When Carlos received the digital map that his sister made using some sort of strange gadget he hadn't seen before, he was very skeptical. How did Carol know so much about the basement and the servants, to the point of knowing each servant's name and every room there is?
She's definitely messing with me, Carlos thought. She always does.
But since Carol said that Fei missed him very much and wanted to see him right away, Carlos couldn't help but hope that what his sister said was the truth. Besides, his sister is smart, so she probably can memorize this type of stuff easily.
He decided to go find Fei immediately. Carol even labeled the hallways that would be relatively emptier and explained how to hide when someone was in the hallways as well as different pathways that can lead to the head maid's room. There was also a tracking device equipped on the image*…
Carlos' room is on the third floor. Normally, he rode the elevator to go to the other floors. But since he didn't want to be discovered, Carol suggested he should take the stairs. As he walked down the steps, he began to get fatigued. Carlos not only had to exercise, he even had to hold a heavy device. His sister told him it contained something that was very important. She said that you can only open it once the device tracks that you are at least five feet away from the head maid's room. Carlos tried to open it out of curiosity, but he couldn't pry it open no matter how hard he tried.
He was so tired. But once he thought of seeing Fei, who he hadn't seen for an entire day even though he really wanted to play with her, Carlos's mood improved and was able to persevere through the four flights of steps.
As he walked through the hallways of the basement, he also examined the conditions of it. He found that the walls were plain, unlike the ones upstairs that had many paintings and other famous works of both classical and contemporary artists. The hallways were also surprisingly empty. He had imagined that there would be many people rushing about or guarding the different doors that he passed.
There were only a few servants that Carlos saw. They seemed so different from the servants that served him. These servants were laughing and talking with one another; but upstairs, all the servants in his presence would lower their head and quietly do whatever task given to them. Carlos wondered, is Fei like this with the other servants as well? Wait, but Fei is not a servant. She is my bodyguard. Why would she mingle with the servants? Why did she have to stay here, anyway? I'm going to get her to live in a room upstairs, near me. This way, I can play with her whenever I want. Besides, the basement seems kinda shabby. Too shabby for someone as great as Fei to live in.
After thinking it over, Carlos decided he would get Fei a really cool room, so cool that she'll finally show some expression. As he was thinking about the design of the very "cool" room that he was going to get Fei, he realized that he had almost reached his target room.
In order to surprise Fei, Carlos decided to be as quiet as he could. He even held his breath as he inched towards the entrance that did not seem too different from all the other doors. Except this one had a small keyhole and a face register beside the doorframe.
Carlos gulped. He forgot that his father had given him a corresponding key that would allow him to access the room when there was an emergency.
Just then, the strange device that he held under the digital map suddenly clicked and opened from the bottom, spilling its contents. Carlos clumsily prevented the two items from falling to the floor and caught them. In his frenzy, the digital map in his hands went falling to the floor.
Plop. Carlos flinched. He looked around to see if anyone noticed.
Whew. He sighed with relief. Damn it. That sister. Carlos grumbled in annoyance. Why didn't she tell me there were two items and which side of the device would open?
Carlos carefully looked at the items. A key! And a tablet? He hesitated, before switching on the screen.
As he watched the contents, his eyes blazed with fury, before his face suddenly turning deathly pale. He scrutinized the woman sitting on a couch, with dark hair that was pulled back into a bun, who seemed to be commanding. In front of her knelt a girl who seemed to kowtow with long ebony hair and gold/purple eyes. She seemed to be in pain. Suddenly, the girl collapsed onto the ground, her entire body twitching.
Unable to watch any longer, Carlos threw down the tablet and quickly inserted the key his sister gave him to open the door.
The doors opened automatically, startling the people inside. Everyone looked over apart from Fei, who could not afford to pay attention.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING, FELICIA ERIES*?" Carlos shouted in anger, echoing in the silent hallways.
Felicia snapped out of her daze, "Young master! Tha--"
"SO YOU STILL RECOGNIZE ME AS THE YOUNG MASTER? THEN W—"
"This insolent servant in front of me dared to disrespect your ill--" Felicia explained her intentions in a hurry, hoping the young master would not misunderstand.
"YOU are the one that is disrespecting me. And my family. Who do you think you are, to not only torture my bodyguard but to also interrupt me, your master?" Carlos' voice had turned cold, his eyes filled with undisguised disgust.
At this moment, he did not seem at all like an eight-year-old.
