or newly awakened individuals, he could totally pull it off unsuspectingly. No surprise there.
I decided to ask him first, "By Unique Trait, do you mean those traits that are found only in one person and are special to them?"
The supervisor was a man in his thirties, sporting a buzz cut that seemed more appropriate for the military, with a smart black suit. His eyes were sharp; his chin, too. In fact everything about him seemed to convey a formless sharpness that hinted at his traits. I read in a book about hunters and awakeners before about how you would form an aura post-awakening that differed for each person. It's probably like how you have unique fingerprints and DNA.
"Yes, it's that Unique Trait I meant. Some people would awaken traits that no other person possessed. That's what makes them unique, and they're usually more powerful and… well, intricate. Only selected individuals have a chance at getting their own Unique Trait. You… your stats are one of the highest I've seen, which should have guaranteed you a Unique Trait, but…" the man brooded while stroking his chin, his eyes still fixed at my status screen.
Sunghee was listening to us at the side, but now she spoke up, "is it something like this?" She went to my side and showed her status to us. These status windows—or screens, whatever you call it—had a convenient function: you can toggle a Hide feature that's similar to the one used to conceal passwords. If it was on, the status window would only show weird symbols.

"Amazing…! You have two Unique Traits. That in itself is already extremely rare, yet to think that both of them are above-S…" the supervisor had his eyes open wide. What I caught on was the fact that he seemed more excited and shocked than when seeing my stats, even though I had an SSS for my Intellect stat. I mean, I was pretty shocked at Sunghee too. Those Unique Traits looked terrifyingly powerful. In front of those, even my stats seemed sadly weak.
"What about mine? Hehe, I have a Unique Trait, too!" This was Minho, of course. He was eagerly showing off his status to the supervisor, bumping into my side like a hyperactive dog. 'This guy… actually, wait. He has a Unique Trait, too. That would make me… what? Ugh. I-is this going where I think it will…? No way, right?'
